Summary:

Collin unknowingly sends his Clone to a quest to officially ruin his WHOLE reputation

AKA Clonelin finds out about Gridworld doors and uses them to travel for fun (while keeping Collin's identity, of course)

Note: Tags update with each chapter

Notes:

Note: The pronouns of Clonelin may change, this is just because of the POV changes in the story

So like, for example, In Collin's POV, Clonelin would be referred to as it/its, but in Clonelin's POV, the pronouns are he/him, but in other entities POVs, the pronouns would change to they/them

Sorry if it's confusing, but that's just how I tend to write characters with shifting/unknown identities

Chapter 1: Gridworld fucking HATES Clonelin

Summary:

Clonelin tries to remove a Gridworld block. Does NOT go every well for him and everyone in Gridworld hates him.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It was standing there. Right outside Collin's window, there his mimic was, seeming staring at something in the distance. Collin was just trying to smelt more stone since he didn't want to be caught in a situation with and entity he needed to hide from and having no blocks to hide with. Plus he was about to go mining (hopefully to get diamonds, but his luck has been low) so he really didn't want to get jumped by any entities. It was something Collin started doing a while ago so it was more a habit to restock one in a while.

He looked back at his clone, still staring, moving around a bit, maybe confused. What could be staring at for so long? It wasn't doing anything and it wasn't staring at him, so he rather let it be than make it a bigger issue by trying to shoo it away.

So Collin shot out a message instead.

>hey you

>what are you looking at

The clone looked around, before it noticed the Collin was looking at it through the window of his house. It stood still for a moment, as if in shock, before typing a reply.

<colinlock19> block

It ran around to the front, heading inside. Great. Now it was IN Collin's house for what seems like the millionth time. Not to mention the reply it gave was vague and didn't clear anything up.

>yeah, no shit

>there are a lot of blocks

The clone looked back out the window staring for a bit more. Then it turned back to Collin, who was pretty unimpressed at this point.

<colinlock19> wer;id bl oc k

Collin thought for a moment, think about what his clone could have meant by that. But again, he really shouldn't care, fuck them and their vague messages, Collin should've just told them to get the fuck out.

But then the thought struck him. Was it those Gridworld fuckers on his world AGAIN?? They are the only ones putting those strange blocks on his world, the other entities that did place random crap around his world just used Minecraft blocks and made pretty obvious structures that was easy to notice.

>the gridworld block things?

<colinlock19> wHa t ?

Right. The mimic may copy everything he does, but doesn't know everything he knows.

<colinlock19> co me !! !

Collin knew that it probably just wanted to cover it up, like how Collin would have done, but as it creeped closer, it reminded him about how the thing attempted to kill him once. Yeah, never again.

>no thank you

<colinlock19> wh[  y

>im going mining so i dont want to go

>just cover it up yourself if you want

The clone was still and quiet until it decided to raid Collin's chest for planks.

>GET YOUR OWN SHIT

The climb up to the mountain wasn't too hard. The block was barely noticeable amongst the snow. That weird block, it's all over the world, but Collin didn't seem to be able to see them. But he could and he was more curious about what it was meant to be. But Clonelin took out the stolen wood to cover it up anyways.

Then he spotted something from the corner of his eye. Another one of those blocks. He walked over, tapping it a bit until a menu came up. He's seen this menu before, but he didn't really understand it well. The only real thing he managed to do with it is things he already knew how to on his own. Plus the Remote Gorrister breaks easily after a bit. Not fun.

The mimic closed out of it, before looking around to see if anyone saw him. There weren't any floating people or even any mobs nearby. That's good, maybe.

He started to cover up the Remote Gorrister with the wood. Then he pauses for a moment, glancing around. Still, nothing, but he FEELS it. Something was there, staring at him, but nothing was there. He didn't like that. Not one bit. He covers up the rest of the block quickly before wandering off somewhere else. Should he go back to his base? Should he walk around? He likes to walk around in circles, circles are fun.

