Hi, my name is Alex Woodrow, and I am 11 years old. I’m the Avatar, if you’re not familiar with the Avatar I’m the master of all 4 elements, water, earth,fire, air. I’m also the bridge between worlds(spirit world and the living world). When the story takes place I'm 4 and 5 years old. The interesting thing was I was a mature kid. I could pronounce full sentences by the time I was 4, and I could speak by the time I was 3. I was also a very smart kid, I was described as an adult in a kid's body. To tell the truth, I was most likely like that because my dad was nowhere to be seen so I was living with my mom.
It was a ordinary day in the southern water tribe, I was off out far from the village practicing with my master waterbender watching me. I wasn’t with the other 4 and 5 year olds practicing basic waterbending skills. I was guess I was just good enough that I was working with a master water bender.
The reason I was not with the other kids my age was because, 1 day while we were training a master waterbender came to see how well my teacher was teaching us and how well we were doing, he went around looking and inspecting every kid, and seeing them show him how we were doing, finally when he saw me waterbend the water with so much ease, he decided to teach me more advanced waterbending. He kept giving me much more advanced stuff because I kept passing the tests he gave me to see if the stuff was to hard, but it was actually really easy for me,So there I was practicing making tall walls of water and ice, that was the skill he recently taught me. Which is by the way a very advanced skill that little waterbenders knew or were good at making ice. Especially kids.
Out of nowhere I see a ship that looked like a Fire Nation battleship, but I was confused, the war ended about 100 years ago. So why was a fire nation ship coming? The only time ships from the other nations came, was when there was a big issue that needed to be fixed so 1 of the nations (normally the one who called the meeting) would send out a letter to the other nations.
So me being scared and confused I pointed the ship out to my master and said “There’s a big ship coming this way and it looks like a battleship, and it looks like it’s a bit like a fire nation ship. Is there a meeting?”
After I said that, my master replied ”Run to the village as fast as you can and tell the chief what you told me, little child.” So I ran for probably 15 minutes and took a few breaks to catch my breath.
When I got to the village found the chief inspecting huts and ran and interrupted his conversation and told him exactly what I told my master. He told me not to worry and then I just fell onto the path that I was standing, which had a little bit of rocks on the paths. My body was exhausted so my body gave out from underneath me. When I fell hit my head on a rock as I blacked out.
When I woke up I was in my hut, that I share with my mom, in my sleeping bag and I felt exhausted. I heard talking outside and got up and was about to go outside when I heard “ There is one more but they fell earlier and they hit there head so they are resting right now. Also they are the youngest.”Said a voice, and it sounded like the chief.
“ Okey, thank you for letting me know.” Said a deep growly voice that I didn’t recognize. I guessed that the resting person was me, but I was confused about why the person wanted me. At least I think he wanted me. I got up and stretched and was about to put on my boots and walk out, when someone came in and told me to stay here and rest for a bit longer because I hit my head. I opened my mouth to say something when the person told me to be quiet and that she will answer my questions later.
Ten minutes passed until I heard the deep voice saying to get me. My mom came and said to get up and put my boots on and my coat. After I grabbed my boots and my coat, I sat on the floor and put on my boots. I got up and walked then went over where I put my coat, put it on then walked out the door with my mom.
When I got out of my hut with Mom I saw my fellow waterbenders standing there, the younger kids, ages around 4-7 looked pretty exhausted. But the weird thing is that the waterbenders are no older than like 15.
When the man saw me he said” Is this the last one?”
The chief replied “ Yes she’s the last one.”
He replied” Good, now let me introduce myself to you. I am sozin, I’m a friend of Firelord Zuko.
I asked” Can I know why the other waterbenders are in a line?”
Sozin replied saying “Everyone would like to know why I came and made all the young waterbenders line up. Well I was waiting to get all the young waterbendjers together so I didn’t have to tell all the young waterbenders here, then have to explain it again to you, so I waited for you to come. But enough about me I want to know about you. Why don’t you tell me your name and get at the end of the line.”
