Work Text:
In a secluded meadow, in the shadow of a quiet volcano, Entei slept in a peaceful loaf shape. Their soft snores nearly drowned out the crackle of the flames that poured from Entei's mouth on each exhale. The grass around them was lush and green save for the spot just in front of them which had charred in a slowly widening circle as they slept.
The rising sun crept slowly into Entei's refuge and began to warm the meadow, dispelling the fog that had partially hidden the legendary beast from view and eventually making its way across their sleeping form. As the light fully illuminated Entei they snorted awake and stood up revealing a patch of flattened grass that was much drier than the rest of the meadow.
Shaking themselves to full wakefulness, Entei took a deep breath of morning air and roared a greeting to the sun. High above them the lava of the volcano they had been resting near began to bubble and a small spout formed and crested just above the edge of the crater before dropping back into the lava pool.
Ignorant of the effect they were having on the volcano, Entei dug their great paws into the grass and took off across the meadow, racing to catch the dawn before it could reach the far side of the valley. When their prey escaped, as it did every morning that Entei attempted this race, they let out a mighty roar challenging the sun to a new duel tomorrow. This roar was so strong that the volcano behind them did more than bubble and lava spewed up from its summit and poured down the other side of the mountain. Entei did not notice the eruption and instead headed down their side of the mountain to see if anyone in the village below had made biscuits that they could have for their breakfast.
