Taming the Beast

Summary:

For months, the lone wolf Shadow Milk has stalked the herd and the stubborn ram who guards them. Time and again, the wolf's advances are thwarted by Pure Vanilla's sharp senses. But when a sudden snowstorm strikes, leaving the predator weakened, fate has other plans for the beast. Pure Vanilla takes in the wolf to help treat him until he is healthy once more.

Is the ram a naïve fool for showing mercy to a monster? Or has the cunning wolf finally stepped into a trap he never saw coming, one where he's not the hunter, but the hunted?

Chapter Text

Shadow Milk had been trailing this herd for months now, haunting the edges of their territory like a ghost in the underbrush. He moved with the wind, always out of sight, patiently watching for a weak link to stumble, to stray too far from the protection of the group. It should’ve been simple…pick off one of the slower ones, feast for weeks, and then vanish onto greener pastures.

That’s how it should have gone.

If it weren’t for him.

The very thought of that oversized, obnoxiously vigilant sack of fleece made Shadow Milk’s hackles bristle. The absolute NERVE of that ram. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t dealt with flock guardians before. Plenty had tried to play the hero, and some had even fallen for it. He’d bested more than a few in the past easily, one snap from his jaws and their necks crunched in his maw.

But this one... this one was different.

There was something off about him. No matter how careful the wolf was, no matter how quietly he slinked through the undergrowth, the ram always seemed to know. His eyes would search the treeline with uncanny precision, locking onto the dark just where Shadow Milk lingered, as if drawn to those mismatched, faintly glowing eyes.

And then there were the other things.

Nights when the hunt had failed and hunger gnawed at his belly, he’d stumbled upon perfectly ripe berries always right where he was about to give up. Once or twice, he could’ve sworn he saw a flick of a blond tail darting into the thicket just before he arrived. And during the colder months, when frost bit through even the thickest fur, there had been scarves, soft woolen scarves, folded with care and left just outside his den.

The audacity.

As if he were some helpless pup in need of babysitting.

He didn’t need him. He didn’t need anyone! He was a lone wolf, he’d always been. He’d survived these woods through fang and grit, not misplaced sympathy. Especially not from the likes of him. But…

This winter was harsher than any in recent memory. A heavy blizzard had swept across Crispia, blanketing the land in thick, suffocating sheets of snow that blinded anything caught in its wrath. In the frost queens clutches were two things: a herd of sheep... and one lone wolf lurking at the treeline.

Shadow Milk had been tailing them for days, biding his time, waiting for the ram to falter, to slip up just once. But in his obsession, he hadn’t noticed how bitter the cold had become.

Now, crouched beneath the skeletal limbs of a frostbitten tree, Shadow Milk shivered violently. His fingers were numb, curled tightly into the folds of his fur, and his teeth clattered uncontrollably as he watched from the shadows. Across the snow-covered field, the ram calm, composed as ever ushered his flock into the warmth of a sturdy barn, closing the door behind them with practiced ease.

Then, without a second glance toward the forest, the ram turned and began making his way toward the house, wool dusted with snow.

An unprotected heard in a barn this was his chance yet..

Shadow Milk didn’t move.

Couldn’t move.

He watched through the blur of frozen lashes, vision tunneling in and out as the ram drew closer to the house, each step crunching softly over the snow. The warmth that awaited behind that door felt like a world away, a world not meant for the likes of him.

And then, all at once, everything went white.

His legs gave out beneath him, the last flicker of strength snuffed out by exhaustion and cold. He collapsed, the snow offering no resistance as he slid over the edge of the ridge. His body tumbled down the slope, flailing helplessly through the powder, branches scraping past as gravity pulled him further into the white abyss.

Somewhere between the roar of wind and the pounding of his heart, he thought…no….he swore he heard a voice.

Faint, panicked.

Calling his name.

Then everything went silent.

When his vision hazily returned, everything was muted and blurred, like the world had been dunked in slush and silence. He felt himself being dragged across the icy, half-frozen field. The ground beneath him was slick and cold, soaking through his fur making it sooping wet, but he was too far gone to shiver. Above, the sky still wept white, snow drifting endlessly downward like winters tears

And then through the haze he saw it.

A shimmer of gold.

Locks of hair catching the faintest light, glinting like something out of a dream… and horns. He knew those horns.

