Work Text:
The sun goes down on Hatchet town, and the streets are quiet. It’s the middle of spring, and kids are busy asleep or sneaking out or studying. Hailey wasn’t one of those kids that stuck to the cliche- but she instead was the artsy kid that stayed up making arts and crafts and painting for no reason.
One day she was up especially late, and she heard the front door open. Zoey was home late, as usual. Hailey checked the clock above her dresser, it was 1:45am.
She left her paint smothered apron on the stool she was just sitting on, her palette on a slightly higher stool next to her and her canvas in front of her only window in her bedroom. She got up to go take care of Zoey, not that she’d remember the next morning, but might as well not wake up to another broken mug.
“Zoey?” Hailey called out.
She was wearing her already paint stained black sweats and a white tank top that was usually protected by her apron. She walked into the living room to see Zoey lying on the couch, her tiny dress, off, leaving her in her nice undergarments. Hailey assumed she’d be taken home by someone, but that clearly didn’t happen.
“Augh, diddjj you made dinnor.?” She slurred. She looked over the back of the sofa, finding Hailey leaning on the back of it. Zoey could hardly see if she was close or far.
“Yeah, I’ll heat it up, go put on some clothes.” Hailey walked into the kitchen just a few feet away, thanks to their tiny apartment.
“Mmm.. Something I wish a girl DIDN’t say to me tuuh-nieeght.” She whined. Zoey wasn’t one to tell Hailey anything about her personal life, rather than just tell her to be in it so she didn’t have to. This was new.
“What?” She asked from the counter, she had a Tupperware container from the fridge filled with chili.
“The dumb bar.. guy- was taaking my guhril! Eh-“ Zoey hiccuped.
“And she wass suuupooor prettyy… Not like uhh… erhh…” She zoned out. Her eyes lids falling. Hailey felt weird. Not like who? And Zoey liked girls too? Where did that come from? Well- Hailey knew how sexuality worked, she just hadn’t seen Zoey interested in any girl before…
She wasn’t sure why she was so stuck on this. She transferred the chili to a microwavable bowl. Zoey was drunk, she most definitely wouldn’t remember or care. Hailey let it run for almost a minute.
“Like..?” Hailey questioned. Not even sure why. She just felt like wanting the answer… But Zoey was so clearly out of it. Assuming she’s already thrown up on her way home, she looked about ready for bed.
“Is that chili?” She popped up, her eyes attempting to open. Her arm flew over the side of the couch, trying to lift herself before going back to not having the energy to move again.
“Yeah, do you want some? Or.. do you wanna sleep- because you look uhm… like shit, Zo.” Hailey admitted. It was times like these she knew she could got away with pure honesty without any consequences or unexpected snap backs. She took it out the microwave before it beeped.
“Muhh.. miissoo…” Zoey’s head had officially gone somewhere else. So Hailey decided she’d eat the soup considering she forgot about her own dinner a long time ago. Then help Zoey into bed.
“I feel euckyyy… Haaiiillss!” She whined, Zoey practically tried taking off her clothes which were already off, so she attempted with her bra.
“Okay, okay! Hold on!” Hailey set the bowl down and walked quickly into Zoey’s line of sight. Before she could get completely nude in front of her roommate, she attempted a grin.
“Aww… Haiilllsss to the resuh-cueee…” She clearly started to drift off again. He eyes shutting, and her body going limp.
“Nope- not yet! Uh- Zoey! Talk to me- tell me about uhm the bar hottie.” Not that she cared! Just had to keep her awake if she was gonna help her to bed..
“Awww…! I didn’t geeet herr..” Zoey sobbed, her mascara not even messed yet. Hailey started to carry her over into her room, clearly not paying attention to the story.
“Mhm! And?” Zoey threw her arm around Hailey. Letting her lead her into her bedroom. She then felt a sudden cold towel on her legs.
“Ahh! Cold! Cold!” Zoey whimpered. She flinched at first, but to be honest it felt nice against her warm skin.
“Shh, talk.” Hailey said as she ran a wet towelette over Zoey’s perfect calves, thighs, ass, waist..
“Her hair was sooo soft… I felt it in the baatthhroom…” Zoey greived her the way she spoke, sitting on the edge of her bed.
Hailey ran it over her stomach, under her chest…
“That tickles!” Zoey laid back, spreading her arms.
“Lemme!”
Zoey reached down for the towel to clean herself off, but Hailey had dodged her hand, and Zoey felt Hailey’s hair.
“Ooohh… Not as soft as yours… You’ree- euh.. too soft, so sssoff…” Zoey clearly drifted again.
“Zoey!” Her eyes snapped open, Hailey was looking down at her from above. She couldn’t help it when they started to get close again.
“Zoey! Stop! Who was the girl?!” Hailey exclaimed, the towel thrown under Zoey’s arm, she clearly cared. She was… jealous. Yeah, she was jealous! What other woman was getting Zoey’s attention and not her?! Hailey was the only woman Zoey would let worship- er -touch like this!
“Whaaat…?” Hailey paused.
“Iss.. are you- jealousss?!? ” Zoey whispered the last word like it was something she wasn’t used to saying. A word she was trying out for the first time, and for a moment, Hailey considered if Zoey had just read her mind.
“Don’t be…” Hailey looked around the bedroom. Avoiding Zoey.
“Crazy.”
Hailey paused every action. She backed away from Zoey.
It’d make sense. She was jealous. Every time Zoey went out, Hailey seemed to make more mistakes in her cooking. Whenever Zoey walked into her bathroom, mid-shower, Hailey couldn’t help but feel like she was in a horror movie… her heart beating intensely faster. Every time she thought of Zoey, she was reminded of everything she loved; coffee, tea, acting, performing, their first show, their first time watching a show together, their first lead roles… Hailey sorta, kinda… likes Zoey.
She looked down and realized Zoey was asleep. She didn’t bother cleaning the rest of her, she can do it herself when she wakes up.
Hailey left the bottle of Advil and a glass of water on her nightstand for the morning, and did some light cleaning in her room. Tossing her party clothes in the laundry bin, she shut the lights off. The chili left on the counter for the fruit flies to die in.
Hailey decided to confront her feelings later, she didn’t have the time. Right now, she needed sleep. Her head has been filled to the brim of Zoey for who knows how long? She just needed to rest her head from doing too much of thinking for both her and Zoey.
