Chapter Text
Wednesday has arrived at Nevermore after the summer break, and she is unpacking her suitcases. It’s been a while since she got here, and now it’s almost afternoon.
Like she has always done, she is sticking to her side of the room, the one in black and white, but from time to time, she reluctantly glances at the other side of the room, Enid’s side, who still hasn’t arrived. She has always thought it seemed like a unicorn vomited on her side, but now it didn’t seem that horrible. She feels like things had changed between her and Enid after the hug, her first true hug, the first time she closed her eyes while being that close to someone just because she trusted her, but she isn’t able to explain how. She just feels… different around Enid, and she has missed her a lot.
She hears a little crack outside the door of the room, and that makes her hope her friend is there, just about to open the door. The door finally opens, after some lingering, and Enid’s figure makes its way into the room.
“Howdy roomie!”
Wednesday almost smiles, but she controls herself and stops it just in time to shape a small smirk only Enid could perceive behind her dark eyes.
“Hello Enid, I am pleased to see you.”
“Ooohhh so things have really changed, huh?” She speaks in a playful tone. She seems different, Wednesday thinks. “I’m happy to see you too, Wends”
Wednesday turns around, the same way she always does when she gets too personal with someone, but she turns back around and sees Enid staring at her in a way she can’t quite decode. It seems… admiration?
Enid sits on her bed, with her side of the room being completely colourless for once, while Wednesday is standing in the very middle of the room.
She taps the side of her bed twice, just the space near her, implying an invitation for Wednesday to come and sit by her side, and, to Enid’s surprise, she pursues it. She even initiates a conversation, and that's because of the talk she had with Thing before.
Thing insisted that the goth missed Enid, and she started denying it, but ended up accepting the truth. The dismembered hand tried to convince the raven to be more open about her feelings, at least to her friend, because he knows that Enid would very much appreciate that type of feedback from Wednesday.
“Um… How was your summer vacation? Did you participate in any… enjoyable activities?”
Enid smiles widely, almost tearing up a bit.
“Oh, Wednesday, I missed you so much. Never change” She extends her arms, like asking for permission for a hug.
“You have seven seconds.”
They hug for exactly seven seconds, and the werewolf enjoys every second of it. Wednesday, even though she would deny it, did enjoy it quite a bit, too.
The blonde used these few seconds to do something involuntarily, but that her body simply did. She smelled Wednesday. The scent of ink, crunched autumn leaves, and ashes calmed her down, and even though it wasn't her intention to do that, she was glad she did.
Enid thought Wednesday didn't realize that she smelled her, but oh, yes she did. The raven didn't want to say anything, though – she didn't want to embarrass her roommate or something alike. It's not because she liked it, not at all.
“Please do not consider this to be a usual occurrence, but I was not going to accept being the cause of your distress.”
Enid smiles at Wednesday softly, blushing imperceptibly, and Wednesday feels something impossible to describe. Is it appreciation? Admiration? The Addams doesn't know, but she does know she likes the feeling.
Thing hops on Enid’s bed, and Enid smiles widely.
“Thing! Well hello, how are you?”
Thing starts tapping on the bed and communicating with Enid, explaining how the summer break was at the Addams’ house. Wednesday gets up and continues unpackaging everything, even doing some of Enid's work, including the colourful parts, even if she’s normally disgusted by them. She takes her time with each of Enid’s belongings, positioning them where she knows they always are.
“Wends! Did you unpack my stuff?” The werewolf realizes what Wednesday has done. She didn’t see it while she was involved in a passionate conversation with Thing. “Why did you do that? You didn’t have to.”
“Oh, I just thought it would be a nice gesture to do that, since you’ve just arrived and you must be tired.”
“You even touched the colourful stuff!” Enid can’t believe this. She is thankful for the raven to have done this for her, but she doesn’t understand why, or how.
“Yes, it was not that big of a deal. Not if they belong to you.”
That really does leave her puzzled.
