Work Text:
1x1x1x1 lets down her lengthy hair. She was the last killer today, and she felt pretty good— or as good as she could feel— because she managed to kill everyone that round.
She begins questioning herself mentally as to why she hasn't just cut off her hair yet, it's way to lengthy. It's out of spite to show that sword fighters can fight with lengthy hair she reminds herself. This just irritates her.
She stares at a lantern on her drawer. The small flame inside the old lantern flickers. She usually doesn't even use the lantern, after all, her hidden eyes are really used to the dark. Unfortunately, it's even darker than normal today. There's a storm outside, which is rare. She looks through the small window in her room. The storm seems to be getting harsh.
She becomes increasingly irritated, why was she last one who had to be in a round? Why not Noli or someone else but her? She would prefer to sleep with silence. Speaking of silence, the storm decided to do the exact opposite of that. Thunder rolls loudly, with two concerningly close lightning strikes. She just rolls her eyes, as if that would be threatening enough for the storm to decide to leave.
She takes off her crown carefully, placing it on her singular drawer. She then flops onto her bed, hoping she can manage at least 30 minutes of sleep.
Someone knocks on her door. Who dares to try and wake her up? Her left eye "rekindles" itself. She just wants to tell off whoever is out there.
She harshly opens the door— just to be met with no one. Or well, she thought it was no one, till she lowered her head down. She saw C00lkidd on the verge of tears.
Her left immediately becomes less harsh, barely even glowing.
"Kidd? What are you doing awake?"
"...The storm... it's keeping me awake. I want papa!!" He sniffles.
1x1x1x1 internally panics— well, only for a moment— because the hatred immediately eats through it. She's really not good at helping children.
"It's just a storm. It won't hurt any of us. Go back to bed." Unfortunately, she sounded quite disgruntled while saying that, which was not the intention.
"...Can I please stay with you for the rest of the storm?" He completely ignored what 1x1x1x1 said right before. 1x1x1x1 couldn't help but be irrationally annoyed at that.
"Sure. Fine. Whatever." Their voice came off harsher than intended.
C00lkidd, seemingly not offended by the harshness of their voice, hops straight into the room, seemingly pleased. He jumps onto their bed.
1x1x1x1 couldn't help but wonder if they looked unnerving in the dark. The only body parts coolkidd can see is a green torso and shining red eyes. They assume that no part of their body is viewable, after all, they are completely black.
"...Why aren't you asleep, Kidd—" Thunder crashed outside, completely interrupting 1x1x1x1. It sounded awfully close; it continued for about 25 seconds. C00lkidd starts to cry.
"Hey— Kidd, the storm won't hurt you. We'll be fine." Coolkidd grabbed 1x1x1x1's pillow and hugged it. He shoved his face into it. 1x1x1x1 couldn't help but be a bit ticked off. They'll have to clean the pillow later.
1x1x1x1 grabs a stray blanket and raps it around c00lkidd. They then sat right next to him. Lightning struck consistently, C00lkidd would become startled each time.
1x1x1x1, growing tired of watching C00lkidd do nothing but cry, spoke. "How about we talk about something relaxing. Sitting here and doing nothing but cry won't help anything."
C00lkidd nods. "... How did your round of tag go?"
"I'd say it went pretty well."
"That's good..! Did you see my dad that round?"
"Yeah. He was actually the last one I had to.. chase," 1x1x1x1 refrains themselves from insulting the poor kid's father. "He managed to escape before I could kill him."
"That's c00l! I hope I can talk to him soon without playing tag."
1x1x1x1 doesn't respond.
"Do you have a dad?" Curiosity filled the child's voice.
"...Yes."
"Really? What was he like?"
1x1x1x1 almost responded with full honesty, but... they'd rather not traumatize a child.
"He wasn't... very nice."
"...oh."
1x1x1x1 ruffled C00lkidd's hair, then changed the subject. The storm was slowing, becoming nothing more than intense rain. Eventually, C00lkidd fell asleep, leaning his head on 1x1x1x1's shoulder. They slowly stood up, making sure C00lkidd doesn't wake up. They laid C00lkidd down on their bed.
Guess they won't be getting sleep tonight...
Whatever, they'll be fine.