Him.

That damn ram.

His lashes fluttered as his gaze sharpend but his mind was to foggy to hold on to thoughts, too weary to fight. A slow blink, a breath and then he slipped away again, letting the cold carry him forcibly back into sleep.

******************************************************************************

When Shadow Milk awoke, the first thing he felt was warmth.

A thick blanket was draped over him, heavy and soft, cocooning his body. He lay stretched across a couch, the crackle of a roaring fire filling the room with a soothing hum. Just a few feet away, a large cauldron simmered over a hearth, the rich scent of vegetable soup hanging in the air.

His stomach gave a small, traitorous growl.

“I hope there’s meat in it,” he thought groggily, eyes drifting toward the figure standing by the fire.

And there he was.

Him.

That damned ram.

The one who had been a thorn in his side for months, now calmly stirring soup like this was just another winter evening. As if he hadn’t invited a beast into his home.

Scowling, Shadow Milk muttered, “Why the hell did you bring me in here… are you stupid or something?”

Without turning, the ram replied smoothly, “Quite the contrary, dear. I was saving your life. You were halfway to becoming a popsicle, my feisty little cake hound, you should really thank some one first for helping you, its good manners.”

“HELP MY—AGH—”

The wolf tried to leap to his feet, rage bubbling in his throat but the moment he moved, the room spun. His vision tilted, and a sharp pulse hit his skull like a drumbeat. He collapsed with a grunt, one hand flying to clutch his forehead.

That’s when the ram finally turned to him. Long flowing locks moving like waves of grain in the wind. His eyes softened with concern as he crossed the room in a swift, graceful stride, hooves tapping gently against the wooden floor. Without hesitation, he leaned over, his hand pressing Shadow Milk down by the shoulder as his other lifted to brush against his brow.

“You’re burning up,” he murmured. “This won’t do…you must have been in the cold too long… You’ve got a fever. You’ll need to rest for a day or two.”

“LIKE HELL I WILL—!”

“Shhhh.” A large, warm finger pressed gently against his lips, silencing him with startling ease.

Shadow Milk froze. It felt like his skin was burning up were the ram pressed, his nose catching a tiny wif of vanilla.

The ram was closer than he’d expected…a lot closer. He hadn’t realized how big he was. Up close, he practically loomed over him, broad shoulders casting a shadow from the fire place that wrapped around the wolf like a second blanket.

Shadow Milk swallowed hard, a faint deep and blue blush creeped across his cheeks. He tried to turn his face away, but that finger still lingered on his lips, firm, gentle, demanding his attention.

He squirmed beneath the weight of it, cheeks burning, ears twitching, And then, like always, he snapped his pride back into place, throwing on the mask of a scowl, baring his teeth behind flustered defiance.

Still scowling.

Still pretending.

Even if his heart was thudding far too loudly to ignore. Aching for more of this maddening tendernce.

“Now, now… none of that,” the ram crooned, voice thick with amusement. “Aren’t you hungry, dear~?”

“NO.” Shadow Milk snapped, a little too fast.

Right on cue, his stomach gave another traitorous growl, louder this time. The ram smirked.

Without another word, he turned and ladled a steaming bowl of soup, the rich aroma wafting through the air. He carried it over and settled onto the couch beside the wolf, far too casually, as if this sort of closeness was perfectly normal. He stirred the soup once, then lifted a spoonful toward Shadow Milk’s lips.

Shadow Milk recoiled slightly, frowning. “I can feed myself.”

“Hmm~” the ram hummed, utterly unconvinced. “You can barely stand. Let me help.”

“I said I don’t need help from some stupid ram”

“Pure Vanilla,” the ram interrupted, gently.

Shadow Milk blinked. “Huh…?”

“That’s my name,” the ram said, smiling as he tilted the spoon slightly, letting a bit of broth steam up between them. “Pure Vanilla. But I’m sure you already knew that, my feisty little shadow wolf.”

Shadow Milk stared at him, mouth still slightly open, stunned into momentary silence. Then he snapped it shut with a quiet click of sharp teeth, heat rising in his ears as his eyes flicked away.

He… knew his name. Of course he did.

From his many hours cough days cough stalking the herd, watching them from the cover of the trees, learning their patterns, their shapes, their smells. He’d known the ram’s name for a long time now.