The copy went down the other side of the mountain, deciding that he would try to explore some more, maybe get more resources. He reached the bottom, now feeling grass instead of the snow, and he turns around as if looking for something. There had to be something staring, watching out of sight, and frankly, he's getting angry. That doesn't mean much in the long run since, frankly, out of all the entities in Collin's world, the mimic is the one that is most easily angered.

He took out his sword, walking around in circles, looking for something that simply wasn't there until it finally spotted something. Not an animal or a mob, no, a door. Was the door watching him? That couldn't be the case, but it's the closest thing he had gotten to an answer.

So he climbed to the small cranny in the mountain where the door was. He looked through the small window of the door, seeing the stairway down, but unable to see more. He opened the door and made his way downstairs only to find more doors.

He looked inside the small window of the first door to see another strange block, but this time, one he didn't recognize. Maybe he should cover that one up too. He didn't think about it too much when he opened it up and stepped in.

please wait!

The clone was transported to another door, this time right in his face. He opens the door, confused. He exits looking back at the door he just came from. Then he looks around. It's dark here, too dark for most to see anything that wasn't near him, but he didn't have torches or anything, so he would just have to deal with it.

The place looked vastly different from what he was used to. Tile blocks everywhere. He swung at one of them with his sword, but it didn't drop anything. He didn't have a pickaxe or anything so he couldn't mine it even if he really wanted to. Oh well, it wasn't a huge deal to him anyway.

He walked along the path, making no note of where he was going or what he had to do, clearly this was way out of his usual domain. He should be finding a way back to Collin's world, but that's none of his concern right now as his curiosity was too high.

He found himself at a dead end, only a thin cobblestone staircase that went down to another hallway. Below was the void, a thing the clone hadn't seen much of. He made his way down, being careful not to fall below. For a normal player, they might just die and respawn without their items or something, but for him, that would just be the end.

He reached the bottom to another hallway. Was this place just made up from endless hallways? If it is, he'd rather just leave, hallways weren't his thing. He walked down, passing more doors as he went, not interested in any of them. It all just looked identical. But it all led down to another door with a teleporter inside, just like the ones he'd seen with the others, but this time, it wasn't blue, it was mostly orange.

Having no other option, the clone stepped inside.

PLEASE STAND BY

He found himself in another room. This place already seemed infinite and he's sick of it. At least this place was a little more different. Much brighter than before and there weren't endless hallways, just a room with a glass window leading to another room. He didn't recognize what was inside of it and he didn't want to know.

He made his way around to the other side of the room to see if there was a way out, only to see that the door out was locked, no button anywhere. The clone sighs and goes back to the teleporter, stepping inside, but it didn't work anymore. He swung his sword at the teleporter with frustration, but nothing happened.

He left, walking back into the room and breaking the glass, a small test for something. It shattered into pieces and the mimic went inside, taking a bit of damage as he fell. As expected, there wasn't really anything interesting, but that wasn't what he was looking for. No, he's just trying to find a way out, since he's quite frustrated. This was not fun.

He walked out, finding himself in a dark hallway, with only yellow blocks illuminating the pathway. He breaks one of them, but nothing drops still. Annoying. He walks forward until the path splits into two ways. He stands there for a moment, readjusting his yellow raincoat before going left.

He hopes to be out of here soon, it's awfully boring and long.

The clone realized that it was a maze a little too late. He had spent too much time going in circles and breaking blocks that led nowhere. But, he's out now, back into another room with random blocks stacked up in piles and more tiles and more of the same. At least there was another teleporter in this room now. But the clone's interest was piqued elsewhere.

There was a glass window with a strange looking machine. It was dark in there, even with the light blocks illuminating some of it. In front was a red block that he could interact with, much like the Remote Gorrister blocks in Collin's world, but it didn't have the same functions.

