Work Text:
Nine times out of ten they could all agree that a lazy morning in was the best way to spend their few shared days off. Today, unfortunately, was not one of those days. Hydra had woken up first, energy already buzzing through his circuit’s as he blinked at the ceiling. Half squished under Pearl and being bear-hugged from behind by Rusty was always a great way to wake up. However he needed to get up and move around or else he was going to scream. Carefully squirming his way out of the cuddle pile and gently tucking the other two back in with a quick kiss. He could let them sleep a little bit more. Quietly he pads into the kitchen, setting up the coffee maker and grabbing an energy drink to chug while he paces around the small space. Usually Porter wouldn’t let him cook anything but this was Rusty’s shed, and he could focus on one simple thing right? How hard could it be to make breakfast for a couple people?
Was the kitchen on fire? No, not entirely. Was the fire alarm chirping merrily at him? Yes. Was Rusty leaning on the doorway and laughing his ass off at Hydras misfortune? Also yes. He glared at the steamer as he tossed the pan of blackened bacon into the sink. No anger in his face as he turned the smoke alarm off. Pearl poked her head around the door and Rusty and gave him a quizzical look.
“What’s going on?”
Rusty simply wheezed in response. Hydra wouldn’t look at her as he stared at the floor.
“I was trying to make breakfast for you guys. And I got a little distracted…”
He could feel tears pricking at his eyes as Pearl tried her best not to laugh at him. Gently pushing the steamer to the side and crossing the room to the cryotanker.
“That’s very sweet Hydra,“
He cringed as she took his icy hands in her own.
“But I thought we talked about cooking without having someone with you?”
He huffed, annoyed.
“I’m not a child. I don’t need someone to watch me at every moment.”
Rusty finally composed himself enough to come up behind Pearl and laid his hands on top of both of theirs.
“We know you’re not Hyd, but my poor pans can only take so much abuse.”
He couldn’t help but snort as Rusty leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek. Pearl whined until she got one on the top of her head before pulling Hydra to the table.
“Let us take care of it, love.”
Hydra sat quietly at the table and watched as the two worked. Rusty softly singing as he worked. Pearl humming along and dancing in place as she watched (much more dutifully than Hydra had) her pan of food. He purred happily as both coach and engine placed a kiss on his cheeks as they brought plates to the table. And he had to admit, it was much nicer being awake with them.
