PRISON CAR (INT.)- NIGHT TIME
Fade back to- HANNA MARIN
Hanna:
I didn’t think I could feel worse after A killed Mona. But having the whole world think that we could ever do it brings low to a whole new level.
Cut out to see SPENCER HASTINGS, ARIA MONTGOMERY, and EMILY FIELDS sitting with her, all wearing orange jumpsuits and handcuffed.
Spencer:
Technically they think we’re accessories, not killers.
Aria:
An accessory is a necklace or a handbag, not a chain gang.
Hanna:
Call it what you want, we’re all going to jail. A wins.
Emily:
Why do you think they’re separating us from Ali?
Hanna:
There’s a lady in the laundry. If you do her work she gives you information. Yesterday she told me the warden received an anonymous tip. They think the five of us are planning something big.
Spencer:
What, and they think Ali’s the big bad wolf?
Aria:
Does that make us the 3 little pigs or little red?
Spencer:
Doesn’t matter. A wolf can’t lead without her pack.
Hanna:
When we get there, they're probably going to split us up, too.
They all pause, the reality of the situation sinking in.
Emily:
What's it like, Han?
Hanna:
Do you want me to sugarcoat it or tell you the truth?
Emily:
Well, if I'm going to get through it, I need to know what to expect.
Hanna:
They treat you like a criminal, and it's hard to remember that you're not one.
She pauses
Hanna:
The first night's the hardest.
You're locked away from everything and everyone you ever cared about.
And when they turn those lights out, it is the loneliest feeling you could ever imagine.
Emily:
Second thought, I could have used a thick coat of sugar.
Hanna:
You can't be ready for how it feels, Em.
It's hard not to give up on hope.
Spencer:
You guys, they can take everything from us, but they can't take us from each other. I don't care how far apart from you guys I am, I will still be with you.
Aria:
Me, too.
Emily:
Same here.
Hanna:
I love you, guys.
Suddenly, the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop. The tires screech, a crash is heard from outside and the impact sends the liars tumbling to the ground.
Hanna:
What the hell was that?
Spencer gets up and notices the doorknob slowly opening.
Spencer:
Guys?
The double doors swing open, to reveal A, dressed in their dark hoodie, black pants, gloves, shoes. But instead of covering their face with a dark cloth, they have an Alison mask on.
The liars scream and back away, as A pulls out a stink bomb. They throw it, it explodes a smoky gas, and the liars all faint.
Cut to black.
*TITLE SEQUENCE*
DOLLHOUSE-NIGHTTIME (INT.)
One by one, the liars open their eyes.
They are still in their prison jumpsuits, and they wake up in what seems to be their bedrooms.
Hanna gets out of bed immediately.
Hanna:
Mom?!
Her voice is heard from Emily’s room.
Emily gets up and cautiously walks towards the door.
She hears a beep.
She jerks her head towards the corner of the room where she heard it.
It’s a camera, beeping red, and focusing on her.
Emily:
Hello?! Who’s there!
Cut to Spencer and then Aria, who hear the others yelling.
Spencer:
Mom?!
Aria:
Where are you?!
Cut to Hanna, who begins hyperventilating.
Cut to Emily, on the verge of tears backing away from the camera.
Cut to Spencer, who fails to twist the doorknob. She looks around the room, looking for any object that could help her escape.
Hanna:
Guys?! Where are you!
Emily:
Hanna? Hanna, I’m here, it’s okay, I’m here!
Cut to Aria, who grabs a chair and smashes it against a window, only to realize that there’s cement on the other side.
Aria:
What the hell…
Suddenly a chime goes off, it can be heard in all of the bedrooms.
Show all of their reactions.
A speaker is heard, an automated message with a woman's voice.
Speaker (O.S):
Welcome. Willkommen. Bienvenidos.
Please exit your room and follow the lighted pathway.
The liars jump as their bedroom doors are suddenly open.
They all step out and see each other.
DOLLHOUSE HALLS (INT.)
The dollhouses' halls are dark, and large. They echo each footstep made and are dimly lit.
Spencer:
Oh, my God. Is everybody okay?
Emily:
What is this place?
Hanna:
I think this is A's house.
Spencer:
More like A's dollhouse.
Aria:
Yeah, and we're the dolls.
Speaker (O.S):
Please follow the lighted pathway. Please follow the lighted pathway.
Hanna:
We heard you, bitch.
DOLLHOUSE DILAURENTIS LIVING ROOM (INT.)
The liars follow the lights until they enter a room that resembles the Dilaurentis living room.
A piano is heard playing. It echoes in the halls of the dollhouse.
Pan to an exact replica of the Dilaurentis piano. Someone is playing it, with curled blonde hair, a yellow layered top, blue skinny jeans, and white heels. They’re wearing an Alison mask.
Emily:
Ali, is that you?
The figure takes off their mask, to reveal that they are MONA VANDERWAAL, actually alive.
The liars gasp.
Hanna:
Oh, my God! Mona?
Mona:
Mona? I know it's been a while, but I haven't changed that much, have I? You guys, it's me... Alison.
She smiles.
Cut to black.
REAL DILAURENTIS LIVING ROOM-NIGHTTIME (INT.)
Come back to a tv report.
Reporter:
It has been exactly 24 hours since Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields, and Hanna Marin have vanished from a crashed police van off the side of Rosewood's town limits.
Showcase the crashed remains of the vehicle, with the back doors left open and the side doors damaged.
Reporter:
As covered last week, the 4 teenage girls have been recently labelled as accessories to the murder of Mona Vanderwaal who was murdered last Thanksgiving,
Show a photo of Mona
Reporter (CONT’D):
After Alison Dilaurentis was found guilty of murdering her.