He clicks on the button labelled "0", and a entity pops up. Blue hair, grey skinned, but it didn't move. He clicks the same button again and another of the same entity appears again. There's two now. He clicks on the button next to it, labelled "1" and a black shadowy entity pops up along with the blue haired guy. The shadowy entity reminds the mimic of some of the entities in Collin's world, but unlike the entities in Collin's world, it didn't move, only reacting when another entity pushed it around. He clicks run and the entities start to spawn a bunch. In fact, there were way too many now for that small space.

The mimic got up and broke the glass and released a wave of them into the area. He was pushed around by all the new people bumping into him, but with a bit of struggle, but managed to reach the red block again. Then he decided to attempt to fix the situation a little bit by clicking dislocate. Bad idea. They all started to spring to life, one by one, doing random things that the clone didn't understand. It didn't seem like they had a take in mind or any sort of consciousness, like robots.

The clone clicked off the strange blocks and left the room into the hallway. Then he blocked off the door with wood planks. Whatever mess he created could stay there, where he couldn't see it. He walked out only to a very familiar looking hallway. Great. More walking. Still not fun.

He trudged along, ignoring the strange man that walked past. He walked to the other side when he felt a strange prick on his back. He froze up, spooked, his body going back to his original, black and shapeless form for a brief moment before he turned back into Collin once more. He turns around, feeling slightly spooked (and pretty angered), only to see the strange man looking at him.

<>Did you do this?

The man says. He looks pretty professional, besides a black square for a face. That's not professional to the mimic; if he were trying to be professional, he would form himself a face, a proper one too. He also had no username, which is pretty strange, but it's not like the clone cared all too much about the details of this entire thing... Although, if you asked him, it's pretty rude of the man to not make a username. Sure, the mimic's username could be pretty inconsistent, but at least he tried to give a proper username.

The mimic replied.

>ye; s

>donT go iin si de !! !

The man turned back to the wooden planks that were covering up the door, deleting them in a flash. The mimic looked back at where he was originally going to go, then at the man once again.

<> I'll deal with that later.

<>You.

<>Where did you come from?

The man turns back to the mimic. The mimic just stood there for a moment, typing out his reply, a tense few seconds.

>I canme fro. m y wor[ ldd

The man stood still for a moment.

<>Nevermind, that wasn't very helpful.

<>This is out of my sovereignty.

The man stepped forward and the mimic, feeling slightly intimated, flashed his sword at him. The man didn't seem very scared at all, but he didn't move forward anymore.

>Follow me.

The man walked past the clone and the clone followed suit, not questioning the intentions of the man all that much.

Admin 4 didn't really mean for so much mess to come out of these experimentations, but again, this place had been a bit of a mess since the start. He had just wanted to check up on the A.I experimentations after getting the go ahead to restart them over again from the last 'steaming' session, stream 42. So close yet very far.

But things couldn't be so simple for him, no, he had to have an unexpected visitor come in and mess up the experimentation room. But with how many times he had been running this simulation, the experimentation room seemed to be collateral damage in most iterations anyway, so it wasn't as big of a deal as figuring out who this was and why they were here. It could very well be a whole other experiment he was unknowingly interfering with, but a scan of the visitor's code showed nothing readable, just something that seemed to be gibberish at best. So this was something else, not a player nor an experiment or rogue A.I.

admin 4: Stay here, I need to get someone.

The visitor stayed in place, looking around. It looked familiar, but not too much so. Its appearance is quite uncanny too. Its height shifts as much as its username, the clothes it was wearing were dirty and ill-fitting, covering most of its face, but what was visible were two eyes, one eye that was too big and extremely dilated, like someone one some sort of substance, the other eye was clearly fake, made of skin colored to be an eye. But players liked strange skins, there were plenty of examples of such.

