I really need to hurry up on my own art XD

Diligence.

That was their name.

And they didn’t have it for nothing.

They spent their life perfecting perfection, starting at childhood. From middle school grades, to over sea’s ‘business meetings’, they took what was handed, put in a 110%, and came out flawless. When their uncle asked them to become the new head of security, they did so without question, and turned it into a force to be reckoned. They had spent years manufacturing every detail of their life around Paradise Lost Corp; perfecting security procedures, and putting in back up plans for backup plans. All for the family business. They were the security and strategist for the family, they kept all the gears running smoothly, ensuring their safety, efficiency, and success. They had damn well earned their position.

So how in the ever loving fuck, did the Smiling Dead, a group of 4 low budget mobsters from the Gaslight District, manage to get past the front gates, let alone steal from their private records vault. Temperance got into a fight with one of them, earning himself a few broken bones and a concussion. One of them had even managed to get into the Estate, and had a short chit chat with Grandmother Agatha.

Diligence had even gained a brand-new scar on their face. (As well as lost their glasses) Maybe they were rusty after all these years of security work…

The failure was mortifying.

Uncle was rather unpleased, suggesting that Diligence needed assistance, or perhaps a different role for a while... Diligence considered themselves lucky that Grandmother convinced him otherwise.

It was still a humiliating blot on their record.

And the humiliation was just getting started.

Diligence wasn’t sure they could recall a time they had made a more moronic choice in their life.

They were not abstinent, at least not for any religious or ‘puritan’ reasons. They simply didn’t encounter a lot of chances for intimacy, nor did they go looking for it. After all, there was work to be done, there was no room for a serious relationship or some stupid fling. They just weren’t the type to fraternize.

The night of their sisters Bridal Shower had been an outlier. They were happy for their sister, they really were. How could they not be? That was their little sister, whom still talked to them despite her leave of the rest of the Virtue family.

They just couldn’t stand Cher’s friends, whom weren’t antagonistic per say, but were very nosy after one drink. (God, such alcohol light weights.)

No, they weren’t married. And no, they weren’t divorced either. And no, they weren’t in any relationships. Nobody could fit with them the way he did.

“Aww, you’ll find the one someday.” “Have you tried a dating app?”

Have they stopped to think that perhaps Diligence was fine with being alone? Even if the silence became so loud sometimes.

They didn’t find the idea of dating or marriage appealing. And they were certain nobody would find them appealing in personality Why would they want any of that? Why would they want awkward dinners, or sharing a living space for long periods at a time? Even if in their soul, their 20-year-old self, screamed out for the same companionship they once had in collage.

The bridal shower ended and their sister left with her friends, all in states between tipsy and full on drunk. (don’t worry, they left in a cab.)

Diligence stayed, offering to pay the bill as part of a wedding present. After doing so, they made their first foolish mistake and decided to stay for another drink.

Admittedly, they hadn’t noticed who they sat next to at first. Which was rather shameful, they prided themselves on always being observant. However, they did immediately know who it was when he spoke.

“Ello.”

The getaway driver of the Smiling Dead.

Of all the people.

Diligence’s second foolish choice was deciding to stay, but they didn’t fancy the idea of fleeing. This was Chainport, this was the territory of the Virtue family. They weren’t going to run away with their tail in-between their legs.

Their third foolish choice was letting themselves be convinced to get into a drinking contest with the bastard.

This led to a following morning full of stress and a particularly bad hangover. They didn’t recall much from the prior night, but there was enough evidence to put together a vague picture.

Unfortunately, the picture painted them to be an absolute moron, whom brought someone home to their penthouse. Bringing anyone back home was incredibly risky, the Virtue family had enemies, whom might take advantage of knowing where they live.

But if Diligence slept with who they thought they slept with…they simply have made an abysmal error in judgment. (even drunk them shouldn’t have been this dumb)

They could check the camera on their keypad or the one in their living room, but…Diligence wasn’t sure they wanted to. They didn’t procrastinate anything, never had, never will.

…Except this one thing.

(Even if that person broke back into their home later to steal back the phone. Frankly, good riddance to the thing. Hopefully, Diligence would never have to think about this situation ever again…)

My characterization of Diligence is likely gonna be so OOC when the show airs more episodes XD