Show recorded video of Alison's last trial. Switch to the photo of Alison previously used for her missing poster.
Reporter:
Dilaurentis was a popular and active member of the Rosewood community 2 years back before she disappeared from a sleepover on September 1 2009.
Cut back to ALISON DILAURENTIS, sitting on a couch with her father KENNETH, her brother JASON, and several police officers such as TOBY CAVANAUGH and DETECTIVE LINDA TANNER. They watch as the TV report continues. Alison looks different now, her eyes exhausted after her time in prison, and her hair shoulder length and wavy, having cut off her long curls in prison.
Reporter:
She would be presumed dead a year later following the discovery of an escaped Radley Sanitarium patient named Bethany Young, whose dead body was confused for Dilaurentis’. The following year after that, Dilaurentis came out of hiding and told authorities that she was kidnapped, only for the story to be uncovered as a lie, leaving the questions of what happened to Alison when she disappeared and what she had been doing for these 2 years, a mystery.
Tanner speaks up
Detective Tanner:
We think the transport officers were neutralized with an injection of flunitrazepam.
Kenneth:
The date rape drug?
Toby:
The deputies were knocked out clean, they regained consciousness this morning with no memory of the incident.
Alison:
My friends were wrongfully accused to begin with. And now they're all missing.
Kenneth:
Let's get our facts straight. Can we confirm the incident was an abduction?
Tanner:
We can’t jump to conclusions, Mr. Dilaurentis. They could have been abducted, or they could have made a grand plan to escape police custody.
She glances at Alison.
Tanner:
Remember, you’re a free woman right now only because Mona’s alive, so even if your friends aren’t really accessories, unless we can prove a kidnapping we must consider that they may have destroyed a police vehicle and assaulted our officers just to escape.
Alison glances at the surrounding officers. She takes a deep breath, and with consideration she turns to Kenneth.
Alison:
Dad, you don’t think that-
Kenneth:
A is behind this?
Alison looks strangely at him, she was going to suggest something else.
Kenneth puts on a more concerned tone.
Kenneth:
Al, we can’t tell for sure who this A person is. We have to go through all possibilities.
Toby and Tanner glance at each other. They can tell Kenneth stopped Alison from saying something.
Jason focuses on the TV.
Reporter:
Although there have been lots of unknown details regarding this situation, something did come up earlier this morning. A flash drive was mailed to the police station containing what seems to be security camera footage of Mona Vaanderwal, waking up in an unknown area, dazed and confused.
Show the footage that reveals Mona, walking across the halls of the dollhouse.
Mona:
Hello?!
She stumbles around.
Mona: Is there anybody there?! Please!
The video abruptly ends.
Reporter:
The video was dated November 25, 2011, the day after Thanksgiving when Vanderwaal was initially believed to be murdered. Because of this development, the police have recently exonerated Alison Dilaurentis of her murder charge, and now all efforts are made to locate the now 5 missing girls.
Pictures appear of the liars and Mona.
Reporter:
If you have any information about the whereabouts of these people, please contact the Rosewood police station, number listed here below.
Tanner turns to Kenneth.
Tanner:
We’ll be leaving squad cars around the house just in case. The rest of us will have to attend to some things at the station.
The cops, including Toby and Tanner clear the room, leaving Alison, Jason, and Kenneth on the couch.
Jason:
Ali, you okay?
Alison:
Yeah.
She gets up and walks upstairs.
Alison: I’ll just…go to sleep. I’m really tired.
Jason nods.
Alison goes upstairs slowly, and when she’s out of sight she jogs to her bedroom door and shuts it without entering. She then goes to a window in the hallway and quietly opens it. Climbing out, she hangs onto the frame as she silently closes it shut, and lets herself fall out onto the ground.
Pan down as she falls. When she gets up, pan to see NOEL KAHN, CALEB RIVERS and EZRA FITZ there in the backyard.
Alison:
My family thinks I’m asleep. I know how they are at times like this, they’ll be too cautious to bother me, I’ll at least have until 6 AM tomorrow before I have to come back.
Caleb:
Then we better move fast, let's go.
Alison follows the others into some bushes to avoid the sight of some squad cars. They go to another car and drive off.
CALEB'S BUILDING (INT.)
Cut to Caleb's electronics store.
His apartment is attached to the store, where many computer and tracking systems are present. Noel, Alison, and Ezra stand by Caleb as he hacks into Rosewood's PD’s system.
Caleb:
And if you cross-check the van's GPS system with the PD's system, it goes dead right here. On Route 30, near the railroad crossing. That's when A hacked into the van's computer system and took remote control of the vehicle.
Ezra:
Okay, so "A" would have needed to be near to keep the van on the road.
Caleb:
The overpass would have given "A" a clear view and also cover from the deputies.
Alison:
Are there any traffic cameras in the area that you can hack into?
Caleb:
I am one step ahead of you. Backing up that footage now. One frame of A, that's all we need.
DOLLHOUSE DILAURENTIS LIVING ROOM (INT.)
Hanna rushes over to Mona and hugs her. Tears form in her eyes as she struggles to speak.
Hanna: Oh my god, Mona I thought I lost you…
Mona is clearly touched, but she glances at a beeping red camera in the corner of the room.
Her smile drops, she dries her eyes.
Mona:
Slow down hefty, dealing with another sugar rush?
She lightly pushes Hanna off as the other liars approach her.
Mona:
I know it’s been a while but I never realized you would miss me THAT much…
She laughs. It unnerves the liars.
Mona: C’mon, sit.
She gets up and goes to the couch.
The liars follow, but Aria moves around and begins inspecting the room. Spencer sits across from Hanna and Emily, who sit at Mona’s sides.
