Chapter Text

Raindrops clattered against the window of Noelle’s room. She sat there on the floor, minutes away from passing out. Though she couldn’t sleep. She didn’t wanna imagine what nightmares her brain would force her to star in. Not after what happened today… She thought back to it. Susie had kissed her at the festival…

The moment was amazing. She felt a rush of lesbian panic, adrenaline, and then a crushing fear as she realized her mother was onstage giving a speech right behind her.

If they had just blended into the crowd better, if Carol had gotten more absorbed in her public speaking, maybe she wouldn’t have noticed… But no. The towering suit-clad Doe’s eyes just had to drift to her daughter making out with the local orphan.

Carol, being forced to finish her speech even with her anger, had given the two a chance to perhaps vacate and hide away at Kris’s house. Figure out what the hell to do next… But they had been cornered on their way out.

Carol had yelled, threatened to have Susie transferred, and Noelle pulled out of school… One of which she followed up on. Noelle hadn’t left the house since the festival. It had been a week since then…

Carol giving her worksheets, some homeschooling crap from the government… Forcing her to stay in the house, not even allowing her to go out to the diner or the park. Hell, she didn’t even allow Berdly over. Berdly. That’s how she knew she was being isolated.

And even if she could, she was too scared to leave the house. She knew if Susie were seen with her again, her mother would have her run out of town or transferred to another school or worse.

Noelle wondered what the outside world thought. Was anyone coming for her? Probably not… No matter how dearly Noelle was loved by the community, her mother was still the mayor, and nobody dared question her. Even if she were to homeschool and isolate her daughter for the rest of her teenage years.

Noelle got up… Thirsty again… She could go downstairs. Carol was asleep, as it was 2:30 in the morning after all. Softly, Noelle stepped down the stairs into the foyer. Her hooves were light against the carpet. She was used to sneaking out… But with the recent events, she now had to sneak around just to get something as simple as a glass of water.

Opening the fridge, Noelle fished the pitcher of fresh water out from behind several bottles of vodka and eggnog. The glass clinking made some noises, and she quickly closed the fridge. It was not enough to wake up the sleeping matriarch, though…

Pouring the glass of water, Noelle’s eyes drifted to the silverware on the kitchen counter. Knives… Spoons… Forks… Knives… Noelle’s mind wandered… When she saw the knife, a thought came into her head. It was a risky one but…

Nobody would know, right…? It would get her out of the hell she had dug herself into… She just had to use her mother’s body as a step stool. Finishing her water, she grabbed the knife. No more hiding. She was sick of being her mother’s perfect little girl

. Noelle walked back up the stairs as softly as she had on the way down. Carol’s bedroom, which she had once shared with Noelle’s father, was at the top of the hall. The door was open… The Mayor had crawled into bed after a long day signing paperwork. Perfect…

The wooden handle of the steak knife felt firm in Noelle’s palm. Carol slept there, still in the suit she had worn all day. Didn’t bother changing out of it when she came home late. But having it drycleaned would be the least of her worries… She wouldn’t get to do even that.

Noelle took one last breath before plunging the knife into her mother’s exposed neck. She quickly yanked it out, the blood from the pierced jugular vein leaking out like a dam bursting. It took Noelle a bit to process what she’d done…

She had just stabbed her fucking mom. In the neck.

Carol darted awake… And the first face she saw was the daughter whom she had tried to isolate from the world. She felt something… a betrayal, perhaps? A remorse? And all she could say… “...Wh..why?”

Noelle Ran. She ran. All the things she had to do to hide this… Disposing of the murder weapon… Changing out of the bloodied clothes… Finding where the hell she would go after this… Why had she followed through on it? Was she stupid? Had she gone insane, like some psycho killer?

A million regrets and questions flashed through Noelle’s mind. And before she had gotten through them all, she was out the door, in one of Dess’s hoodies, crying and running off into the night.
