Work Text:
Jamie sat on the chair, at a table, in a room full of people. They were trying to decide their next move. They HAD to stop British, to overthrow them. The British had too much power over them and brought too much pain to them. She thought about the options. Compromise or fight. Possible peaceful conversation or bloodshed. Oh, of course she'd choose the fucking compromise! She does not want to watch the dead bodies lying on the roads again! She does not want to see all the blood and hear all those screams and guns firing! But.. her heart told her "Fight. Be as brave as your wife. Remember how she was. Even if like her, you'll end up in prison, at least you'll be considered a brave hero." She didn't even realize she said that they should choose compromise out loud. Her mind was elsewhere. Her wife... Oh, how she loved Aaron! How she adored her!-
Suddenly a knock took her out of her mind. She shot her head up and towards the door which revealed a tall silhouette of a soldier. He spoke:
- Mrs. Madison. Please, come with me. Take your stuff, this might take a while...
Come with him? Why? And what might take a while? She didn't know but she did as she was told. She got up from her seat and went outside, into the hallway. She didn't bring anything with her, what was she supposed to take to a meeting except for her own mind? Well, even without that it'd be the same, her mind was too occupied with worry for her wife. She hasn't seen Aaron for too long, she was imprisoned for some protests. She was already told before that Aaron got sick in the prison and was taken to the hospital but they didn't let her see her. Gods, that made her so mad. The moment she closed the door, she heard from the soldier:
- Mrs. You're going to see your wife at the hospital.
"Finally. Aaron..." She thought "But why just now?! What's happening?". She didn't even notice when she was already in the hospital's hallway, dr. Nelson walked up to her. He lead her towards the sterile room in silence, she knew what he wanted to say. She didn't hear his words but she knew what was happening. When she walked into the room, she heard someone coughing and the familiar voice she, oh, so loved:
- Jamie! - Aaron said, getting up from the hospital's bed and immediately running towards Jamie, hugging her tightly.
- Oh, my love... How are you feeling now? - Jamie asked her.
- I'm feeling better now that you're finally with me... I have so much to tell you! So take my hand and take me outside, it's getting dark again... Let's watch the sky together...
- Honey, it's not a good idea for you to go outside now, you might get sick again, or even get worse...- Jamie tried to protest. She didn't want to let her lover to get sick again, to lose her again. But Aaron didn't care about the protest. She gripped Jamie's wrist and led her outside. The sky was indeed dark already, wave of stars covering it. Jamie sighed - The british might still be out here somewhere...
- Oh, forget them! - Aaron said. She was way too joyful, she was also talking too much. Something was off... - I still believe in our future, even with them around! Why care about them? We'll surely get rid of them one day! The better future is still before us, not just before the world, but also before Jamie and Aaron, and our dear daughter... While I was stuck in that hospital, I sketched my dreamt future on a tissue... I dreamt that one day, it all would just come true... And now I'm sure, it one day will!
- Show. - Jamie said. She wasn't the one to speak too much, often she even spoke less than Aaron. This conversation isn't the best example, Aaron was never speaking so much in her life... - Show me the tissue, please...
And just as Aaron was about to take out the tissue and hand it to Jamie... Hamilton shouted. Jamie shot her head up, she was back in the meeting room... She quickly looked around but there were no signs of Aaron. She realized, she was daydreaming.
- Jamie! Have you forgotten what they did to Aaron?!
"What they did to Aaron". Those words echoed in Jamie's mind. If not the British, Aaron would be attending the meeting. The meeting that lasted for the next few hours. Finally they agreed to the compromise. This meant no more bloodshed. No more deaths... Finally safety for Jamie's family!
After the meeting, Jamie went home by her legs. She didn't feel like driving her car to and from the meeting. While on the way back, she walked past a graveyard and stopped. She thought for a moment, considering her options before continuing to walk, this time towards the graveyard. She walked the entire time and suddenly stopped before a grave, sighing.