He just hadn’t expected it to sound so soft coming from the ram’s own lips.

“I… don’t understand what you’re talking about,” he lied, eyes narrowing.

Pure Vanilla chuckled. “Hm~ you don’t remember all those times we made eye contact while you were hiding in the trees?”

Shadow Milk’s ears flattened. He knew that bastard saw him…

“Or the gifts I left you?” Pure Vanilla continued, smile curling at the edges. “You accepted them so graciously, my dear. Took them so eagerly. You looked so cute when you’d find them… like an adorable little puppy.”

Okay—maybe he’d used some of the things Pure Vanilla left behind. A scarf. A patch of herbs. Once, even a wrapped bundle of dried meat he’d pretended not to sniff at for ten minutes before devouring it whole.

“But it was for survival!” his mind cried. It’s not like he looked forward to the gifts or anything!

“It made me so happy,” the ram went on sweetly, “to see my precious bluebird smiling with what I provided.”

BLUEBIRD? EXCUSE ME?!”

Pure Vanilla’s eyes twinkled. “Oh my…..is my beloved upset?” he cooed, head tilting slightly as he set the bowl of soup down on the coffee table. “No… I don’t think that’s quite it.”

He leaned in slowly, deliberately, until his mouth hovered just inches above Shadow Milk’s. His hands pressed the wolf gently back down into the cushions.

“No,” he whispered, voice dropping low. “This is something else. I can smell it.”

A soft breath hit Shadow Milk’s cheek, and he shivered.

“Aww… is my beloved embarrassed?

“Sc… screw… you,” Shadow Milk growled, barely above a whisper.

Pure Vanilla chuckled warm, rich, far too pleased with himself. “Mmm… that’s not how we ask for things, bluebird.”

He dipped lower, slow and deliberate, his breath brushing against the hollow of Shadow Milk’s neck. Shadow Milk stiffened.

“Wait….what the hell was happening? I was the predator. I was supposed to be on top. Not this stupid, smug, fleece-covered—”

He could feel Pure Vanilla’s breath ghosting his throat, every warm exhale lighting up his nerves like wildfire. His cheeks burned deeper, dark blue flooding over his skin like twilight.

He reached up instinctively but both his wrists were already caught, cradled firmly in one of the ram’s larger hands. Caged with such absurd ease.

“Now,” Pure Vanilla whispered, voice dripping with affection, “let’s try this again, my love~ Won’t you let me feed you?”

Shadow Milk squirmed beneath him, ears twitching, lips trembling.

“Ughhhh… aahhh… fine.

“Hm? What was that, my dear?” The grip on his hands tightened ever so slightly.

Shadow Milk’s spine arched at the subtle pressure, a shiver ripping through him and to his utter horror, his tail wagged once. “ What is the matter with me! Get a grip Shadow Milk”

Humiliated, flushed, flustered beyond reason, he growled through clenched teeth:

“Yes… you may feed me.”

“There we go,” Pure Vanilla purred, beaming. “Was that so hard? I knew my sweet bluebird could learn some new tricks~”

Pure Vanilla carefully lifted the spoon and began feeding him, one gentle mouthful at a time. His golden and light blue eyes—soft and watchful—never left Shadow Milk’s face, making sure he finished every last spoonful.

The focused attention made the wolf squirm beneath it. He’d never had anyone’s undivided care like this before. It was strange. Warm. Almost comforting.

With his belly finally full and the fever ebbing away, Shadow Milk slowly became aware of just how cozy he was. The thick blanket wrapped around him was soft, the fire crackled warmly nearby, and Pure Vanilla’s hand was now gently rubbing one of his ears in a slow, soothing motion.

This… this was nice. Maybe even something he could get used to.

“You know,” Pure Vanilla murmured, voice low and thoughtful, “I’ve seen you following us for quite some time. I figured after a while you’d grow tired and look for prey elsewhere… but you’re still here.”

Shadow Milk blinked, the warmth blooming inside him growing stronger, more than just the fire now. His hips shifted slightly under the blanket, trousers growing tighter as his tail thumped lightly against the couch with each stroke of the ram’s fingers behind his ears.

He hated how good it felt. Hated how his body leaned in, chasing more of that gentle touch.