Admin 4 left the man in the hallway, entering the door and turning left to a white void, where Admin 6 was located.

admin 4: Admin 6.

admin 4: This is an urgent matter, there is someone that had broken into the facility and made quite the mess.

admin 6: Is this something you cannot deal with yourself?

admin 4: No, unfortunately not, but I was able to bring them here.

admin 6: Bring them in, then.

Admin 4 goes back out into the hallway, where the guest had sat down, seemingly playing with a black blob in its hand. Upon close inspection, AKA Admin 4 was just close enough to see the details, it looks like its sleeve was pulled down and the blob was its hand. Definitely not something a regular player would do.

admin 4: Come with me.

The visitor looked up at him before getting up and following the admin to the room.

admin 4: This is who I was talking about.

Admin 6 looked that the new guest, a pig of recognition striking him.

admin 6: That's Collin Morris.

admin 4: That's a player?

Admin 6 took a closer look. The guest was in fact NOT Collin, but someone pretending to be him and doing a bad job of doing so.

admin 6: Actually, with a closer look, it doesn't seem to be Collin, but someone trying to be him.

The copycat seemed upset by this comment, staring at Admin 6 with a look of offense.

<colinlock16> ia m coll;in

It replies, making itself known. Both admins looks back at the unexpected guest for a moment.

admin 6: They seem very insistent that they are Collin Morris.

admin 6: I reckon that it's one of the entities from his world.

admin 4: You should check first.

admin 6: I will, it's just an assumption.

admin 4: What do we do with it then?

admin 4: We can't have it run around and do more damage around here.

admin 6: Place it in testing facility 5 in the west wing.

Admin 4 nodded before turning to the guest who was unusually quiet.

admin 4: follow me.

Admin 4 left the room and the copycat visitor followed suit, having the sinking feeling that the admin is not going to take him home. But that's fine, he could find his own way home after he figures out what they are doing here. Must be something bad. Like SATAN. SATAN always does something bad and the clone always seemed to fall for it before Collin did. Like scaring him. The clone is just easily spooked.

After a lot of walking and a few teleports, Admin 4 led the clone down to the place they were talking about. It was dark and a wrong move could lead them both falling into the darkness below. He didn't understand why the hallways didn't stop with a wall, but instead, seemed to cut off into the void. Admin 4 approached what looked like a room behind some glass, broke a sign next to it and rewrote it to say Unknown Entity: Do Not Break Containment. The clone frowned. Then the admin removed the glass just enough that the clone could walk inside.

< > Go in there and wait for further instructions.

The clone went inside, but he's just unimpressed. It was a cobblestone box blocked off with glass. Admin 4 walked away, leaving the clone alone.

After a bit of waiting around, the clone broke out of the glass, intending to explore some more. No way he would just be left in a box to rot away. He looked at the sign and broke it, keeping it for himself. He approached the glass on the other side of the room with full intentions to break the glass there too. But something stopped him.

It just felt... off, like it was housing something the clone shouldn't release.

He backed away slowly before turning around to see bedrock had replaced the open air. Crap. The clone went over to the bedrock, hitting it a few times before realizing that it's pointless and breaking the wall next to it and blocking off the entrance with wood. He dug out to see the void below and he saw a staircase up, a different pathway and more hazardous pathway to get to where he was.

The staircase led to another room, one with more doors. He went forward, opening up the double doors to see a lot more doors at the walls of another long hallway.

The clone strunk when he saw this; he regretted coming in here. He just wanted to be home right now. He's the most fatigued he's ever been and he wasn't going to go through every single one to find his way back.

So he picked a random door and went inside.

please wait!

He walked out the teleporter to find himself in a very familiar place. The same room of doors he had found of Collin's world originally. Maybe his lucky guess was right.

<zacnavius> WHAT

Notes:

Clonelin doesn't get the name "Clonelin" yet, but he'll get it next chapter I think.

Anyway, the Gridworld loading screen thingys look like crap, but I refuse to even attempt to add an image onto ao3, that's too hard