Hanna:
I can't believe it's really you.
Aria continues to move around, inspecting the place.
Aria:
Everything here is a carbon copy of our furniture… They must’ve been commissioned to look the way they do, a lot of these styles aren’t made too often anymore, there’s no easy way to just buy stuff that looks exactly like this… There has to be another way out.
Mona:
There is not. Now come, sit down. It's tea time.
Emily:
Tea time?
Spencer:
What is this place? Do you know where we are?
Mona:
We're in my living room, Spencer. This is my house. Why are you acting like such an imbecile?
The liars shift uncomfortably as Mona passes around cups of tea and a plate of cookies to the others.
Mona:
Han, it's not like you're gonna gain it all back by eating one cookie. You know you want one.
Hanna:
We really thought you were dead.
Mona:
Thank God for Mrs. Grunwald. I don't know how I'll ever repay her for saving my life that night. I'm so happy to see you guys.
Hanna:
We're really happy to see you too, Mona.
Mona jerks her head towards Hanna.
Mona:
Do not call me that again. You know how much I loathe that bitch.
Emily begins to inspect Mona’s blonde curls and realizes it’s not a wig.
Emily (mouthing):
It’s her hair.
Spencer, not knowing how to respond, turns to Mona.
Spencer:
So, Alison... More tea?
A bell chimes 4 times through the speakers. Mona jerks her head in the doors direction and looks nervous for a split second before turning her attention to the liars, quickly calming her mood.
Mona:
We need to start the game.
Aria:
What if we don't want to play?
Mona (adamant, a bit firm):
Four chimes means it's game time.
DOLLHOUSE MULTIPURPOSE ROOM (INT.)
Mona gets up and the liars follow her to a large room. It has a high ceiling with a large camera on the center pole. It moves and focuses on the liars and Mona.
The room has fake grass, a tall fake oak tree, and a set of stones meant to be a pathway. A white lounge chair is propped up in front of a facade of a backyard wall and door.
Spencer:
Guys, this is Ali’s backyard.
Speaker (O.S):
Please get in your places. (X2)
Hanna:
What places?
Mona:
When you guys first met me, remember?
The liars shift uncomfortably.
Mona is apprehensive to get the game going.
Mona:
C’mon, how slow are you guys? I’m pretty sure I was relaxing on this lounge chair here and you guys were sneaking around the bushes with these uh, eggs in your hands.
Mona sits on the chair and smiles unnaturally.
Spencer:
You mean on Halloween?
FLASHBACK- REAL DILAURENTIS BACKYARD, HALLOWEEN EVENING 2007
Alison is sitting on a white lounge chair. She’s younger, only 13. She toys with her ring, with the name Alison engraved on it. She’s a bit angry about something, looking back inside her house before turning back and huffing.
Rustling is heard in the bushes of her backyard.
Alison gets up cautiously.
Alison:
Hello?
Her fear quickly subsides as she sees 4 other girls trying, but failing to hide themselves. Alison’s shoulders sink, and she laughs softly. Her face subtly morphs into a smirk as she begins to sashay towards the bushes.
Alison:
I know you guys are there. C’mon, Hellen Keller could sense you guys in those bushes.
The 4 girls; Aria, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna, all 13 as well step out of the bushes. They have sheepish looks on their faces with eggs in their hands.
Alison looks at the eggs and crosses her arms.
Alison:
And what were you all planning to do with those?
She snickers.
Spencer:
A-Alison I- uh, we are so sorry. We swear it was just a prank.
Alison:
So messing with people’s walls is a joke now?
Hanna:
What are you gonna do?
Alison smirks as she looks at all of them, and some sort of idea forms in her head. She paces slowly around them.
Alison:
Hm. Y’know I could annihilate you guys right now. I could let everyone at school know how you all failed miserably to egg my house. …But I’ll let you guys off the hook.
The liars all sigh in relief.
Aria:
Oh my god,
Emily:
We swear, we’ll leave you alone, it’ll be like we were never here.
Alison:
Why so hasty? You don’t have to be avoiding me y’know… in fact I think what you guys tried to pull off is pretty fun. Not cool that it was towards me, but fun. …I’ve been looking for friends like you guys.
The liars’ faces light up.
Alison:
How about you guys go home for now, have those eggs for dinner instead of wasting them on my house, and come back here tomorrow so we can all go to the mall.
The liars are ecstatic.
Spencer:
Of course! Thank you!
The liars excitedly leave and Alison smirks at them, holding a finger up to her mouth.
DOLLHOUSE MULTIPURPOSE ROOM- PRESENT DAY (INT.)
Cut back to Mona, on the lounge chair. She glances at the camera, shifting from her, to focusing on the liars. Her smile drops for a split second.
Mona:
C’mon guys, remember when I saw you guys in the bushes? Go to the bushes. Please.
Hanna:
No. No way, there’s no way I’m playing this game!
She walks up to the camera.
Hanna:
Hey! You hear me?! I’m not gonna sit around here and re-enact Ali’s greatest hits for you alright?!
Mona:
Hanna, please!
Hanna:
No, you are not Alison, you’re Mona, ok? And this is not your house. You're not here alone anymore.
She jerks her head to the camera.
Hanna:
There are five of us, and one of them.
Aria:
Hanna's right. Let's find a way to get the hell out of here.
They all turn to leave as Mona anxiously gets up from the chair.
Spencer:
Mona, let's go.
Mona:
My name is Alison. Alison DiLaurentis.
Emily:
Mona, let's go!
Suddenly, unbearably loud sirens blair, everyone instinctively covers their ears.
Spencer:
What is that!
Mona:
I tried to warn you!
Emily:
Guys, I can't take it!
