Chapter Text

It is all lies, slander, not a word of it is true.
But Phee don’t wanna to spend no another night in jail so she just keeps running.

The past few times spendin’ hours behind the county bars were all misunderstandings.
Because her brothers Joe, Sam and Fish tend to be troublemakers, and if they keep doing stuff wrong, so must she.
‘The bad apple runs in the family’ someone once said.
But now it don’t even have to do with her brothers.
It’s her stupid darn ex boyfriend who can’t accept that Phee has moved on, so he tackles false lies on her all the darn time.
And this stupid sheriff prefers making arrests above findin’ the truth and Phee, well she’s sick of it.

So she keeps runnin’ until she sees the sign above the wooden building, the one where she knows she can hide.
The bar where the owner owes her brother, the bar where she suspects the owner has a weak spot for her.
The moment she had spotted the bartender she knew there was somethin’.
But one of her damn brothers is always near her when she’s there, so she can’t make a move on him.
And she’s pretty sure that Mr. Logan is a bit shy, that he ain’t going to be making the first move on someone that is 7 years his minor.

So she runs, she sprints until she’s inside the Duck Tape where she runs against a solid and hard structure -her favourite drink making guy- Clyde.
Her balance starts wiggling but he’s got his hands on her steadying her.
A contrast between the warmth on her left side from his big hand, to the coldness of the prosthetic on the other.

“What brings you here little Ophelia? Causing trouble again?” he jokes.
When she don’t laugh back, he looks at her all serious.
“What has one of your brothers done again this time?”
Phee feels slightly offended, okay her brothers are the reason for mayhem 99% of the time in this old town, but it wasn’t any one of them today. She huffs out an angry breath.
“They ain’t done nothing wrong, Clyde.”

Before he can say anything one of the regulars in the bar yells.
“Is it that ex of yours again and that sheriff with a stick up his ass?”

Phee nods, quickly looking at the patron and then back at Clyde.
“I haven’t done anything wrong, but he’s looking for me, I can’t take another night in county jail, Clyde.”

He gives her a short smile and the hands that were still holding her arms are now moving up and down in a comforting way.
“You’re gonna be alright Phee, you’re safe her–”
His talking is interrupted by the sound of a car slamming his breaks shut on the little cobble stones outside.
Blue lights are shining through the windows of the bar.
“Damn it, I knew he was gonna find me. Why did I go here?” Phee is stressed out, looking around, but there isn’t a way out.
The sheriff will catch her if she goes through the back door.

“HIDE Phee, we ain’t gonna betray you for that butt sucker,” a patron yells.
She’s scanning the room with big eyes as she can spot the sheriff exiting his car.
“Under the bar Phee,” Clyde says as he softly drags her along, “I’ll cover for you.”

Clyde’s gonna cover for her?
She is absolutely screwed

“You’re a terrible liar Clyde!”
“I’m not,” he says as his whole body goes rigid.

Phee is fucked, ‘cause that damn Clyde cannot relax when telling a lie.
Nonetheless she lets herself get pulled by Clyde behind the bar.
She’s ducking in between his legs right when the door opens and the most aggravating voice in the universe starts talking.
