Work Text:

"Dante, we shouldn't!" Leon whined, trying to grab his cousin's shoes, but just missing despite jumping. "What if Mom and Aunt Eva finds out?!"

"Where's your sense of adventure?" A cheeky grin, chomping away on a bright red and green apple as bare legs swung over a branch. More of the ripened fruits hung around and above them, the tree belonging to a neighbor. "Old Gran Erikdóttir said it was OK when they're ripe!"

"But not without her permission!" Vergil hissed, looking about nervously. He barely caught two apples that was dropped down by his twin.

Leon nodded eagerly, glad that someone was on his side. "Yeah!" He had to scramble to catch his apple.

Dante stuck out his tongue after licking the lingering juices from his fingers. "Fraidy cats!" He paused, hearing a telltale buzz and grinned when he looked up. "Hey, honey!"

Eyes on the half-brothers/cousins down below widened in horror, apples forgotten as they scrambled to climb up after their mischievous third. "Dante, NO!"

"Dante, YES!"

It was to much screaming and later embarrassed whining from three young boys that Eva and her twin sister Margaret scolded in heated worry as they treated their sons' injuries, much to Old Gran Erikdóttir's cackling as she helped with cool towels and a pungent yet cooling salve, recounting her own mischievous sons when they were young. All of them were glad that the cousins weren't allergic to bee stings.

"I swear, Dante! I'm gonna tell everyone about this one day!" Leon grumbled, trying not to scratch at the stings. "You'll see!"

"Aw, shaddup." The younger twin stuck out his tongue, also fidgeting on trying not to scratch.

Vergil simply suffered in silence, shifting the ice pack while glaring holes at his twin brother.

Nero simply stared at Leon as Lady and Trish were both cackling away with tears in their eyes, Lady leaning against Trish for support. Lightly bouncing a confused Cato on his knee, the lone government agent was the perfect picture of smug, internally absorbing the schadenfreude as Dante covered his face with a groan.

"You-! YOU-!" The blonde demoness wheezed, still laughing before developing hiccups. "Bees-!"

Lady was too far gone in her laughter, barely clinging on to Trish to stay upright while fully doubled over, and nearly knocking both her and Trish's drinks from the coffee table.

"Seriously?!" Nero gawked, now staring at his other uncle and moving to pick up Cato at the toddler's raised arms towards his direction.

"We were kids..." the half-demon hunter weakly muttered, stealing both women's slices of pizza. "I really thought it was a good idea at the time."

That further set off the two women into laughing even more and neither really cared about losing their food.

Leon serenely sipped his soda with a highly pleased smirk. "Told you I was going to retell this story."

"Shut up," Dante grumbled with little heat behind his own drink.