Mona:
Hurry! Guys! It won't stop until you're in your rooms!
Everyone runs to their rooms, the doors slamming shut behind all of them. The sirens abruptly stop.
CALEB’S BUILDING (INT.)
Caleb is still on his computer, as Noel, Alison and Ezra wait, now joined by Toby.
Caleb:
It should be coming up.
Toby:
You can't get to that overpass without passing a camera, right?
The computer begins to load up the security cam footage of the road. But instead of showing the van crash that night, it shows a vintage cartoon with twins.
Toby:
What the…
Caleb:
A found a way to override the camera.
Ezra:
A's mocking us with a damn cartoon.
He backs up and rubs his head angrily.
Noel:
‘Bout to throw a tantrum there?
Ezra:
I need to find Aria. And we've got nothing. Nothing!
Noel glances at Ezra.
Noel:
And why do you need to find Aria?
Ezra stops and looks at him. Alison notices the tension about to rise in the room.
Alison:
Noel. Not now.
Caleb:
I wanna find the others too okay? I’m also getting pretty desperate to find Hanna, but throwing comments at each other won’t achieve anything.
He turns to his computer.
Caleb:
If I can find the right code, then maybe I can write a program that'll pinpoint the source of the hacker's signal. That's all we need to prove to Tanner that A took control of the van.
Alison backs up, and pulls out her phone.
Alison:
If we’re gonna find where they are, we need to find all the help we can get.
Going towards another room, she pulls out her phone. Noel follows. Ezra glances at him.
Noel:
Hey, what are you doing?
Alison:
I’m getting someone else who can help us.
Noel:
Who exactly do you have in mind?
Alison gives him a look, one that makes him realize who she’s thinking of, someone that the audience doesn’t know yet.
Noel:
Her?... It’s been so long, do you think that she’ll really come back?
Alison:
If it’s for our friends, then yes she will.
Noel:
Does she even know anything that’s been going on here? She’s been doing a really good job at this “off the grid” thing…
Alison gives him another look.
Alison:
And suddenly it’s something to blame her for?
Noel:
No, I didn’t mean it like that, I just… I’ve been busting my ass helping you out. With Cece, with your plans on the run, and now with this. And I could’ve backed out, that blackmail you held over me means nothing now, but I’m still with you guys on this. Why are you now relying on everyone else?
Alison sighs.
Alison:
It is true… you have done a lot. But I sometimes wonder just how much you would’ve helped me if I wasn’t holding it over you that you pushed that girl off the stairs at that party all those years ago.
Noel:
Well, you were the one who let Cece take the blame. I know you can be a bitch, but… you did save my ass. You actually understood that it was an accident. You heard me out and knew that no matter how angry I was at you, and her, I didn’t want to hurt anyone. Dammit, I think you were the first person who’s ever done that for me.
Alison pauses.
Alison:
So you really care about our friends?
Noel:
I know I broke up with 2 of them, but I don’t need some romantic connection to be worried for someone's safety. All of this crazy stuff, with the trials, now kidnappings… I’m worried too. That’s why I’m also worried about Aria, and if we find her, what if Ezra’s the first person to see her again.
Alison:
It’s okay, I know how to keep Ezra under control. He’s a creep, that’s for sure, but until we have the space to address it, we have to prioritize finding the others… And I do appreciate everything you’ve done, even if it started because I was blackmailing you.
They laugh softly, making a bit of light from the situation.
Alison:
But you have to understand that I have to make this call and get Duncan to bring her here in Rosewood. She cares too, just as much as you.
Noel nods, understanding, and lets Alison make a call.
Alison:
Duncan?
She looks back to make sure the others aren’t listening.
Alison:
I need you to pick her up from California, NOW. I’ll text you the address, I’ll call her and she should be expecting you by the time you’re there.
DOLLHOUSE (INT.)
Hanna is laying down in her fake room.
She’s suddenly shaken awake by a hand, Mona’s.
Mona:
We've got 3 minutes. Come on.
DOLLHOUSE HALLWAYS (INT.)
All the liars are walking down the hallway and are led by Mona.
Aria:
Guys, once we’re back in our rooms, look around at the furniture, examine them. A might have commissioned some place to match the furniture to ours in our real homes. If there’s a tag on any item, it can lead us to where it came from, or who wanted them made.
Spencer nods.
Mona:
Every night the main generator shuts down like clockwork. It takes exactly 3 minutes for the back-up power to kick in. I’ve run for 90 seconds in each direction.
She points somewhere.
Mona:
That's the way out, but there's an old silo at the end, and you have to climb up. There’s a ladder, but it's about 50 feet to the top. And you can't get there before the power turns on and all the doors lock again.
She points in another direction
Mona:
That leads to a big, empty room. There's nothing there. It's not a way out. But if you go past it, there's a steel door at the end of the hall and it's sealed like a vault.
Spencer:
Like a bank vault? What’s inside?
Mona:
I'm dying to know, too, Spencer. But I've never made it inside. It's too far to make it back to your room.
Emily:
What happens if you don't make it back in time?
Mona shuts her eyes, and lets out a breath.
Mona:
A leaves you for days without food or water. They blast the siren until you'd rather die than listen to it one more second.
On a loop they’ll play a recording of the people that you've left behind, crying at your funeral… Is my mom okay?
Hanna:
Wait, so you know you're Mona?
Mona:
A wanted me to become Alison. So that's who I am when they’re watching. They think they’ve beat me. But I'm still here. I'm the one who's winning the game.
The liars glance at each other, unsure of how much of this situation they’ve actually won over.
Mona:
Is she okay? My mom?
Hanna:
I saw her a lot in the beginning. But there was a trial. They convicted Ali for your murder. And they arrested us as accessories.
