Work Text:
The Sin of Empathy
Of parables and miracles, the preachers do proclaim,
The will of God they claim to know and from their pulpits reign.
A question then, for those who claim their LORD resides within,
Where hath gone the spirit’s sway, compassion for your kin?
You seek within your holy book the worst that it contains,
Love is cut and kindness sheered ‘til only hate remains.
They persecute and segregate and, in their hate, rejoice,
for those who do not fit the whole, the ones without a voice.
And reach to build a world so vile under a devil’s grin,
Where sympathy is blasphemy and empathy’s a sin.
