“Write from the perspective of a mouse in a cupboard/ cabinet”

My small body moves with caution, one wrong step and my life could be easily ended. From inside the cabinet I tentatively wait for the home dwellers to vacate. The humans here fascinate me, with their boisterous laughter and strong cooking. I from above, dangerously leaning closer and closer to the cupboard door, it takes everything in me to not open the door and seize a glimpse at the humans. But I know better, I can only stay in this relative safety and listen. I hear the rhythmic ‘tmp’ ‘tmp’ ‘tmp’ of a knife impacting on a cutting board, the gentle buzz of the refrigerator and the giggling of a child. This anxiety in waiting is tearing me apart, the danger of it all, one wrong move and it's over. As time ticks on it's not only the dread tearing me apart, but the rumbling of my stomach. But I still cannot leave as I also hear the rumbling booming voice of the humans just a cabinet door away.

Notes:

I detest rodents.