“You accepted all my offerings so sweetly,” Pure Vanilla murmured, voice like velvet, “I just couldn’t help myself. You looked so lonely… a poor wolf without a pack… no company, it gets lonely traveling with just my sheep as well.”

Those fingers slid downward, slow and deliberate, until a thumb brushed softly against the corner of Shadow Milk’s bottom lip, swiping the edge with quiet reverence.

The ram leaned in, lips near his ear, breath warm and intimate.

“Does someone wanna be part of my pack?” he whispered, low and tempting. “Is that why you followed me? Even through a snowstorm~?”

“Hu… huh…” Shadow Milk breathed.

The words shattered his daze.

His eyes snapped wide, tail stilled, and he realized just how close the ram had gotten. Pure Vanilla’s eyes were half-lidded, dark with heat, and a thin sheen of sweat glistened on his forehead. A deep flush stained his cheeks a dusky red, and he was still…watching. Waiting.

Shadow Milk’s breath hitched. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to snarl or melt.

“I’ve always wanted a herding dog,” Pure Vanilla murmured, voice low and dangerously sweet. “What does the puppy say? Wanna be mine?”

Before Shadow Milk could react, the ram’s hand moved—firm and deliberate—pressing down where the wolf’s arousal strained against his trousers.

A sharp whimper escaped him, unbidden. His hips jolted ever so slightly, shame burning through him as Pure Vanilla’s hand moved in slow, coaxing circles. Not too rough. Not too fast. Just enough to undo him.

Those golden-blue eyes never left his face, drinking in every twitch, every gasp, every slow collapse of pride.

The warm room. His full belly. That soft voice calling to him. The hand that knew exactly where to touch and how to make him melt.

It was too much.

The wall crumbled.

“Y-Yes,” Shadow Milk gasped, breathless, eyes glassy. “P-please… just… don’t stop…”

Pure Vanilla’s smile deepened.

“Hmmhmmhmm… Good boy~”, suddenly it didn’t feel as if Shadow milk was the hunter more like the hunted.

Lifting his hand away, Pure Vanilla reached instead for the scruff of Shadow Milk’s neck, fingers curling around it possessively. His smile was sweet, disarmingly so, but there was an edge to it, like silk pulled tight over steel.

“And since you’re my good boy,” he purred, “you’ll listen to what I have to say, won’t you?”

“Y…yes,” Shadow Milk panted, shivering under the weight of attention. “Please… just keep touching me…”

“In time, dear,” Pure Vanilla murmured, brushing his thumb across the wolf’s jaw. “But first… I need you to kneel for me, bluebird~”

He leaned down, catching Shadow Milk’s lips in a kiss, slow, deep, tongues brushing in a heated tangle. When they finally pulled apart, their breaths mingled in the warm space between them, a delicate string of spit still connecting their mouths.

Dazed and breathless, Shadow Milk slowly lowered to the floor, hands trembling as he knelt in front of Pure Vanilla, eyes wide and pleading. The ram spread his hooves slightly, gaze heavy as he looked down at his obedient little wolf.

The soft whimpers Shadow Milk let out, half frustration, half longing, were music to Pure Vanilla’s ears.

“I need you to do something for me, love,” he said gently, fingers threading through dark strands of hair. “Before I can help you, okay?”

“But… it aches,” Shadow Milk whispered, voice cracking. “Why are you leaving me like this… please…”

“Tsk, tsk, darling,” Pure Vanilla tutted, stroking his cheek. “What did we say about listening?”

The wolf growled softly, conflicted, ears twitching. Then, slowly, he bowed his head.

“Grrr… fine… I’m sorry. I’ll listen.”

“There we go,” Pure Vanilla purred, voice as warm and velvety as the fire behind him. “Good boy~ And every good boy needs a collar, right?”

Shadow Milk blinked up at him, throat dry. “I… I think so…”

Pure Vanilla leaned down, one hand tilting his chin up. “You’re my good boy, aren’t you? So sweet. And you listen so well…”

“I… I…”
 His voice faltered.

Shadow Milk’s mind swam, caught in a riptide of clashing instinct and aching need. He wasn’t supposed to feel like this. He was a predator. A hunter. Wild, untamed, alone by choice. Not… pampered. Not owned. Not weak.