A few seconds pass until I say” I don’t know if I can trust you so why should I tell you my name.”
Sozin replies saying”If you tell me your name and get at the end of the line,I’ll tell you why I’m having young waterbenders line up.
Curiosity got the best of me and I say”My names Alex Woodrow.”
He says” Hi Alex Woodrow, nice to meet you”After he said that I stepped to the end, or the left of the line from sozins’ point of view.
After I stepped next to Korra who is a few days older than me and my best friend. Her birthday was a few days ago. My birthday is in a few days.I whispered ”Hi.”
Korra said to me” why was he do inter interes"
“Interested?” I asked
“Yes, interesteed in you”
“I don’t know. I look like the rest of you guys.”
Sozin announced”I know all off you have been wondering why you are lined up, well I want you to show me a trick with your waterbending.”
All the kids said “Yes sir.”
When we stopped talking Sozin pointed at the person at the front of the line and said” You the oldest one show me your best trick. Then we’ll go down the line and when it’s your turn show me your best trick.”
All the older ones did the same trick they had been practicing which was to make animals and shapes out of water. The best one was a flying bison, but it wasn’t perfect.
The younger kids made balls of water and moved it around.
The trick I decided to do is what I’d been practicing before this happened .I get into position and turn the snow around me in a 5 feet or so radiance into water then I make 10 feet tall walls of ice, after I make the ice wall Sozin’s mouth drops open out of astonishment, also everyone except my master gasped, after I saw everyone’s astonishment I decided to go a step farther and I turned the ice back into water and made a sphere of water around me.
I heard Sozin whisper to one of his crew” She could be the one, do the earthbending test because all of them can waterbend, if we do the fire test they could get scared and waterbend the fire could be put out, they could also air bend the rock away.”
The person said” yes sir, I’ll get the people ready”after he said that he walked up the ship, then I let the water go down but made sure that no one got wet because in the past a waterbender got another waterbender wet and the waterbender that got hit and they got a frostbite, it wasn’t that bad but they still couldn’t bend or do pretty much anything for months.While we waited for the person to come back everyone exempt sozins’s crew, stood like statues.
Minutes pass until the person comes of the ship and he has like 7 people with him, I guess that they are earthbenders because of what I heard. They came and they made small boulders from the ground, and they all weren’t the same size, the older kids got bigger boulders than the kids younger than them. The earthbenders went in front of all of us. The older kids went first. I also got the youngest looking earthbender, the earthbender in front of me looked like a teen.
The challenge that Sozin made us do is, we have 2 earthbenders assigned to each person, one person in front that throws the boulder, the other person stops the kid from getting hit with a boulder. One person took the the test at a time. I’m the only 4 year old, Korra is one of the 5 year olds.
When it was Korra’s turn, Korra’s person threw the rock, I knew that the other earthbender would catch the rock and make sure she wouldn’t get hit, but I for some reason stepped in front of Korra and my body moved on its own, I was confused, because I heard gasping, I thought I waterbended, but when I opened my eyes I saw everyone’s mouth open and the rock was thrown out of our little camp, which the wall was like 50 feet away. I was shocked. I had earthbended. I was so confused. Why had I earthbended. I was a waterbender not a earthbender.
A few minutes passed until everyone started to get out of the shock that I earthbended. Sozin said” This is the reason I came, I was trying to find the new Avatar, and I think we find her, Avatar Alex Woodrow.” I was confused before he said that. After he called me the Avatar he knelt down on one knee and bowed. Soon everyone bowed, some of the teenagers because they had heard of The Avatar. A few minutes or so passed until everyone slowly got up, during the few minutes it felt like years because everyone was looking at me. Soon everyone in the village came and congratulated me, even some of Sozins crew, and even Sozin himself came to congratulate me.