Mona:
I didn't think you were wearing that to make a fashion statement.
The liars smile lightly.
Emily:
Yep, she's Mona.
Hanna:
Your mom never showed up to the courthouse. We heard that it was all too much for her.
Mona looks heartbroken at the news.
Hanna:
God, Mona, I'm so happy that you're okay.
She hugs her again, this time Mona feels safe to reciprocate the sentiment.
Suddenly lights begin turning back on, the generator is slowly starting up again.
Mona:
Did you hear that?
Aria:
Hear what?
Mona:
We've got 17 seconds. Run!
The liars and Mona all scatter and run to their rooms, shutting the doors right before the cameras start up again, in every room, the fake rooms, the fake Dilaurentis house, the multipurpose room, and the hallways. All beeping red.
DOLLHOUSE, SPENCER’S ROOM- EARLY MORNING.
Spencer lays in her bed, examining her fake room. She looks at all of her things, silently pondering how A managed to perfectly replicate every item and piece of furniture that was in her real room.
Pan across the whole place, intercut with Spencer's real room, showing just how perfect everything’s been replicated.
As we do this, something off becomes noticeable. A shelf is a bit out of place.
Spencer tilts her head and realizes this. She gets up and moves the shelf, and sees a small paper stuck onto the back. She examines the back of the shelf, and sees that the paper reads
“Brookhaven WoodShop- Commission
For: COURTNEY D.”
Spencer’s eyes go wide, reading the second name again, and again. This is the person who bought the furniture for the dollhouse. This might be A’s real name.
Spencer: Courtney? Who is this?
MONA’S ROOM (INT.)
Mona enters her room, a spitting image of Alison’s real room.
Mona stares at the copies of Alison's decorations, noticing a poster, and a decorative picture frame.
She has a strange look on her face. A never put these there before.
Both contain French poems about twins. The poster contains a blonde girl whose image is split to replicate twins, while the picture frame has 3 children. An older boy, and two younger girls who look exactly alike.
These are both things that Alison has in her real room, but their replicas are now in the dollhouse for the first time.
Before Mona can examine any further, she notices a box on her bed.
She opens it, and sees a gas mask is inside it.
There’s a message that reads:
BECAUSE YOU’RE MY FAVORITE.
-A
ROSEWOOD POLICE STATION (INT.)-A FEW HOURS LATER.
Toby and Tanner are on a computer analyzing the footage that A tampered with.
Toby:
It's all there in black and white. Somebody cyber-jacked the van and kidnapped the girls.
Tanner:
You put a lot of work into this theory.
Toby:
It's not a theory, it's the facts.
Tanner:
Yes, I know. Our analyst gave me a very similar report last night. Take a look.
As Toby analyzes the report, Tanner pulls out a radio.
Officer:
Dispatch.
Tanner:
Put out an APB for Caleb Rivers.
Officer:
Yes, ma'am.
Toby:
What?
Tanner:
You don't happen to know where he is, do you, Officer Cavanaugh?
Toby:
No. I... I haven't seen him for days, but what does Caleb have to do with this?
Tanner:
These reports do prove that someone cyber-jacked that vehicle. And I'm betting that it is Caleb Rivers. I think he knows where his girlfriend is.
DOLLHOUSE HALLWAYS (INT.)
The liars are let out of their rooms. They all whisper
Emily:
Guys, how do we know we’re the only ones here?
Hanna:
What do you mean?
Emily:
Remember guys, when A got Cyrus Petrillo in the hospital? He hasn’t been seen since!
The girls pause, realizing that before Alison’s last trial, it had been a bit since they heard from Cyrus.
Hanna:
Well, Cyrus isn’t the only missing person who A might’ve made disappear. Remember Sara Harvey? She was a missing girl who was last seen the morning after Ali ran away, way back in 2009.
Aria:
Well, maybe that was just a coincidence.
Hanna:
And if it isn’t, then what could’ve happened to her?
Emily:
God, as if our problems weren’t complicated enough, A’s been getting other people gone as well. And we don’t even have as much as a clue to their name.
Spencer:
We do.
The others look at her.
Spencer:
You guys, there was a purchase tag on the bookshelf in my room, it was made from a shop in Brookhaven, and it was commissioned to look exactly like mine. And the name of the person who bought it is on the tag.
Emily:
What?
Aria:
So you’re saying that A’s name is written there?
Spencer:
Yes, but it’s one that I don’t recognize at all. The name was Courtney D.
The group pauses and takes in the name. They have never heard that name before, but it’s still one step closer to finding out who A is.
Aria:
Courtney? Who the hell is Courtney?
Spencer:
I have no clue either, but it’s either the real name of someone we know, or a fake name they used so that we wouldn’t know who they really are.
Everyone glances at each other.
Spencer: Either way, I think Courtney D. is still a major clue on who they might be. I think D might stand for-
Speaker (O.S):
Please find your stations.
MULTIPURPOSE ROOM (INT.)
The liars go to the large room and see that it is now filled with tables, and boxes with props. Mona is already there. The room looks like an unfinished prom.
Speaker (O.S):
Aria Montgomery, music committee. Emily Fields and Spencer Hastings, decorating committee. Hanna Marin, food and beverage.
Hanna:
Bite me.
Speaker (O.S):
Alison DiLaurentis, prom queen election committee.
They all go to examine the different things laid out for them.
Aria:
All these songs are from like 7 years ago.
Spencer:
A Night At The Opera. That was the prom theme the last year that Melissa took Ian.
Emily:
So A's recreating a prom we already had?
Mona:
Well, if I'm on the election committee, you can be sure I'll win that crown. Sort of like old times, huh, Spencer? Remember when I rigged the election for you to win class president? Want to fill some of these out? I'll help you if you help me.
