Chapter Text
The sun of a warm dawn illuminated the streets, parks, and businesses located in Adventure Bay. Like every day, people were preparing for their daily routines. Among them, a young German shepherd was getting up from his bed, hoping the day would pass normally.
6:30 AM
Chase watched the sunrise through his bedroom window.
Chase: "A beautiful morning as always. I hope today won't be too hectic." He stretched and got out of bed.
After a cold shower, he put on his police uniform and left his room, ready to wake the others.
Chase: "TIME TO WAKE UP!" He said through the megaphone.
Rocky: "Chase, it's six in the morning..." He said while yawning. "No one is awake at this hour. Can you let us sleep a little longer?"
Chase: "Not at all, Rocky." He looked around and noticed that only he and Rocky were awake. "Seems like no one heard... TIME TO WAKE UP!" He repeated through his megaphone.
After hearing some complaints from the others, Chase watched as one by one, they got up and left their rooms. Some came out grumbling, others with a positive attitude, ready to start the day. Once everyone was awake, they went to have breakfast. Breakfast went by normally, and each of them went on to do their tasks.
30 minutes later
Chase, about to get into his truck, saw someone approaching.
Chase: "Marshall?"
Marshall: "Good thing I caught you before you left."
Chase: "What's going on?"
Marshall: "I was wondering if I could accompany you. I want to talk to you about something very important, and well, accompanying you is the only way we can be completely in private."
Chase: "Alright, hop in." He started the engine while Marshall fastened his seatbelt. "So, tell me, what do you want to talk about?"
Marshall: "Well..." He hesitated for a moment. "The fair is coming up, and I want to invite someone."
Chase: "That sounds great! Who do you plan to invite?"
Marshall: "Well... if I tell you, do you promise not to say anything?" He looked at him with some concern.
Chase: "I promise, brother."
Marshall: "I want to invite Everest to spend the day with me." He said while scratching the back of his neck. "I mean, so she can have fun with us." He laughed nervously.
Chase held back a laugh but ultimately couldn't help letting out a small chuckle.
Chase: "Oh, I see what's going on here. You like Everest!" He said enthusiastically.
Marshall felt his cheeks burn.
Marshall: "Uh... I... I don't know what you're talking about." Avoiding looking at Chase.
Chase: "There's nothing wrong with that. I've seen how you act on missions when you're near her."
Marshall: "Well... maybe I do, just a little."
Chase smiled and suggested asking Skye for help, since she and Everest were best friends. After talking for a while longer, they returned to headquarters, and Marshall got out of the patrol car, thanking Chase before heading off to find Skye.
Meanwhile, Chase had driven to a secluded lookout point. From there, he could see the bay, hear the waves crashing against the rocks, and the seagulls singing. The midday sun was starting to warm up, but he didn't care. His mind was too occupied with his own thoughts.
Chase: "I can't take it anymore... With each passing day, I feel more exhausted, and these thoughts get stronger." He said to himself. "Everyone thinks I'm confident, someone they can rely on... but they don't know how I really feel. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just a burden, if they judge me... but not like I do."
He hugged himself, feeling a knot in his stomach.
Chase: "Just one decision and everything ends. It's that simple. Pills... rope... or just jump and close my eyes. "He sighed deeply. "I can't even make a stupid decision. I guess I've just learned to live with failure."
He looked at the horizon, feeling small against the vastness of the bay.
Chase: "I wonder... who helps me?"
The sea breeze blew gently, but his heart felt heavier than ever.
