Work Text:

"Hey Ranboo?" Tubbo ask, breaking the silence for the 2nd time tonight. It's not like it's a bad thing, it just startled him a bit.

Both of them where on top of the completed mansion, clear night as stars and moon shine brightly down on them. Tubbo was in their regular outfit of a heavy duty leather coat with fluffy fur lining the inside of the hood and sleeves. His hair was parted, and even though the shorter boy was still staring straight into the sky, Ranboo gave him their full attention.

Dirty blonde eyelashes gave away to the dyed nature of the rest of the goat hybrid's hair, but it still made zero sense to Ranboo how his legs were this rich brown color. He's sure Tubbo mentioned it before, but with the state of their deteriorating mind, many tidbits of information were lost to time.

His sure he has it down somewhere though, because they always made it a habit to write down their favorite Tubbo facts.

"Yeah Tubbo?" They finally answer back, still trying to catch a glimpse of those pale blue eyes. Something he's always tried to do, even back when he couldn't look them in the eyes.

"You think.. maybe in another universe... we could've gotten married the right way?" Tubbo asked, tone as soft as fresh snow.

At that, Ranboo blinks. Still, they think about it, but draw a blank.

"The right way?"

Suddenly Ranboo was painfully aware of the two rings decorating his hand and horn respectively. He hardly even feels them anymore, or even cares about being seen in them, but he still understands the circumstances of both.

The one on his horn, a single strand of gold, being something he crafted just for the sake of it. They make marry jokes all the time, have a literally kid together, and yeah, Ranboo wants Tubbo in his life for as long as possible. When Tubbo asked if they wanted to get married, and Ranboo lost the coin flip, rings were the natural next step, no matter how nervous they were.

They love each other, and Ranboo wasn't oblivious enough to not register just how much they want Tubbo, but like always, Ranboo was willing to take any scraps of affection Tubbo threw his way. He was a hopeless romantic, after all.

However, Ranboo didn't realize how absolutely screwed he was until he saw Tubbo crying. As awful as that sounds.

You would think the romantic in him would realize it with a sunset backdrop, where Tubbo is smiling or laughing or even being a good father to Michael. Where the wind is sweeping his bangs away or him giving a sleepy smile to Ranboo as he hogs up all the blankets, or even just them making a crass joke at Ranboo's expense before helping them up.

No. Ranboo just had to notice how in love he was with Tubbo when the other was on the verge of a mental breakdown over Tommy.

His husband, crying over someone else, would've probably sparked jealously in someone else. Maybe someone else would've felt insecure, or even questioned their worth to their partner, but not Ranboo.

In fact, all Ranboo felt was relief. Even when Tubbo still was in denial about Tommy's death, because it meant if Tubbo was able to share his pain with Ranboo, it meant they were worthy.

And when Tubbo crafted those personalized rings, made for the sole purpose of keeping Ranboo close even through all the betrayal, how could Ranboo not choose him? It's about people, and Tubbo was his person.

Tubbo's eyes tense, but still chooses to look up into the sky.

"Yeah, I mean, no one really chooses to elope. Getting married by a priest or something, even holding a small ceremony, sounds kinda nice, doesn't it?"

"No no, you're right. I just," Do you think our marriage isn't real? "When do you want to have the wedding? Once everything finally calms down? Dream isn't really a problem anymore, Techno's retired, and like, Quackity is off doing his own thing. Maybe it's time we do our own thing too."

Void, Ranboo hopes the desperation isn't leaking through their voice. The idea of seeing Tubbo in white, hair combed and sharp fangs smiling adoringly at Ranboo sends the Enderman into cardiac arrest. It's actually a good thing Tubbo isn't looking at him, or else the shorter would've been able to see the purple hue radiating from their face.

Not like Ranboo can ever look away now.

"Yeah. I would love to have a ceremony. Invite Tom now that he's back, have Michael as the ring-bearer, get dapped up on the dancefloor."

"That's not- That's not even how you use that sentence."

"Making fun of my English now? My, I married a jerk."

They both laughed, and to Ranboo it was like music to his ears. Ranboo wishes he had the power to be selfish, to take and take from Tubbo, but he knows he could never. He honestly thinks it's part of the reason Tubbo tolerated them so much. Because Ranboo never crossed the line.

Yeah, Ranboo is happy letting Tubbo control this relationship of theirs.

Tubbo's eyes flutter shut, back of their hand rest against their forehead as the other lays out in between them. Ranboo has half the nerve to go reach for it, but he doesn't.

The cold air allows Tubbo to breathe out clouds, the warm-blooded nature reacting in tandem with the frigid environment. The fact that Tubbo, a goat hybrid made for the snowy nature, ever allowed someone like Ranboo to come near them?

Ranboo feels alive, special even.

Tubbo sighs out, before titling his head to look back at Ranboo. Finally, those pristine baby blue eyes direct their attention to Ranboo, and Ranboo has do everything in his power to not melt at the sight.

"Ran, I think we're both in too deep."

"And what's wrong with that?"

Tubbo simply hums, not responding back.
