Work Text:
Peter Parker loved music.
He remembered his parents singing lullabies to him as an infant, Uncle Ben humming in the car, and even after his death, Aunt May still playing and singing along to his favorites.
After Peter became Spiderman, he spread his love for music to the people he saved and helped. Once, after an incident with the Green Goblin, Peter found a mother trying to calm her sobbing child. He took the baby in his arms and sang softly to her. Later, as he came across more people everyday, he started to sing a lot more. While swinging through the city, comforting someone, or just simply singing for the people of New York City to enjoy.
After getting Blipped and finding our he had lost 5 years of his life while everyone went on without him, it felt like music was the onl thing that seemed, well, normal to him. And boy did Peter have a voice, it was soothing but powerful. Firm but soft. No one but Aunt May knew about his hidden talent. She had only heard him sing once. Until his little talent was revealed.
It was a nice, quiet, day. Peter swung through the city, keeping an eye out for any criminals and posing for pictures with tourists and citizens.
After helping a lady cross the street and wrapping up a few things, he headed back to his apartment to do the dishes. May had a double shit, so he wanted to help her as much as possible.
He turned on the radio and "As It Was" by Harry Styles came on. Aunt May used to sing it with Uncle Ben every time it came on the radio. So like an almost reflex, he started to hum and sing along to Harry
In this world,
Its just us,
You know its not the same as it was
He hadn't even noticed when he ad finished the dishes and had started to cook dinner. Song after song came on and he moved with the music.
"Ahem."
Peter's head shot up from where he had been cutting peppers and he turned around to see all the Avengers with Aunt May standing in the doorway of their apartment.
He jumped and slipped back, catching himself on the counter behind him. How had he not felt them coming? At least hear them?
"What the hell?" He sputtered out, "How did you get in here?" He looked at Aunt May, "You're supposed to be at work still!"
"I got off early." Aunt May replied with a faint smile.
Peter nodded his head slowly, "Uh huh." He nodded his head at the Avengers, "But why are they here?"
"May invited us over for dinner- so we just picked her up on the way here." Steve spoke up this time.
"Oh! Wow, thats great, um well dinner isn't ready but you're obviously welcome to sit wherever." He turned around quickly and began to fumble with the dishes and pots of soup.
He's met with silence.
Peter peaks over his shoulder (not so subtly) and watches as the party makes their way to the small dining area.
They definitely saw me. Peter thinks. Maybe if I pretend it didn't happen they'll forget about it.
About 30 minutes later, the food is set, and every one is crowded around the table, all of them in different conversations.
Sam and Steve were talking about Bucky's recent date with Sam's sister, Sarah (something Sam was not pleased about). Clint and Natasha told an extremely worried Bruce about Budapest (finally). May coaches Thor on NOT smashing glasses and proper table etiquette. Peter and Tony talk about Dr. Cho's new findings on cell regeneration.
As time goes by, the table silences and everyone eats in a comfortable silence.
"You have a good voice Peter." Nat's voice breaks through the silence.
Peter choked on his bite of chicken, "What?"
"You have a good voice." Natasha repeated.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I-I-I mean i don't sing, Like I have a horrible, rusty voice trust me. You probably were just hearing things."
Natasha tilted her head, "Funny, how did you know I was talking about your singing voice?"
Peter turned a shade of deep red.
The Avengers laughed at his reaction.
"She's not wrong through," Clint said, "You do have one heck of a voice."
"Were you in choir or something?" Tony asked, leaning back in his chair.
"Uhh no I was never in choir." Peter said awkwardly.
"Peter you were in choir from kindergarten to 8th grade."
Peter side-eyed Aunt May. The whole table roared with laughter at his reaction.
"Have you ever sung for anyone?" Thor asked.
"Once," Peter responded, a thoughtful look in his eyes, "It was at Uncle Ben's funeral."
"It was beautiful." Aunt May smiled.
The table and a nice sense of comfort of instilled.
Thor spoke up, "You'll never believe what happened when Odin caught Loki and I doing karaoke..."
The rest of the dinner was filled with laughter and shared memories from everyone.
Peter learned back in his chair. He was suddenly a lot more happy he was caught singing today.
