Chapter Text
Ratio was taking a walk once, enjoying the cold breeze and the fresh smell of morning dew, when he heard a faint chirp by the bushes. He walked to the source of sound, pushing some leaves away, and found a bird with a strange coloring lying on the pebbled ground.
The bird had dominant green coloring, with a white belly, and golden yellow at the top of its head. It also had interesting yellow geometric patterns by its tail along with some red splotches all over the bird's body. The right side of the bird was soaked in dark crimson, its wing angled at a weird position.
‘An injured bird,’ Ratio thought, wondering if taking the bird and administering treatment to it would make a difference. On any other day, he’d let the bird die. Letting nature take its course. Freeing the creature from this world’s suffering.
‘Survival of the fittest,’ as they say. There's a reason this bird fell victim to something. There's a reason for it to be in its current state. There's a reason for it to be dying.
Despite his inner monologue, Ratio carefully took a spare disposable glove from his pocket. Slipping it on his left hand, he picked the bird up. Its left side lay by his palm.
‘For research,’ his mind supplies. He does not remember this coloring and pattern, and he had the bird watching book memorized a few years ago when it became a hobby of his. It is impossible for him to overlook a species with a very unique coloring.
Ratio’s heart thrummed in anticipation. For new knowledge, for new discoveries.
Whatever this bird might bring to his life, he will welcome it. He feels something unexplainable, and it is not an unwelcome one.
