Chapter Text
A woman sits in a room of white with blood staining her hands. Her lab coat is splattered with red, her face puffy with tears, her hair fraying around her head. A wedding band is slowly rusting on her finger. It wasn’t always rusted. But soon, she gets up and the days pass.
She mourns, she grieves, she cries, she screams. The people around her flinch when they pass her office. They don’t ask questions. Everyone around her knows of her loss, of her sadness, of her anger.
She throws herself into her work until the lives become shared until her home life is non-existent, until the lab becomes her alter and her coffin. Her employees feel her pressure, feel her push until they’re about to break.
The day success comes she smiles for the first time in months. She is the first to draft the advertisements, the first to set up the cameras. Her employees celebrate but she just works harder. It is not over yet.
When the arena is built and the posters plaster the city walls, the woman clutches her wedding band as it shines for the first time in years. She remembers the idea they crafted on their wedding night, the second promise they’d made that day. But she hadn’t completed their mission yet.
It had only just begun.
