Work Text:
When Barry wakes up, he sighs at the sight of his old little town house again. It had been no more than a couple of months since he and Hal had fled from that town, with Martin's help and blessing.
But from that point on, Barry had almost completely disappeared. She left work and returned home to be with Hal.
His co-workers always insisted that he stay a little longer or that he accompany them to a meeting; but Barry always refused knowing that he should return home early.
He never gave any more explanations on the subject, because he knew he would have to talk about Hal and he still tried to find a coherent story to explain how he had come into his life.
But Barry knows that he will have to rush that process, his pregnancy may be just in its beginnings; but eventually it will be noticed and he prefers to give the explanation than let Hal go crazy and end up committing some foolish thing.
He sighs heavily when he turns around and notices the empty bed. His eyebrows wrinkle in confusion and he does not hesitate to stand up as he calls him and begins to look for him in every corner of his home without success.
His chest tightens and his mind begins to turn into chaos.
Did Hal leave?
Did he abandon it like the rest of the alphas?
No, he denies himself as he takes a breath and sits in the living room trying to calm down.
He had probably only gone out to get some fresh air or relax a little, Barry had noticed him especially tense since the day he had observed how Charles had approached him again one day after work.
He seemed nervous to see him, but at the same time anxious to meet since his last vacation.
Charles approaches him, trying to hug and touch him; but Barry backs away to reject him.
The alpha seemed to get discouraged before he started bombarding him with a million different questions.
Barry ignored most of them until he asked about John, asked if he'd seen him since the night he eloped with them.
Barry pretended not to know anything and listened to everything John shared with him just by having his attention.
He took mental notes especially before going home and talking it over with Hal.
The alpha was not happy with the idea of their most recent encounter, calling Charles as a danger similar to John.
Barry didn't refute because he knew his alpha was right, but he still began to feel worried when he saw how upset and aloof the alpha was from him.Hal was not pedantic or rude to him, he kept snuggling up at night to sleep next to him, they had breakfast and dinner together while talking about something.
Everything seemed normal, but today the bomb seemed to have exploded and Barry feared what might happen or what had already happened.
Trembling he decides to get back on his feet and takes his phone, he does not try to call Hal again; but calls his father-in-law in his place.
"Mr. Jordan," he murmurs terrified, "Hal is not home... Has he communicated with you?"
"Barry, son, calm down," he asks kindly. “Hal is here with me, I had a small accident at my house and I called him in an emergency, that's why he doesn't warn you, but there's nothing to worry about son.”
"Can I talk to him?"
"Sure," he says calmly. Let me call him, son.
Barry is grateful with the anxiety diminishing in his body, but it ends up dissipating when he hears Hal's voice on the phone.
"Are you okay?" he asks.
"Did something happen to you, Bar?"
"No, I just didn't see you when I woke up and I thought maybe you... You had me…”
"I'd never do that, honey... I just, well, had to leave for an emergency.”
Barry affirms, but his doubt grows when he hears the mysterious, cutting tone Hal uses to refer to his emergence.
Barry doesn't want to think badly of his husband, or doubt him, but curiosity sinks into his soul.
"But don't worry... I'll be there for dinner together.”
Barry sighs and nods, feeling calmer.
For the first time, he lets his body relax and exhales before standing up again, now with the intention of going to buy some food to prepare dinner for the evening.

When night falls and the dishes begin to be served, as Hal mentions, he appears through the front door with a beaming smile, carrying a strange suitcase in one hand, while in the other he holds a flower ornament.
Barry doesn't hesitate to greet his partner, leaving a chaste kiss on his lips before looking at him curiously.
"Is your dad okay?" Hal states simply before extending the bouquet of flowers that Barry receives with a pleasant smile.
"It just fell in the house, but we went to the doctor and he said it was nothing to worry about."I'm so glad to hear that you're okay. “
There are no words any longer, so when Hal walks away with the intention of leaving the suitcase in the laundry room, Barry stops him.
"What do you have in your suitcase?"
"Nothing important," he admits with a shrug. “I only brought some dirty clothes that I had with my dad, I plan to wash them later.”
"Do you want me to help you?" It seems that for a few moments Hal tenses up, but then he only denies it with a light and charismatic smile that almost convinces Barry.
"Darling, don't worry about this... You must take care of yourself for our puppy... You don't have to try too hard, I'll take care of the rest.”
Barry sighs without being able to contain the love in every gesture, watches as his alpha leaves his suitcase on the ground for a moment and walks towards him gently. He removes the flower ornament from his hand and wraps it in a hug.
"You never have to worry about anything, Barry," he murmurs. “Anything that worries you or steals your sleep I'll take care of it, I've already told you... I don't want to be a burden to you, I want to be your company and your guardian, let me take care of my own affairs, baby.”
Barry sighs and nods.
He relaxes when the smell of Hal envelops him and again chooses to blindly believe in him.
It shouldn't. It's risky to be with an Alpha as volatile and impulsive as Hal, but his partner would never hurt him, not him.
So Barry doesn't hesitate in Hal, actively ignoring all red flags.
Ignore the traces of blood on Hal's boots.
"Do you want to dine now?" The brown-haired man smiles, kissing hia hair and nods.
"I'd love nothing more than to have dinner with my Omega and my puppy."
