If you were to ask Cater Diamond why he started his Magicam account, he’d flash a smile and say so much, and yet so little. No one really noticed though.
Cater’s sisters had started modelling when they were young. One thing led to another and now they are somewhat known figures online and in the industry.
His sisters were starting to get social media, and they were quickly enthralled by it. Cater watched as their accounts grew. When one of their posts went viral, they were ecstatic.
He saw the way their followers treated them. As long as they didn’t step out of line, his sisters were cherished. Adored. Loved.
Their accounts were full of product reviews, celebrity commentaries, and shopping marathons. If it was trending, they did it or got it. Anything to stay relevant.
It started out as an accident. His sisters had forgotten to tell him they were streaming the newest (and trendiest) cozy game. Cater walked in to tell them their newest package had arrived. His sisters’ chat went crazy.
His sisters did not want to admit they made a mistake, so they gave Cater a controller and said he would be joining them for the rest of the stream.
Cater was perfect in the eyes of the camera. He was only twelve, but that made it better. He was full of wonder and energy. He knew how to keep an audience entertained. Their chat loved him.
After that, Ava and Lydia had their first fight. Ava wanted Cater to join them more to get their numbers up, but Lydia said that Cater would overshadow them. The house was a warzone for the next couple of weeks. They never asked what he thought about all of this.
Eventually, they reached an agreement. Cater would play with them during their streams but he wouldn’t be on camera.
Ava was happy their follower count grew, but Lydia still thought that their chat was still too focused on Cater. According to the random people on the internet, it was endearing to see siblings bond.
Things were good for his sisters, so it wasn’t long until Ava wanted to go a step further. She wanted Cater to get his own Magicam account. The house turned into a warzone yet again.
But Cater saw what happened when his sister stepped out of line. Their followers did everything but dox them. He didn’t want that to happen to him.
Luckily for Cater, his mom said no. Lydia was victorious that time, but only for a while. Cater’s mom wouldn’t let him have an account until he was thirteen.
Not because social media was unsafe for a child, but because another mom had let their eleven-year-old daughter create an account, and his mom’s entire group had gossiped about how horrible her parenting was.
The morning of his thirteenth birthday, Ava made him an account. Things spiraled from there.
Over the next year, his sister’s coached him on what to post and how to interact with fans. If he posted anything without their permission, it wouldn’t be pretty. Unless the post performed well, then his sisters would post something similar.
Cater wasn’t completely controlled by them though. He made a second account so he could have a feed that was suited toward his actual interests. His sisters loved Neige LeBlanche. The first person he ever followed? Vil Schoenheit.
Vil was a role model for Cater. They were the same age, but Vil was already far, far ahead of Cater. And it wasn’t just nepotism. Cater could see how hard Vil worked. Every role he played had so much thought put into it. There were even rumors that Vil would constantly ask the writers for the current script in its entirety so he could act with the full knowledge of his character.
It was admirable.
Cater Diamond, the social media star, was fake, but Vil wasn’t. Anyone could see that.
Sometimes, Cater would read his comment section. He knew it wasn’t good idea. Yes, there was a never-ending number of fans who openly announced their adoration for him, but there was also the other side.
The worst part was… The haters were usually right. His fame was only due to his sisters. He was nothing more than the latest trend. He was fake.
He didn’t look at his comment section very often.
Things were good for a while. But no social media star goes without controversy. Something was bound to happen.
His school got a transfer student.
Autumn was nice at first. It looked like she actually wanted to be friends with him. But something happened. Cater Diamond did something wrong. He took the mask off.
That was all it took. One comment. One step out of line. One mistake.
Cater went to school tired. Yesterday was a busy day for Magicam. Several new products had been released. A popular singer released a new album. A new movie was announced.
The Diamond household was up all night as they analyzed what they needed to post to stay in good standing with their fans but also bring in some new ones.
Cater was exhausted.
The Diamond family had moved once again a couple months ago. Which meant this new school had new people. New people who didn’t know what he was like before Magicam. New people who only knew him as Cater Diamond: a rising Magicam star. The younger brother to the Diamond sisters.
Ava would have his head if anyone started spreading rumors about him. Lydia would destroy him if he ever had more followers than her.
So, Cater wore his internet persona as if it was his face. His reputation at whatever school he was enrolled at was pristine, so Ava was happy. He toned down his charm, so Lydia was happy.
But he couldn’t maintain that forever.
The mask slipped during lunch. It was loud. The lights were bright. And Cater was so, so tired. He fell asleep in his chair. If it was anyone else, it would have been fine. But he was Cater Diamond.
Autumn was a dedicated follower of his. That was the concerning bit.
Cater went home. He thought it was fine. No one had said anything to him. He went to bed thinking of what to post in the morning.
He woke up in controversy.
Well, the controversy wasn’t about him. It was about his family. And that was much, much worse.
See, what happened was that Autumn had seen him fall asleep. She took a picture before waking him up. In the middle of the night, she posted to Magicam.
If it was just a nap, he could have said something. If it was just his grades, he could have said something. But it was about his family. There was nothing he could do.
Cater read the post.
Hey guys its Autumn! I’m a transfer student that goes to school with @CaterDiamond. Now, yesterday I saw something concerning. Our beloved Cater Diamond had fallen asleep during lunch. This could have been nothing, but I’ve been looking into Cater’s past. We all know what usually happens to child stars, so I wanted to see if our Cater was experiencing something similar.
Let’s look at the facts. I have a trusted contact that says when Cater started joining the Diamond sisters on their weekly streams, Cater’s grades started slipping. It was nothing major until he himself got an account the morning of his thirteenth birthday. Then his grades dropped. Permanently.
If we look at his social media posts, there is very little that is actually authentic. Most of what he posts looks like it came straight from his sisters. If you put their post history side by side, you can’t tell who’s who. Granted, Cater does post skateboarding stuff, but the skater boy aesthetic is mildly popular. And it’s not like the Diamond sister would ever skateboard so only Cater could utilize that trend.
Now I’m not saying Cater is being used for internet clout, but… The facts speak for themselves.
[Attached is a picture of Cater asleep on a table.]
When his sisters saw the post, they instantly went to work. It wasn’t hard.
Magicam was in a frenzy over the post. Some agreed and were condemning the Diamond family, but most were attacking Autumn. Because… Well, the language she used was concerning.
Cater’s current classmates were quick to reply with videos and personal stories. Autumn was soon labeled as a crazy fan who internet stalked Cater until eventually transferring to his school and taking pictures of him.
Cater posted that he was struggling in school because he didn’t understand the material, which was nothing to be ashamed of, that gendering social media posts was weird, and that he would appreciate if she took down her post because he did not consent to that picture being taken.
Within a couple hours, Autumn took down the post and made a public apology. But her reputation was already ruined. Her parents pulled her out of the school.
And that was that.
This controversy had lasting effects, but it didn’t amount to much in the grand scheme of things. His family was under scrutiny for using him, but the internet moved on soon enough. Cater just had to branch out a little more with his posts and people stopped comparing him to his sisters. Cater just had to glamorize being an influencer, and people backed off on his family. Cater just had to lie, and things were easy.
The whole situation taught Cater a valuable lesson. He could never take the mask off, so he might as well make it his face.
Cater didn’t go to school that day.