After everyone went back to what they were doing Sozin came up to me and said “You need to come with me and my crew so you can master all 4 elements”
I replied saying” where are we going? Where can I learn the other elements in one place? I don’t want to travel the world.”
“Okey Alex Woodrow, we’ll go to Urban City so you can learn under a firebender and earthbender friend, also so you can train under Master Quin.”
“Master Quin like THE only airbender left after avatar aang.”
“Yes like the airbender after avatar aang”
“Cool, anyway I’ll go check with my mom to see if it’s ok to go”
“Go get packed with a few stuff, also tell your parents and get them to pack if they are able to come, but Alex you have to come.”
“Okay?”
I walked to my hut which was very close to where we talked, when I got to the door my mom came out and said”Where were you? Did Sozin bother you? Are you okey?”
“I’m okay Mom, Sozin didn’t hurts me, he also didn’t bother me, he just told me that I have to come with him and head to Urban City and trains under my friends Richard and Lee, also I have to trains under Mater Quin. Also to have you and mater come, you because …… I don’t know, but master is to come because I needs to continue trains.”
“Okey, so you’re not going, so tell him as your parent you are staying.”
“Mom, I already tried, so I think that you should do it.”
“Okey I’ll do it.”
Mom left, minutes pass until she comes back and she looks defeated.
I asked” Did he listen?”
“No, he didn’t listen sweetie, go get packed and when you are packed let me know so I can check it.”
I was upset and exited when I got the news. I was upset because I didn’t want to go, but I was exited because I could see Richard and Lee. So I was having a lot of mixed emotions.
“Okay.” I went to my room, I don’t have a lot of stuff because my room is small. So I packed a few pairs of clothes , some toys, and stuff I could use to store stuff I get, like a few bags in a bigger bag.
5 minutes passed while I was packing, when I put everything together, and I was about to get Mom, I heard someone saying loudly”Hello? Is anyone home? Is this where Avatar Alex Woodrow lives?” It sounded kinda like the dude that Sozin told to get the earthbenders.
I waited a minute or so to see if Mom would talk to the person, when she didn’t, I went to the entrance of the hut and said”Who are you what do you want?”
“I’m Lee, sozin’s messenger.”
“So Lee, Sozin’s messenger, what’s you here for?”
“Sozin wants you and your parents to be ready to go and on the ship in a few minutes.
“We are not going to be ready in a few minutes, Me and my mom still have to finish packing.”
“Well when you and your mom are ready come down to the ship, also don’t worry about telling your master, he is already in the ship waiting for you.”
“Be back, I’ll tell Mom.”so I went back inside and headed to my moms room and told my mom.
After I told Mom she said” I’m all packed, we just need to check your bags you are bringing.” So after Mom checked all my bags she said” Okey you did good, we can bring all your bags, but I have a special bag for you, you have to fit all of your extra special stuff, if any don’t fit then they stay here, but I’ll let you carry a stuffy in you arms, but that’s it.”
So after a few minutes passed and I packed no toys except for all my stuffies in the small backpack that I use when we go on hikes, I brought a stuffed polar bear dog plush, that didn’t fit in my bag.
A few minutes later me and Mom got onto the ship. At the top of the ramp to the doors Sozin greeted us and told us to leave our stuff there that someone will bring it up to us, then he led us to a room.
The room was very spacious and it had water tribe banners hanging from the walls. There was also a small area with toys spread out over the small area. In the middle of the room was the biggest bed I had ever seen. It was a king size bed all for me, a FOUR year old.
When we entered the room Sozin said” Alex this is your room while you are staying here with us.”
I asked “ Wheres is Mom staying?”
Sozin replied saying “ She has a choice, she can stay in this room with you or she can have her own room.”
Mom replied saying” I’ll stay with my daughter.”
“Okey. Suit yourself.” Sozin said “I’ll leave you two to get settled. Your stuff will be brought up soon.”After he said that he left.
A few minutes passed and a few maids brought up our stuff except my stuffed polar bear that I had been carrying the whole time.