Spencer:
Sure. If A doesn't mind, maybe we can all help each other, starting with these ballots.
Spencer and Mona pair off.
Mona:
Are you okay?
Spencer:
So this is going to be our senior prom? We're decorating with construction paper and tape? Maybe that's part of our punishment, to put together the lamest prom ever.
Mona begins to hatch a plan, and subtly communicates it with Spencer.
Mona:
You know, this space is actually pretty awesome. I'm surprised "A" doesn't have the imagination to see it.
Spencer:
It's a big, ugly room.
Mona:
Okay, but what if... What if we use the staircase to make a grand entrance for Ali to walk down? We think Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard.
Spencer begins to catch on as Mona gestures to some wires and copper pipes.
Spencer:
All right, we could rig a bunch of cameras to go off on a timer as you walk down those steps. It'd be so easy to take all these copper pipes and use them for drapery rods.
Mona:
And we could use old pipes and make beautiful candelabras. And we could hang wire from the ceiling and hang shapes to create some beautiful shadows and silhouettes.
Mona and Spencer smile at each other.
Mona:
That would be A Night At The Opera.
DILAURENTIS HOUSE, MORNING (EXT.)
Alison sneaks out a window again and greets Toby.
Alison:
Jason and dad are gonna be at the station all day dealing with paperwork regarding my exoneration. I can be out for longer.
Toby:
Good. Tanner’s suspicious of Caleb so we have to go to Ezra’s place.
Alison:
Wait, what does Tanner have on Caleb?
Toby:
The rest of the station believes the girls were kidnapped, and the idea of A is finally getting into their heads. But Tanner is convinced Caleb hacked the van system to break them out of police custody.
Alison:
God…
EZRA’S APARTMENT (INT.)
Alison, Toby, Caleb, Noel and Ezra are together, with computers and a board trying to locate the liars and Mona. Alison is on the phone, Ezra goes downstairs to answer a knock on the door.
Alison:
Ok, if your plane lands today, please hurry, I’ve texted you where I am, it’s not too far from Lucky Leon’s. Bye, be safe.
Toby:
Who are you talking to?
Alison:
Help.
Caleb glances at her.
Alison:
Please, it’s not the police.
Ezra arrives from downstairs. He’s panicked.
Ezra:
The police are downstairs. And they want to come up.
Alison:
What?!
Caleb:
They're here for me.
Alison turns to Toby.
Alison:
Well, you're harboring a fugitive. You can't be here when they find him.
Caleb gets up, willing to face the police.
Caleb:
Don't stop looking.
Toby:
Caleb, wait
Alison:
Toby... He's doing the right thing. And we need you on the right side of this, and your boss.
DOLLHOUSE HALLWAYS-NIGHTTIME (INT.)
The power is off again for a temporary amount of time.
Mona is holding a gas mask.
Mona:
A left this in my room.
Emily:
Why would A give you a gas mask?
Mona:
Ali's her favorite. I think after the prom, she's the only one she wants to keep.
Aria:
So our Night At The Opera is going to turn into a scene from Carrie?
Spencer:
No, we're not going to let that happen.
She glances to the direction of the vault
Mona:
I know what you're thinking, Spencer, but I promise you don't have time to make it to that vault.
Spencer:
So have you ever built one?
Mona:
I haven't needed to build one. But I've read about it.
Hanna:
Build what?
Mona:
The stuff Spencer said she needed to decorate. If it delivers, we'll have what we need to build a machine that temporarily shuts off the electricity.
Aria:
How long is “temporarily”?
Mona:
Long enough to get us out of here.
Emily:
Yeah, we can turn off the power, but what about A? And it's her prom. There's no way she's not coming.
Mona:
I hope you're right, Emily. Because like Hanna said, there's five of us and one of her.
DOLLHOUSE MULTIPURPOSE ROOM-NEXT MORNING (INT.)
The liars and Mona step into the room, prom halfway finished.
Speaker (O.S): Good morning. Guten tag. Bom dia. Please find your stations.
They begin to put on an exaggerated performance.
Spencer:
Oh, wow. This is not what I was expecting.
Emily:
So now you're excited? You're actually going to help "A" decorate this place?
Emily slumps in a chair.
Aria:
We can use this to make a curtain for Ali's grand entrance.
Spencer:
Well, you're on your own. Em, we're all in this together. What are you doing?
Emily:
Taking a stand.
Spencer:
By sitting?
Emily:
This isn't a prom. It’s a nightmare. I'm not helping.
Spencer:
Why are you being such a bitch?
Emily:
I'm being a bitch? Take a look around. Why are you making this so easy for A? Oh, my God, drapes! Thanks, A. I'm so excited, I get to have my senior prom in a dungeon!
Spencer:
You know what? Forget it, Emily. I don't need your help.
Spencer walks by and bumps into Emily.
Emily:
You did that on purpose.
Spencer:
Get over yourself.
Aria:
Stop, this is already stressful enough as it is.
Hanna:
Spencer, don't start…
Spencer:
I didn't start anything. The quitter did. That's what you do, isn't it, Emily? You quit things. When things are too much for you, you just throw in the towel. I mean, you quit the swim team. You quit Paige. You even quit Maya.
The security camera focuses in on Spencer and Emily as Mona manages to sneakily get a box of supplies for herself
Emily is “enraged” at the mention of Maya and begins to “fight” Spencer.
Aria:
Guys! You guys! Stop it! Emily... Stop.
Hanna:
Get her off! Stop. Stop!
They are able to get them off each other.
Aria:
You guys, honestly, I cannot handle this. Please, can we not do this to each other?
Emily:
I'm sorry, Spence. Okay, I know this isn't your fault.
