Chapter Text
Link's eyes snapped open as he felt a rush of wind down his neck. As his eyes adjusted to the light he quickly remembered where he was, he was in the sky, and he was falling quickly! Link took in everything, the floating islands around him, the clouds, the bright sun that hurt his eyes, and someone right below him, falling. Wait, that was...
Zelda!
Everything blurred past as Link continued to fall, but he didn't let his eyes off of the princess. He had to reach her. Quickly, Link pivoted his body, beginning to nosedive toward the princess. Link felt the air push against his face, stinging his eyes, but he refused to let up. He had to reach her. Link felt his clothes and skin get dampened as he flew through a cloud, but he hardly noticed. He had to reach her. Link thought about everything that had lead to this moment, Ganondorf's awakening in that dungeon, him and Zelda being separated by time itself, the countless battles Link had to fight, the people he had to help, Purah, Tulin, Sidon, Yunobo, Riju, everyone he had met across his journeys.
He remembered waking up in the Shrine of Resurrection with no idea who he was. He remembered hearing her voice. He remembered giving everything he could to protect her time and time again no matter where or when the two of them were. He remembered seeing everything she went through in the time she spent in the past. He remembered seeing her sail through the skies and feeling a deep pain in his heart.
He had to reach her.
Link dove further and further, getting closer and closer to his princess, to Zelda. He reached out for her hand, desperately trying to grasp it. He fought against the wind and he cleared his mind of everything other than one thought. He had to reach her. He felt every muscle in his body ache, finally being assaulted with all of the stress of his journey, but he had to reach her. He felt his hand just barely graze her fingers as he continued to reach. He would not lose her again. Link put all of his energy into one final desperate grab for his princess. He had to reach her.
Clap!
Link grasped the princess' arm and refused to let go. Even though the impact of him reaching her had caused a feeling of rough scales on her skin he held firm. He had reached her!
Now there was just the problem of landing. Link finally looked past Zelda towards the ground below them, and he was able to spot a lake close to where they where falling.
I must keep her safe
Link wrapped his arms around Zelda and held her close while he directed them towards the lake. As the water below them approached, Link closed his eyes, and braced for impact, feeling the princess' body against his and feeling a wave of relief wash over him as he took the short time before the impact to truly process what was happening. He had done it, he'd found his princess. Link felt her breathe in and out and smiled. He felt his hand against her back and their arms pressing together, bumping against what felt like a crystal on her back
Wait, what?
Link's eyes shot open as he tried to see if the princess was okay.
And that's when he saw it.
A blue crystal, surrounded by yellow and white scales, emerging from her back
WHAT-
Splash!