It’s the first day of school. Wednesday and Enid decided to go together to the first period since they agreed on spending more time with the two of them alone, even though it was obviously Enid’s idea and the psychic just went along with it. Lately, she has started doing that more often, and she doesn’t find it as horrifying as she thought it was when it’s Enid who she does that with.
Yesterday, she talked to Thing about how she doesn’t really understand how she feels about the blonde.
Everything she does or owns has always disgusted her fondly. Listening to pop music, using social media, being surrounded by cheerful colours… Those are just tiny examples of the whole thing. But when the blonde does it, it seems it doesn't bother her that much.
She doesn’t know why that is, she doesn’t even know why Enid talks to her, why she bothers dealing with a girl who will never succumb to the manipulative tool of emotions, which are her main topic when she opens her mouth.
She still remembers when the werewolf first opened up to her and spoke about her feelings. She was surprised, because she didn’t really hate it. Was she really changing because of a stupid dog? Her old self would be highly disappointed, but her present self isn’t, and that drives her wild. She really enjoys her friend’s presence, and she can’t even figure out why.
That is what she has been thinking the whole walk to their first class while walking right besides Enid, who is all excited taking part of a gossip conversation with Yoko that has to do with someone Wednesday has never met; a certain Bruno, it seems; who is a werewolf. Enid is really thrilled, and wants to meet him right away. The psychic doesn’t know why, but she just has a bad feeling about all this.
When they arrive at class, they see him. Flawless skin sucked into his cheekbone; a sharp, strong jaw, really suitable for a werewolf; and his fangs, just right for the mating ritual of… Wait, why is she thinking about mating rituals?
Anyways, he seems latino, just like her, but he has curly, voluminous, dark hair. When he looks at her, right in the eyes, she deciphers a look of superiority in his eyes; he is defying her, and he is wrong if he thinks she won’t take the challenge. She doesn’t yet know what the challenge is, actually, but she doesn’t care; she will beat him.
“Wednesday.”
She hears a distant voice, out in the wild, out of her mind.
“Wednesday!”
She hears it, stronger this time, demanding, and feels drawn to it. The voice is not the same one as the first she heard. It immediately gets her attention, even though she doesn’t know whose voice was which.
When she turns her head to where the voice proceeded, she finds Enid and Yoko in front of her.
“Finally! Where do you want to sit, Wends?”
“Oh, wherever you’d like, but far away from that guy, I don’t like him. He's staring at me.”
“Who, Bruno? He’s nice! He’s a werewolf, just like me. I think he’ll help me fit in. Come on, you have to meet him, you’ll see there’s nothing to worry about.”
“You’ve already met him?” Wednesday talks with disdain.
“Yes, come on, he’s nice!”
Enid carries Wednesday, grabbing her by the arm, and the raven protests, but lets her do.
Once they find themselves in front of Bruno, the werewolf who Enid and Yoko were talking about before, she immediately distrusts the guy.
“Hey Bruno, I wanted you to meet Wednesday, my roommate.” Bruno watches closely Wednesday, who looks at him with murderous eyes. “Wednesday, this is Bruno.”
“Hey, Wednesday; nice to meet you.”
“Yes, well, nice to meet you too; though I can’t say I’m particularly impressed. Honestly, for a werewolf, you’re tiny, aren’t you? You clearly belong at the bottom of the hierarchy; absolutely deceiving.”
Enid looks at her with angry eyes, but Bruno laughs it off.
The raven doesn’t know what got into her, but she needs to slowly peel off that guy’s skin and drown him in a tank with piranhas. Maybe that would satisfy her. She just doesn’t want him near her wo-; Enid, near Enid. He seems like a threat.
“Yes, I’m actually on the bottom of my pack’s hierarchy, but that’s okay. I don’t really care, everyone is nice to me. I have one job, and I do it. Someone has to be at the bottom, right?”
Wednesday glares at him with a deadly stare. She simply distances herself from Bruno and leaves to the other side of the class, sitting at the most distant table. Enid stays with Bruno, probably apologizing for her friend’s behaviour.
The raven couldn’t be more pissed off, so she starts thinking about plans to murder him… Or maybe just hurt him, because Enid wouldn’t approve of a death.
