She knew she was going to die. The wound was too large and she was losing too much blood. She hadn't even seen the knife coming. She pressed her hand against her side, trying to staunch the blood flow. With her other hand, the woman weakly pulled her phone from her pocket and dialed a number. Her sister picked up after the second ring. She sounded excited as she said hello. The woman asked her why she was so excited and proceeded to regret asking when her sister squealed. Her older sister's boyfriend of eight years had proposed to her a few hours ago. "That's wonderful!" The woman winced as her side burned and missed her sister's question. "I'm sorry, what was that?"
"I asked if you would be my maid of honor! Don't worry, the dresses won't be pink."
"I would love to!" The woman smiled sadly. "Oh, and I won't be able to make it to our meeting tomorrow. Something came up."
"What? Autumn's making cupcakes for tomorrow. You love those!"
"I know, but this is something I can't get out of." She could feel herself getting weaker by the minute. The phone wobbled in her hand. "I have to go now. I love you, Brookie, remember that."
"I love you too, Nikki. Goodbye, sis."
"Goodbye." She heard her sister hang up and the phone slowly fell from her hand. She was getting colder and could hardly find the strength to keep her eyes open. She looked to the side and saw how close to the sidewalk she was. As she exhaled, her last breath, she hoped that someone would find her body soon.
