Chapter Text
3rd Person Pov:
"Alright, now that...should...do it." Douglas says as he finishes resetting Chase's glitch and all the metal objects fall from him.
"You alright?" Skylar asks.
"Yeah. But my back is killing me." Chase answers as he stretches his sore body.
"Sorry to hear it, contest back on!" Kaz announces as the group begins to walk away.
"Ah" Chase hisses in pain and moves his hand to his left side.
"Chase? What is it?" Douglas asks in concern as the others turn back around to see what's going on. Chase pulls his hand away to see it's stained red. He starts feeling dizzy and loses his footing falling to the bottom of his capsule.
"Chase!" Bree yells as she super speeds over to her brother. Their uncle kneels down next to them and turns Chase over to see what happened. He looks at Chase's side to see a screwdriver impaling the bionic teen and blood running down his leg.
"Oh no. When he was glitching a screwdriver must have stabbed him! He probably didn't even feel it with everything else in the room flying at him. Quick we gotta get him down to the infirmary so I can safely extract the screwdriver and stop the bleeding!" Douglas explains.
"Wait we have an infirmary?" Kaz asks and Douglas gives him an incredulous look.
"You guys didn't know that?!" The four teens shrugged. "Well what did you do when you got hurt?"
"Believe of not, none of us have really gotten hurt." Oliver says as Chase groans. "Until now."
"Just, help me get him to the hyperlift!" Douglas exclaims as he puts his hand on Chase's side to keep pressure on it and the bionic teen groans in pain trying to move away from his uncle. Douglas holds him in place, "I know it hurts Chase but you've gotta stay still and let us help you."
"What can I do?" AJ asked.
"Go home AJ, we'll take care of it."
"But I wanna help!"
"Not now AJ! You've helped enough. We can handle this. I'll let you know when we're finished ok?" Douglas, Bree, and Oliver carefully pick Chase up and carry him to the Hyperlift. "Alright I have to keep pressure on his wound, Oliver do your best to keep him as still as possible while keeping him upright. Bree, keep him awake until we can get a better look at his wound. Kaz, Skylar, go to the hospital and get some blood bags for him. His blood type is O+." The team does as they're told. Chase's eyes start to close and Bree lightly pats his cheek as they ride the hyperlift.
"Hey Chase come on stay awake. We're gonna get you fixed up but you gotta stay with us."
The hyperlift doors open and Douglas leads them through one of the false walls to the infirmary and they lay Chase on the bed. Kaz and Skylar speed in a few moments later with multiple blood bags in their hands.
"Okay Oliver or Kaz, one of you needs to give me a hand and the rest of you need to stay out of the way." Douglas commands.
"I'll stay." Oliver says as he puts on a pair of surgical gloves. The others reluctantly return upstairs waiting to hear of their teammate.
Time skip
Douglas and Oliver exit out of the hyperlift as Bree, Kaz, and Skylar stand to meet them.
"How is he?" Bree asked anxiously.
"He's stable and resting. He had some blood loss but nothing too severe, luckily." Douglas responds as the team let's out a sigh of relief.
"When can we see him?" Kaz asks.
"Well, he's asleep right now but you guys can visit whenever he wakes up. Only one at a time though." Bree starts walking towards the hyperlift. "Bree he's not awake yet."
"I know, I just wanna sit with him if that's okay." Douglas nods as she makes her way down to the infirmary. She walks in to see her brother lying on the hospital bed looking very pale. She takes a deep breath as she watches the steady rise and fall of the of his chest. She takes the seat next to him and gently takes his hand in her own. She sits quietly watching her brother sleep for awhile until he starts to stir. When Chase opens his eyes his gaze falls on her and she smiles. "Hey Chasey, how're you feeling?" He groans and quietly responds,
"A little sore. What happened?"
"A 10 year old hacked your chip which made your magnetism app glitch and you met the wrong end of a screwdriver."
"Ah that's right." He hisses in pain and Bree frowns.
"Hey, you okay?" She asks in concern.
"Yeah. It's just- ah- it's just my side."
"Let me go get Douglas." She says as she starts to stand.
"No. It's ok. Could you just keep me company for a little while?" Bree looks at her brother and he seems so innocent and young. She nods and sits back down.
"You know... you're not really allowed to get seriously hurt. That was kind of the deal when we left home." She says with a wry grin. He chuckles.
"I try my best but it's kind of an occupational hazard."
"Getting cyber hacked by a 4th grader isn't exactly in the job description."
"In all fairness, Leo used to get us hurt all the time. Remember the lemp?" He rebuts.
"Or when he turned Eddie evil... well, eviler."
"Or when he let the prehistoric, poisonous spider loose." The siblings laughed recalling their younger brother's antics. "Where is AJ anyway?" Chase asked in a raspy voice.
"Douglas told him to go home when we brought you down to the infirmary. He seemed pretty upset." He nods.
"I hope he wasn't too hard on him. He didn't mean for me to get hurt."
"I think Douglas was more concerned about saving your life and whether he meant it or not, you did get hurt... badly. And if your capsule didn't reset your chip things could have ended much worse."
"But they didn't. We've always had a knack for getting into trouble, and AJ is just a kid. Maybe he just needs some good influences."
"You mean us?" Chase shrugs and cringes in pain slightly.
"He did hack his way into mission command and my chip. That's pretty impressive." Bree nods and gives his hand a gentle squeeze.
"You should get some rest. I let the others know that you were up and talking and I'll be back down later." She squeezes his hand once more and stands to leave.
"Hey did anyone ever win the contest?"
"Ha Not yet, Kaz and Skylar are still in the running though. I've been trying to force him to use his powers by terrorizing him."
"Maybe instead of terrorizing him you need to outsmart him. Don't forget, cleverness always wins." He grins.
"Hmm maybe you're right." She smiles softly as he sees her younger brother dozing off. "Get some sleep Chasey." And she walks back upstairs.
Time Skip
After a few more hours of rest, Chase is sitting up at the cyber desk working -against the wishes of his uncle and sister who felt that he should stay on bed rest for a few days. He looks up from his laptop.
"I know you're here." He says before AJ pops up from behind one of the cyber desks.
"Hi Chase."
"What's the matter? Couldn't kill me the first time? Came back to finish the job."
"No... I was just trying to show you what I could do. I didn't mean for all that to happen."
"Yeah well, that's the reason I didn't want you around here in the first place."
"I know! And I promise I won't come back. It's obvious I'm not ready to be part of the team." AJ says defeated and begins to leave. Chase thinks for a moment.
"Wait." He says as he turns in his chair and AJ faces him. "You getting in here, tapping into my chip, that's pretty impressive. And not just for a 10 year old."
"Really?" AJ asked hopefully.
"Yeah. You just think you know a little bit more than you actually do. And I can kinda, barely, not really relate to that." He shrugs.
"So, are you saying I'm part of the team?!"
"Ha Ha Ha No! But if you wanted to come by, you know, occasionally... I won't keep you out."
"Thanks Chase." He smiles. "But for whats it's worth -ha- you wouldn't be able to anyway.... and Chase I really am sorry."
"It's okay. I know you didn't mean to. Just don't try hacking my chip again, alright?"
"Okay. See you later Chase." AJ leaves as Chase smiles and turns back to his work. He continues for a while until Douglas eventually interrupts him, forcing him back into bed to get the rest he needs.
