Link rolled the red fruit in his hands as it babbled and wobbled as if it were alive. For all he knew the fabled Jabbernut could be a nut in name alone. He might be eating some tiny helper around this garden!
Link looked up uneasily, but none of the Picori– oh, no that’s right, the Minish– none of the Minish seemed to be bothered with him hanging out in this corner unsupervised, even with how much the silly little thing jiggled and bobbled.
If Link ignored the way it wobbled and babbled, it looked and felt more like a fruit, so maybe it was like a stonefruit. He heard they had nut seeds in the middle. It looked kind of like a cherry, so maybe that's what it was but teeny tiny so Minish could eat them easily. Then again, maybe it was some helpful bug or some similar living thing with how it squirmed in his hands.
He hesitated and looked up at Ezlo.
The bird nightcap squawked and turned his beak up as if he had gotten offended. “Do not look at me like that, kid. You want to communicate with the Minish, right? So then you can fix swords and break curses? Then go ahead and eat it already!”
Link nodded, put on his brave face, and popped the weird fruit in his mouth, green stem and all. As soon as he took one bite, the fruit gushed juice that tasted tangy and almost too sweet, and felt goopy and mushy. It jiggled like a living jello on his tongue and hit the back of his throat as he bit into it again to try and make it a more manageable size to eat. He choked for a second before he swallowed it all. He gagged for a few seconds after and wished the sensation of the terrible Jabbernut would disappear faster.
It took a moment, but Link gathered himself and brushed the tears of discomfort away from his face. That was a nasty experience, but he shouldn’t have to do it again.
Ezlo babbled something from atop his head that sounded familiar, but Link really couldn't pick out any words. Maybe the weird hat was trying to speak the language similar to Minish that he claimed to know.
Link chuckled and shook his head. Whatever the silly bird spoke, it was not similar enough since he couldn’t understand it with the Jabbernut. He grinned and ran towards the nearest Minish, practically buzzing with excitement. Now that he had eaten the Jabbernut and could understand the Minish, he could get information on how to forge the sword back together!
