A Gift of Hope

Summary:

She could've chose life. However she truly felt like it was her time. That doesn't mean she wasn't gonna ask about her other options. It just so happened that one of those options was gifting her memories to someone else who could use them to better everyone else around them?

She really hoped that 11 year old Harry Potter could use the memory she had of reading his books to fix things for the better. She guessed she had some thing to look forward to watching once she moved into the beyond.

*A harry potter canon divergent, rewrite.*

Notes:

Hi, this is not the usual fandom I write for.

However this idea just wouldn't leave my head. I've had it for years and finally i'm just gonna write it all out. A rewrite of sorts of the hp series. With more of a focus on found family and questioning the world in which we live in.

I hope everyone enjoys it.

Chapter 1: The beginning

Chapter Text

“What is it you wish?”

“To give him a chance”

Harry Potter woke up to the sound of someone knocking obnoxiously on his cupboard door

“Up! Get up! Now.” Harry’s Aunt Petunia shrieked. “I need everything to be perfect for my little Dudley's birthday.”

Sighing Harry sat up and grabbed his glasses, how could he forget about his darling cousin's birthday. Looking around he got the sudden feeling of déjà vu. Shrugging it off he clamored out of the cupboard and walked into the kitchen.

Petunia frowned at him before pointing it to the stove. “You can finish breakfast, don't burn anything and maybe you can have some toast.”

Harry nodded before moving on to his task. His stomach was grumbling, he hoped he could have two pieces. As he fried the bacon he just couldn't shake the feeling like he had done this before. Which don’t get him wrong, he's cooked breakfast at least three times this week. Just something about today felt weird.

The day went on as usual, with Dudley storming downstairs and complaining that he didn't have enough presents. Harry rolled his eyes as he nibbled on his toast. The one big shock of the day was the fact that he did get to go to the zoo. Everything about that had been rather fun too. He had even gotten a nice lemon lolly.

Of course something odd had to happen once they reached the reptile exhibit. After watching Dudley and his friend finally move on after tapping on the glass incessantly for two minutes, Harry decided to go and take a look. It was a python, something about this whole thing struck Harry as familiar. He didn't particularly know why though.

Once he started the conversation with the python, who had never been to Brazil, Harry got a weird feeling. While part of them wanted to continue to talk to the python, another part was screaming at him to walk away. He decided to trust his gut and simply wave goodbye to the snake and walk away. Which ended up being a good thing because at that moment Dudley had rushed over with his friend to see the snake moving. If Harry had stayed there, he was sure Dudley would've pushed him to the ground.

The rest of the day remained incident free. Something about that felt rather odd, as his aunt and uncle hadn't yelled at him once. As soon as they got home, however, he was sent to his cupboard for the rest of the evening. Harry for once didn't mind as he felt rather tired from the days events. He fell to a quick slumber.

Opening his eyes, Harry looked around and saw that he was in a weird looking bedroom. It had green painted walls and posters of superheroes and different bands he thinks. Sitting up he yawned loudly.

It’s weird being tired in a dream, isn't it?”A voice from behind him.

Harry looked over to see an older looking teenage girl. “Who are you?”

She laughed. “It doesn’t really matter. That sure was one odd snake you saw today?”

Harry felt confused. “I guess?”

“Was probably pretty hard to walk away from?” She asked.

“What do you mean?” Harry asked. This dream felt strange. Who was this girl, and why was she asking him about the snake?

“Why did you walk away Harry?” She pressed again. She had a determined look on her face.

Harry bit his lip. He felt rather nervous but answered honestly. “Because I had a bad feeling.”

The girl smiled widely. “Or a bad memory.”

“Memory? I had never been to the zoo before.” Harry explained. He felt a dip in the bed as the girl sat next to him.

She patted his shoulder. “I never said it was your memory, It was mine.”

“Why would I remember your memories that doesn't make any sense?” Harry questioned.

“Think of it as a gift. My final gift to the world before I pass on.” The girl said wistfully.

Harry felt his stomach drop. “You’ve died?”

The girl nodded, but she wasn't frowning. “Yea, saved this one girl's little sister though. So I’m at peace with it.”

“Oh, why didn't you just pass on already then?” Harry ask, trying not to sound rude.

The girl just laughed again. “Because I wasn't supposed to pass on yet. At least that’s what the guy in the strange cloak said. He offered me a chance to go back. Didn’t quite feel right to do that though. I asked if I had any other options.”

Harry thought this girl was really strange. Who rejects a chance to come back to life “Did you?”

“Mhm, a few options. I decided on this one though.” The girl explained.

“What exactly is this?” Harry questioned.

The girl grabbed Harry’s hand and squeezed it. “I asked if instead of returning to my life, if instead, I could give a better chance of life to another. He agreed. I’m giving you my memories of what's to happen to you, Harry Potter. Mind you, they aren't full memories. It'll just be like a feeling. I urge you to trust that gut kid.”

Harry gulped. “Does that mean I was gonna die?”

The girl shook her head. “No, but just because you were alive doesn't mean you were living. I’m giving you a chance to live your best life. As well as giving you the chance to give everyone around you a chance to do the same.”

“Oh.” Harry mumbled.

“I think it's almost time for you to wake up Harry. The only other advice I have for you, is to question everything. Never take anything that's told to you at face value.” The girl smiled as she went to look at the window. “I think i'm gonna miss this view most of all.”

Harry stood up and went to the window. Looking out he saw mountains. “This is where you lived?”

The girl nodded. “Yeah, as much as I didn't like actually living in Utah, the views were beautiful.”

“You’re from the states?” Harry realized.

“I was.” The girl smiled.

Harry nodded. “Ok, can I ask your name again?”

“I guess, It’s Casey.” Casey laughed lightly. She looked and saw the sun rising behind the mountains. “I hope you live the best life Harry James Potter. Now wake up.”

Harry Potter immediately set up in his bed, breathing heavily. Looking around, nothing felt different. He also didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. The only thing telling him that his dream wasn't just a dream was the fuzzy feeling in his gut, and the burning of his scar.