Spencer:
Me, too… Look, I'm just trying to make the best of a very bad situation.
Mona:
If you baboons are done fighting, I could use some help over here. Then we can all decorate together.
Fade in, the prom is a bit closer to being complete.
Aria gazes at Mona’s hair, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Alison’s hair.
Aria:
Mo-... Ali, how’d you get your hair back like this?
Mona tries to speak in a casual manner, trying to hide her brokenness.
Mona:
Well, I woke up blonde one day… with a curling iron on my nightstand… doesn't take much to be my perfect self… Ali D…
Spencer:
Well, you weren’t always perfect…
Mona:
I know I’ve been a mean girl Spence, but she’s- I’m trying to be better.
Aria:
It is true, there is that… but back in the day Ali would be pretty inconsistently mean. Like, more mean than usual sometimes, you guys remember, right?
Hanna loosens up
Hanna:
Yeah, like when you and her trashed your dads office! Or when she was apparently redcoat but she also sometimes let anything happen to us?
Spencer:
Hey, we can attribute some of that to A.
Hanna:
Alright, but how about when she snuck around your backyard at night, Spence? Or when Mona was “murdered”, she was smirking at the police announcement and wore a pink dress to her funeral?
Mona is caught a bit off guard.
Mona:
She did that?
She quickly changes herself back to “Alison mode”.
Mona:
I mean, yeah I did that! Who do you think I am?
Spencer:
Well, we can dwell on all that later…
Fade away to…
ROSEWOOD POLICE STATION-AFTERNOON (INT.)
Caleb is on a computer, surrounded by officers, including Tanner.
Toby enters the room.
Toby:
What’s going on?
Tanner:
Don’t worry, Caleb’s not in trouble, yet. He’s gonna try to get that footage of A he’s been trying to look for to prove to us that this is a kidnapping.
Caleb:
We got this. Sometimes a hacker leaves a trail intentionally coded to cover their tracks. It's smoke and mirrors put there to distract you while they're actually... Oh, wow.
Toby:
Did you find something?
Footage of the van crash and A incapacitating the liars before loading them into a car and driving off to another road.
Caleb:
Look at where they’re headed. That’s the direction for lost woods resort. They have to be somewhere nearby.
Tanner:
That place was abandoned sometime last year.
Toby:
The perfect place to hide people. And if not there, somewhere nearby because nobody is going to that resort anymore.
Tanner:
My god it is a kidnapping…
LOST WOODS WOODS RESORT- NIGHTTIME (EXT.)
The deserted hotel is suddenly filled with squad cars.
Tanner and Toby step out. They notice that room 214 is left open, while all the other doors are locked shut.
ROOM 214 (INT.)
The room has monitors set up on the wall opposite to the door.
The officers inch in on them and see that they are playing security footage, but it isn’t live.
Show previous footage of the liars and Mona during “game time” when A was trying to make them recreate the day they first met Alison.
End off with Hanna yelling at the camera “There are 5 of us and 1 of them.”
Freeze frame.
Toby:
What the hell!
Taner:
Look at the date here. This was filmed 2 days ago.
Toby:
We need to clear this hotel, and if it’s empty we need to determine their location as soon as possible.
LOST WOODS RESORT (EXT.)
Seconds later, Tanner and Toby step out.
Tanner:
Everyone, we have a kidnapping on our hands. Search this building inside out and if it’s empty, then we’ll sweep the surrounding area.
Suddenly, 5 non-police cars enter the scene.
Out of them step out the families of the liars and Mona.
ELLA & BYRON MONTGOMERY, VERONICA & PETER HASTINGS, PAM & WAYNE FIELDS, ASHLEY & TOM MARIN, and LEONA & BERTO VANDERWAAL enter the scene, joined by other family members.
Such as MIKE MONTGOMERY, Aria’s brother, and ISABEL & KATE RANDALL, Hanna’s stepmother and stepsister respectively.
Peter:
Tanner!
Tanner:
Everybody, please stay calm.
Ella:
Not now, Tanner, where are our children!
Tanner:
We have been able to confirm a kidnapping-
Veronica:
By whom?
Tanner:
By an unidentified stalker that the girls have been calling A.
Leona:
Impossible, Mona’s being held somewhere with them.
Berto:
She was completely mentally healed, there is no reason to blame her-
Tanner:
We suspect that another person is under the name of A now.
Mike:
Mona is alive, and you guys need to find her, NOW.
Toby:
Everybody, we assure you all that we are doing everything we can to assure that your daughters will be found and brought home safely-
Ashley:
They better be brought back, remember all of this started because you guys falsely accused them of a murder that never happened! And this isn’t even the first time a false accusation has happened!
Tom:
Ashley, please calm down-
Isabel:
Tom, there’s no space to calm down right now.
Byron:
Tell me you have a suspected place where they all might be..
Tanner:
We’re sweeping the lost woods resort right now.
Kate:
And if they aren’t there?
Toby:
We will go to other places too.
Wayne:
Then you all better do your jobs.
Pam:
Please, just find them.
ROSEWOOD POLICE STATION (INT.)
Alison, Noel and Caleb are sitting outside a questioning room.
Noel:
Do they really expect us to just sit here?
Caleb:
Well, if we try to keep meddling, we’ll just get in more trouble. I mean, it’s a miracle that Tanner finally realized that A kidnapped our friends.
Alison is silent, apprehensive about something, and is constantly checking her phone.
Caleb looks at her, concerned.
Caleb:
What’s the deal?
Alison:
Nothing, it’s…. Nothing, I just can’t seem to reach this person.
Caleb:
The so-called “help” you were talking to? Y’know right before the police showed up?