And yet… this warmth, this friction—it made him feel good. Safe. Wanted. Weak in a way that was terrifying and addictive. He was tired of always being alone, and now he had his chance to not be anymore…

“No… no… NO! I’m not som—ohhh… that’s nice~”

Before he could finish that thought, Pure Vanilla’s fingers found that spot behind his ear again. A single, practiced scratch, and the wolf collapsed with a muffled groan, cheek nuzzled against the ram’s thigh. All that pride, all that protest, melted in an instant.

He didn’t even fight when Pure Vanilla lifted something from the side table, a soft leather, yellow and polished collar.

With gentle, reverent hands, the ram slipped it around his neck. Shadow Milk shuddered as he felt the buckle fasten, his heart thudding louder than the fire crackling nearby. Then came the leash, Pure Vanilla’s fingers threading it through his own hands before slowly drawing it back, deliberate and teasing, until he reached the handle.

He gave it a small, possessive tug.

“There,” he murmured, voice dipped in honey and dominance. “Now you’re exactly where you belong.”

And the wolf, flushed, panting, trembling, couldn’t bring himself to disagree.

“My puppy dog…so sweet…I see that devotion in your eyes~ Now beg for your satisfaction, dear… and maybe, just maybe, if you do good enough, you’ll get a treat.”

“…pl…ea…se…”

“Hm? What was that, my dear? I couldn’t quite hear you~”

“Please.”

Louder.

With a coy tilt of his head, Pure Vanilla raised his hoof, pressing it slowly, deliberately against the wolf’s aching length. The pressure made the beast moan, his hips stuttering from even the smallest touch.

PLEASE!

The plea tore from Shadow Milk’s throat, raw and desperate, a pitiful sound for such a powerful creature. But it made the ram’s heart skip, the sight of his beloved predator reduced to whimpers and trembles a delight too delicious to resist. Oh, how he adored hearing his beast’s voice crack beneath him.

“There we go,” he cooed, lifting Shadow Milk’s chin with a single finger. “Go ahead… unsheath yourself.”

The wolf’s fingers trembled as he reached for his trousers only to be yanked still by a sudden tug on the leash. His body jolted upward, eyes widening as he was pulled into Pure Vanilla’s gaze. Those yellow and blue eyes, soft and stern, burrowed into his soul with quiet command.

“And what do we say when we’re given a treat?”

“…Th-thank you…”

“There we go. Go on~”

The leash slackened. His cock fianlly freed, Shadow Milk let out a breathy moan and began grinding against his master’s leg, slow and needy, chasing every friction his body craved. He humped with shameless abandon, his moans light and trembling, little gasps of pleasure that escaped with every thrust. His mismatched eyes fluttered shut as the world blurred into a haze of devotion and desire.

Maybe this was where he belonged...on his knees, aching and adored, at the feet of the one who owned his heart and soul. Tears of overstimulation filling his eyes as he finally came across his masters hooved feet. Resting his head against his beloveds thigh whimpering as he motion for one of the rams hands to scratch behind his head.

“Aww~ is my beloved bluebird satisfied?”

“Yes… thank you,” the wolf breathed, voice still trembling with the aftershocks of bliss.

“There we go…someone’s a fast learner. But now I need your help with something, dear~”

“Hm?” Shadow Milk tilted his head, still panting softly. “What is it, Pure Vanilla?”

The healer motioned to his robes, revealing the aching bulge at the center, already tenting and soaked with a sweet, sticky wetness. The wolf’s eyes locked onto it, pupils dilating, his mouth parting with a soft gasp. That scent…salty and sweet, vanilla and musk hit him like a wave, thick and overwhelming. It made his jaw ache with hunger.

A low whimper escaped his throat as he leaned forward, unprompted, leash forgotten. He didn’t need the pull anymore. The desire alone led him.

“Please,” he whispered, lips barely able to form the words, “I promise I can satisfy… Just let me have a taste, please.”

“Mmm, now that’s what I like to hear,” Pure Vanilla purred, voice honey-smooth. “Go ahead, pull up my robe, dear~”

With reverence, Shadow Milk lifted the soft fabric, eyes wide as the healer’s cock sprung free leaking thick with pre, the smell of vanilla so strong it could make a lesser creature gag.

