Summary
One of Tris’ greatest fears is not being in control. It presents itself as crushing waves, hungry crows or a flaming stake. But what if initiation morphed her into someone she can’t recognize anymore? What if fear and anger brought her on the verge of insanity?
When Tris arrives at Dauntless, she soon realizes the ideals she strived for are long gone, and the reality of her new faction is far from how she imagined it. Feeling suffocated between what she grew up believing and what initiation is forcing her to become, conforming isn’t impossible, yet it’s going to change her deeply, not necessarily for the better. Rage and vengeance are prevailing in her, and she finds herself embodying the very archetype of Dauntless that she swore to eradicate. Perhaps the answer lies in what the initiation is trying to strip away from her; perhaps relying on others isn’t a sign of weakness, rather what is needed to find her way back to herself.
