Chapter Text
Izuku sat at her desk with her hands pressed against her cheeks and her eyes glued to the paper in front of her.
She was running on 2 hours of sleep after spending last night running through the city of manhattan. Or rather, swinging through the city.
It had been six months since Izuku discovered her new abilities, and it all started when she was bit by some kind of mutant spider. Her mind was blanking as she stared down at her paper, the images of buildings rushing past her face still clear in her mind.
“Izuku”
her head snapped up to the voice calling her name.
oh.
“class ended, you getting up?” Katsuki asked standing above her.
“oh, right, yeah.”
Looking around she realized everyone else had already left the classroom as she sat there like an idiot.
She slowly got up, stuffing her paper and pens into her backpack and swinging it over her shoulder, stumbling a bit as she stood.
“You good?” Katsuki asked, watching Izuku’s clumsy mannerisms.
“yep, all good. see you around” Izuku said quickly before walking past the blonde and out the door.
Izuku still felt weird around the girl, and couldn’t bring herself to just talk to her.
Her and Katsuki had a long history, they lived in the same apartment complex and practically grew up together.
Both of their families had immigrated from Japan to New York and had young daughters, so they naturally became friends. It was an innocent love: playing pretend games of heroes, licking their sticky fingers covered in melted ice cream, giggling and whispering under blanket forts.
But it didn’t last.
They grew apart in middle school, or rather, Katsuki started ignoring Izuku.
Izuku stopped talking to her after a year of trying, and that’s how it was for a while.
Now they were juniors in high school, and Katsuki liked messing with Izuku’s brain.
As if she didn’t have enough on her plate with her whole secret identity thing going on, she noticed small gestures that the blonde would display towards her.
like when she’d feel a tap on her shoulder after falling asleep in class.
Maybe when she’d glance over at Katsuki just to find her eyes already looking at her.
Waking her up to tell her that class ended…
Izuku walked home that day in a rush, walking through the streets of the busy city and running up the stairs to her apartment.
Her mom wasn’t home yet so she fished the keys from her back pocket and pushed open the door, disappearing inside and throwing her bag messily to the ground.
a long sigh escaped her mouth as she entered the empty space, walking to her bedroom and practically slamming onto her bed.
She didn’t know what time it was when she woke up, but she did know that something was wrong.
She could feel it in her body, like an instinct almost, a sense of danger.
It was helpful, but it sucked when she was trying to sleep after practically walking like a zombie through her classes that day.
She slipped on her suit anyway, she didn’t hear her mom but decided to be as quiet as possible slipping out the window.
Shooting webs from her wrist and swinging from her window to a nearby building, Izuku felt the sensation grow stronger as she swung.
After a bit more of searching, she spotted it.
three men in black, they were hijacking a car, and a nice one at that.
Her plan was simple and calculated: neutralize any weapons and keep the suspects unable to escape until authorities arrived.
Quickly, she shot small amounts of webbing to each of the suspects hands to keep them from moving, each still outside of the car. They looked around confused before looking up and seeing Izuku jump down from the building above and land in front of them in a crouched position before standing straight, shooting three more webs at their feet.
“hey guys, sorry to ruin your plans for the night” she said cheekily.
“I wouldn’t- Ah hey!! Not cool man!” she yelled after a fourth man stepped out of the car and pointed a gun her way.
“Either get the fuck outta here or I shoot”
“Okay okay, I was just about to leave” she replied calmly, putting her hands up defensively.
She wasn’t scared, not yet. She could easily shoot a small web at the man’s hand in less than a second and tie him up along with the rest of his mates.
Just as Izuku was about to shoot a web from her wrist, she heard a click from behind her, and a large flash of light to follow it.
By instinct, she turned around and shot the web at the source.
What she saw made her eyes widen larger than she thought was possible.
Katsuki stood just a few feet away with a camera held up to her eye, the lense now covered in spiderwebs.
In a split second, she heard the gunshot in front of her fire, quickly dodging the bullet but realizing who was now in its path.
Izuku had jumped high enough to latch one of her webs to a building above and was already a few feet in the air before the bullet could hit her.
she looked down at the blonde girl frozen in place and used her other hand to shoot another web onto her chest and pulled her up with great force, holding onto her waist and pulling her against herself.
The bullet missed her by half a millimeter.
Izuku had swung away from the scene with Katsuki flush against her body as she flew from building to building, adrenaline pumping through her entire body.
She didn’t look at Katsuki, she didn’t even know if she was saying anything since all she could hear was her heart beating in her ears.
They landed on the roof of a building Izuku didn’t recognize.
She slowly let go of the blonde as they landed on the stable concrete, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath, Katsuki standing next to her.
she huffed in ragged breaths before standing straight again and dragged a hand over her face. Katsuki just stared.
“you really had me worried, what were you doing out there?” Izuku finally said, her body turned towards Katsuki. She sounded calm but her heart was racing.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to cause trouble.”
She sounded vulnerable and ashamed almost, it was uncanny coming from the blonde.
“no it’s okay, just try to be careful, I don’t know what I would’ve done if I hadn’t pulled you up in time.”
“guess I really owe you one” The blonde chuckled sheepishly.
“Just be careful alright? and go home.”
Izuku shot a web to a taller building in front of the two and swung away before Katsuki could reply.
Izuku sat in her bed that night staring at the wall, she wouldn’t get any sleep again.