Alison laughs and rolls her eyes.
Alison:
Hey, I have no clue how the hell the police showed up the same second okay?
And hey, you’re not in trouble anymore anyway.
Caleb smiles.
Caleb:
So, who were you calling anyway?
Alison hesitates, and glances at Noel. They both are unsure of what to tell Caleb. Then suddenly someone approaches them. Noel glances at them.
Noel:
Hey, look who made it.
Alison:
Oh my god, I didn’t realize you were already here.
Caleb realizes who this person is and his eyes widen.
Caleb:
No way… how is this possible…
Ezra, Jason and Kenneth step into the scene and freeze when they see this person.
Jason:
What the hell…
Noel and Alison get up to greet this person. Alison hugs them. Noel pats them on the back.
Alison:
I’m so happy you’re here… I know how hard it must’ve been.
The others look on in surprise.
The person Alison has invited to Rosewood is MAYA ST. GERMAIN, long believed to have been killed after her “dead body” and supposed killer were discovered the previous year.
Maya looks nervously at the others, and Alison holds her hand. Noel rubs her back in a reassuring way.
Maya:
Look, I’m here to help. But I know I have some explaining to do.
DOLLHOUSE-MULTIPURPOSE ROOM (INT.)
The prom is fully set up, lights, music, traps and all. Mannequins are set up all over to imitate a room full of people.
The liars are dressed in gowns, waiting for Mona to arrive as Alison.
Aria has something on her mind.
Aria:
Hey, Spencer. Remember when we were talking about A’s name, how maybe it’s Courtney?
The others remember and shift their focus onto Spencer.
Spencer:
Oh my god, yeah. The name was listed as Courtney D. I think that D. might stand for Dilaurentis. I think that Courtney Dilaurentis, whoever that is, is A’s real name. Or at least a name that means a lot to her.
Emily:
But who in Alison’s family could know and hate us enough to want to do any of this to us?
Speaker (O.S):
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your prom queen, Alison Dilaurentis!
Stock audio of applause and cheers is played from the speakers as the doors swing open, and Mona enters the scene, in a pink gown, and an Alison mask.
The liars meet with Mona as she descends the staircase.
The group then looks out to the mannequins in the room.
Spencer:
Courtney... we have something for you. You should be standing up here.
Emily:
It's what you want, isn't it? This is your prom, Courtney.
Amongst the group of mannequins, someone moves in on the group. It’s A. She has a dark brunette wig on, and is wearing a red gown. And just like Mona, she has an Alison mask on.
Spencer:
Wait for it…
Once A is close enough, Aria presses a button that triggers the machine Spencer and Mona put together. It explodes and causes the electricity to go out.
Spencer:
Now! Let's go!
Mona rips off her Alison mask and they all bolt for the exit, led by Mona.
Mona:
Let's get the hell out of here!
DOLLHOUSE EXIT (EXT.)
The group finally gets out of the dollhouse, throwing open the gates, letting fresh air and moonlight hit their faces.
They all let out heavy breaths. Exhausted, but also exhilarated.
Spencer:
Oh my god!
Aria:
Did we do it? Are we out?
They smile for a bit, but Emily quickly realizes something.
Emily:
Guys… we’re still trapped.
An electric fence surrounds the exit area. A forest is what’s beyond the fence. The electricity comes back on, and they all realize they’re trapped.
A sign on the fence read:
“DANGER! 10,000 VOLTS!”
Hanna:
No…
Spencer:
Wait, it’s not over yet. Mona, didn’t you say that there was a vault in this place that you didn’t have the time to enter?
Mona:
There might be nothing there though!
Aria:
Well. we have to take every chance, right?
Hanna:
Guys, let’s run!
DOLLHOUSE VAULT (INT.)
The group bolts to the vault of the dollhouse and they throw open the double doors.
They see the vault does not contain an exit, but it does contain A’s lair.
It is full of memorabilia of the liars, Alison, and Alison's family.
There’s a projector, and it plays an old home video. It shows Alison’s mother, JESSICA DILAURENTIS. They’re at a barn.
Jessica:
C’mon kids, come here!
Two young girls run to the camera.
Spencer:
Guys, this is Ali when she was younger.
The group's eyes widen as they realize something.
The young girls look exactly alike.
Jessica:
Say hi to the camera!
The twins stand in front of the camera, their faces on full display.
Emily:
Oh my god… guys, Alison is a twin!
Aria:
So this is Courtney? She’s Alison’s evil twin?
Mona:
Or maybe Alison is Courtney’s evil twin?
Suddenly, A, still in her wig, mask, and gown, appears in the room.
The group screams and they back up as A approaches them.
Aria:
Courtney?
Hanna:
Courtney please take off your mask.
Mona:
Courtney, you don’t have to hurt us!
A looks around the room. She takes off her brunette wig, revealing long blonde curls.
The group hold each other and look tense as A begins to take off her mask. A reveals her face to the group, revealing that she, Courtney Dilaurentis, isn’t Courtney at all. She’s actually ALISON DILAURENTIS.
Alison:
Did you miss me?
She chuckles and smirks, as the others look on horrified.
Cut to black.
ROSEWOOD POLICE STATION (INT.)
Come back to Maya, who is taken into a questioning room.
“Alison” is left to confront the others.
Kenneth:
Alison, what is all this? What have you known about Maya?
The others look at “Alison”, anxious to listen to her.
Alison:
I’m gonna have to talk to the police about all this. Because Maya is one of the few people who know my real name.
Everyone else's eyes grow wide, except for Noel, who is fully aware of what she’s talking about.
Jason:
What do you mean, “real name” ?
“Alison” takes a deep breath.
Alison:
My real name is Courtney Dilaurentis.