But the wolf only drooled.

His clawed fingers gently curled around Pure Vanilla’s hips, savoring the feel of the silky blonde fur that trailed up to his navel. So soft, so perfect. He couldn’t help himself…his tongue snaked out for an experimental lick, slow and greedy, tasting along the shaft like a melting scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Delicious.

The first taste pulled a deep, guttural groan from Shadow Milk’s chest a sound so raw it vibrated through his throat. It was too much and not enough. His hunger tipped over into need as he finally dove down on the ram’s cock, taking it to the very base, his throat stretching wide to welcome the full length.

Above him, Pure Vanilla let out a sharp moan, one hand instinctively tangling in the wolf’s hair, gripping tight. The ram’s head tilted back as he sang out sweet praises, each word dripping with pleasure.

“Good boy~ such a sweet, loyal thing…”

With his other hand, he yanked the leash taut, forcing the wolf closer…deeper. The pain at his scalp mingled with the strain in his throat, each swallow pulling more of that thick, sweet pre straight down. Shadow Milk whimpered, a blissed-out sound of masochistic satisfaction.

This… this was where he belonged.

No more wandering alone in the cold. No more hunts through endless shadowed forests, aching with hunger. No more pretending to be a beast without a home.

Here, beneath his beloved ram, he had purpose.

Here, he brought pleasure.

Here, he belonged.

Tears pricked the corners of his eyes, not from pain but from the overwhelming high of it all. His claws dug softly into Pure Vanilla’s thighs, desperate for more, for closeness, for any hint of approval. He longed to grip onto the ram’s horns, to anchor himself to the one who tamed him so thoroughly.

Each cry of pleasure from Pure Vanilla above was a hymn and Shadow Milk? He was the worshipper, mouth full and heart overflowing.

With a strangled, gurgling cry, Pure Vanilla came, his whole body tensing as waves of ecstasy surged through him. His head fell back against the couch's plush headrest, chest rising and falling in rapid, heaving breaths. Beneath him, Shadow Milk struggled to swallow, the sheer volume of his beloved’s release overwhelming, spilling past his lips in thick, salty streams.

The wolf’s throat worked with effort, eyes half-lidded, but he didn’t pull away. He took it all.

The sight made the ram smile.

So devoted. So beautiful. So utterly his.

He had chosen well.

“My sweet, sweet bluebird…”

With a gentle tug of the leash, Pure Vanilla guided his wolf up into his arms. The wolf climbed onto the couch without hesitation, crawling up and curling against his master like a tired, obedient pup. The leash slackened between them as Pure Vanilla wrapped a soft blanket around their tangled bodies.

He cradled Shadow Milk close, their mismatched eyes meeting one last time, filled with warmth and quiet adoration, before they both turned their gazes toward the fire. Its soft, flickering light danced across their skin, casting shadows that only deepened their comfort.

Wrapped in each other’s arms, lulled by heat and affection, they drifted to sleep no longer predator and prey, no longer lost or lonely.

Just two souls who had finally found home.

******************************************************************************

Leading his herd gently past the riverbank, Pure Vanilla paused as a graceful figure emerged from the trees. A familiar face, soft-eyed and adorned with delicate lilies braided through her antlers.

“Ah—White Lily,” he called warmly, “how are you, my beloved friend?”

“I’m well, Pure Vanilla,” she replied with a gentle smile. “I saw you on the hill yonder and thought I’d stop by… but I must ask—” Her voice lowered, concerned. “Dear friend, you do know there’s a wolf tailing the back of your herd, right?”

Pure Vanilla turned calmly, glancing over his shoulder toward the edge of the flock. Sure enough, Shadow Milk prowled near the rear, growling low at a few lagging cotton candy sheep. The stragglers bleated in panic and hurried to catch up, clearly motivated.

A yellow waffle-patterned collar sat snug around the wolf’s neck, the soft clink of a blue tag dangling from the front catching the sunlight. It read Shadow Milk. The moment their eyes met, the growl softened, and Shadow Milk’s tail wagged instinctively, betraying his pride and joy at being noticed.

Pure Vanilla smiled, tone utterly casual.

“Ah, didn’t I mention it in my last letter?”

He turned back to White Lily, eyes glinting with fondness.

“I got myself a new dog~”
