Chapter 1: I'm Trying Not To Tell You (But I Want To)

Chapter Text

Wednesday has always hated surprises. And yet, she loves mysteries. A paradox she is fully aware of.

So why, pray tell, does Wednesday agree to go on a date with Tyler? Because he is a mystery himself. For some reason, he likes her. And for the life of her, she could not figure out why.

Wednesday was not a nice girl, not nearly nice enough for Tyler.

(She wasn't worthy of him, he was too good, a traitorous fragment of her brain would say.)

She is cruel, where he is kind. She is selfish and he selfless. Why would such a good and kind boy like a terribly cruel girl? It made no sense. And yet here they were, a kind boy, and cruel girl. On a picnic-date.

He'd had her close her eyes, and covered them. Leading her into the mausoleum and further to the crypt inside, before uncovering her eyes. And when she opens them, its the most romantic scene she's ever laid eyes on.

Fairy-lights lining the walls and pillars, hanging from the ceiling and laying over the sarcophagus. And creating a focal point for her eyes to follow, a picnic basket, a blanket, and a projector. She is in awe of this, outwardly she shows nothing.

It's perfect. And it scares her how well he knows her. But everything -- the location, the lights, the movie, and that kiss. She tried to convince Tyler that nothing good will come of this, she's a terrible person, a cruel, cruel girl. And maybe it was a last ditch effort, but for the life of her she can't figure out who she was trying to dissuade : Tyler, or herself.

                    -------------------------------

It's only a few days later that it all crumbles down. Wednesday learns that she's not as cruel as she thought. She learns just how much of a fool she can be.

She's the selfless one, and Tyler the selfish. She'd tried so very hard to be cruel and unsociable, hoping it would steer her away from being like her mother. Following in her footsteps and falling in lo- .... falling for someone while at Nevermore? No. Falling for a Normie outside of the school while still going there? Maybe?

But it turns out he wasn't as normal as she'd thought.

She still likes Tyler though. She isn't happy about it. She feels like the protagonist of a romance novel, and hates it. Hates him, hates her feelings, hates him for causing these feeling... she just hates it all. But oh, oh how she loves it at the same time.

What delicious irony these feelings are.
