"Clark! Where are you," Kara's voice rang out from the entrance to his antarctic base.
He pinched the bridge of his nose. She had that tone to her voice that meant she wanted something from him.
"I'm right here," he said, turning around from the computer in the center of the main room. "There's no need to yell."
"Oh there you are," she replied like he hadn't been easy to spot.
She came across the room and hugged him. He of course hugged her back but he was suspicious. She was being unusually affectionate. Which always meant that she wanted something. Though he had no idea what.
"I wasn't expecting you," Clark said, when she finally released him. "Or else I would have made sure to bring some of those cookies you like from Ma."
Kara stepped further back from him.
"Oh that's too sweet of you. But I really don't plan on staying long. I just have a teeny tiny favor to ask of you."
There it was. Not much for beating around the bush for Kara. But it did at least make things a bit easier for him.
"What do you need?" he asked, really hoping it would be something easy for him to deal with.
"Can you watch my dog?" she asked with a disarming smile on her face. "I'm heading off planet for a bit and I just don't feel comfortable leaving him with anyone else."
"Your dog?"
"Yes, my dog."
"That's all? You want me to watch your dog for a bit while you travel?"
"Yes," she said, pulling the word out.
"Of course I will."
"Great! Krypto!"
She called out and a white dog came bounding in then tackled Clark to the ground.
"He comes when you whistle," Kara called as she waled out.
