Pitter. Patter.
Creek remembers. Remembers the loud, repetitive noise that reverberates through the quiet of her dormitory room. Raindrops constantly knocked on her windowpane, her ears twitching at every drop that landed on the delicate glass.
Pitter. Patter.
The tap of the raindrops seemed to follow Creek's movements; twitch, tap, sigh, tap, shiver, tap, groan, tap.
Creek opens her eyes. Dark. It was so dark. She scanned the room, finding turquoise amidst the darkness. Is she watching me this whole time?
Then thunder cackles at the distance. Creek closes her eyes, tries to get a feel of her surroundings again.
She focuses on the sound of the raindrops tapping on her window, on the gust whistling outside, on the thunder cackling from the horizon. She tried so hard to focus. But when another set of fingers interlaced with hers, all she could focus on was the sound of her breaths - heavy, loud, labored.
Pitter. Patter.
