Chapter Text
Lounging on the windowsill of her new home, Cleo was enjoying the warm rays of sunshine. It was a big contrast to her previous day. She had been cold, wet, and hungry. However, her cries for help had been heard by a human. He had knelt in front of her, not too close, and waited for her to come to him. The warmth she felt the moment she let him hold her against his body made her rub her head beneath his chin. The man chuckled and stroked her wet fur.
What happened next hadn’t been to her liking. Too many people, harsh lights, and the unpleasant sting of a needle. The bath had been better, but only because the water had been hot. Back in the human’s arms, she was blissfully dry and warm, only her hunger was still an issue. Lucky for her, she didn’t have to wait long before she was brought to this place and given food.
After eating, she went to explore. Everywhere she went, she could smell the human’s scent, making it obvious that this was his territory. Satisfied with that observation, she found the human on the couch, his legs on the coffee table. She jumped up before walking on him, placing her front paws on his chest, meeting his gaze. The human smiled and petted her, scratching gently behind her ears.
“Hey there, girl. So, what do you think of Cleopatra as a name?” he asked.
She studied him for a moment, blinked slowly, then rubbed her head against his chin and neck before curling up in his lap. As his gentle hand stroked her fur, she purred softly, eyes shutting close as she fell asleep, completely safe.
