Chapter 1: red velvet

Chapter Text

Something was wrong.

Every time he laid eyes on them,, he couldn’t muster quite his normal amount of hatred.

Stuck feeling flustered and weak, insults ending before they even began.

He felt himself stumble backwards as an overly sweet cake roll grinned as they got up into his face, making him feel all swirly inside and having to shove such un-shrimpo-like emotions down into a sea of rage,, in a futile attempt to not show his inner weakness to its catalyst.

“ Shrimpo! “

Cosmo smiled into shrimpo’s face as he grasped his sides, to steady himself after dashing over so quickly.

“ You’ve seemed to be having a hard time lately,, “

Shrimpo gave him a look and the pastry rephrased slightly,

“ with your lines,, and the show i mean-

a- anyway,, I baked you these! “

Cosmo then pulled out a small tin,

“ They’re cookies,, red velvet..

It seemed like something you might like so.. “

Damn him, he was right.

The baker had looked away sheepishly and taken a few steps back. Shrimpo took the cookie tin (with less force than he normally would)

“ YOU’RE TOO NICE. “ felt like the least mean thing to say without directly thanking him, shrimpo thought as he stormed off, trying to hide his inner glee at the fact the reason for his butterflies had even thought of him,, and then went through the effort?!

He didn’t know if he was dreaming, but cod, he didn’t want to wake up!

~~~
But he did.
The cookies were delicious, even if he knew deep down he didn’t deserve such niceties, he deserved whatever he found in the trash. Not this, fresh baked love.
It was disgusting,
no,
He was disgusting.
Shrimpo doesn’t fall in love!
It’s a pointless endeavor that only likable entities should partake in!
Unfortunately, that’s not how love works, and one has no control over how down bad they are for a beaming ray of sunshine such as Cosmo.
Of course, this was all completely in character for one as misfortunate as the proclaimed ‘bully’ of the show.
Cod, he hated this role. If he was anything else he might’ve had a chance. What a laughable, foolish, thought.
He was being silly, Cosmo was just nice, and that was as deep as it went.
“ Too nice to toons like me… “
Shrimpo mumbled to himself as he wondered his way to the projection room for filming. He doubted he’d be needed for awhile after how badly he fumbled the last few times, but it was still worth it to watch.
As long as he didn’t let himself smile fondly when Cosmo was onscreen he’d be safe from whatever wrath the handlers would inflict on him.
Oh, how he HATED being ‘ in character ‘ 24/7 365 even when the children weren’t visiting, and he was alone in his room.
He wondered if one day he might finally crack…
