Chapter Text
It was a clear summer day, the sun shining bright overhead, not a cloud in sight. A gentle, warm breeze seemed to blow steadily; bringing with it the scent of the ocean that rested out of sight. A series of low walls seemed to encircle a small garden resting before a traditional Japanese-style home. A woman could be seen with fair white hair and soft features, looking out over a group of children. One had hair just like her but short, another with ivory shaded hair with crimson flecks dancing through long locks, a third solid ivory hair just like the first but slightly spiked, the fourth was a small child with hair of a solid crimson color, and the final one had dual toned hair evenly split between crimson and ivory. The group of five children seemed to be interacting together well, laughing and moving around… well four of them were while the tallest with the spiked hair stood off to the side, bandages covering his arms; glaring over at the group, or more specifically two of the smaller boys.
The Crimson haired child and the dual toned haired one were laughing as they ran around the yard, chasing one another, playing at being heroes. Their laughter and squeals of glee filled the air while the two older ones moved back, joining the woman as she sat on a small bench. The two of them came to simultaneous stops, their eyes going wide as they held out their arms, one had bright celeste flames, dancing and licking at the air while the other seemed to be covered in ice on one side and red flames on the other, the two children stared at each other with equally wide eyes, one heterochromatic of gray and turquoise and the other with turquoise hues only. At the same time, the two children whipped their heads to their mother with shouts of “Look mommy!”
The woman quickly made her way over to her boys, smiling softly at the sight of them so happy in that moment, but it was only moments later when a male with red hair and a flaming beard and mustache made his way out of the house, his eyes focused only on the dualtoned haired child. As their quirks dropped, the man’s hand reached out, grabbing the dual toned haired child by the arm.
“Come Shouto.” Came the male’s aggressive tone, the mother tried to stop him but she was only pushed to the side as the child, who appeared to be only around five, was dragged away.
“Where is daddy taking Sho?” the small red haired child uttered, his voice soft and gentle, sad at seeing his sibling being dragged away.
The mother was quick to react. “Oh zuzu,” the mother began as she made her way over to her child, pulling him into a slight hug, “Your father is just taking Shouto to someplace to talk.” The woman uttered, her voice gentle and steady as she looked down into the features of what could practically be a miniature version of her husband. Her hand gently carded through his hair as she smiled at him.
“How about we see what your quirk can do.” She offered, her voice still soft and gentle, an easy ploy for distraction as she turned her head back towards her son, “Touya, come over here and teach your brother how to draw out his fire.” She uttered, looking towards her eldest with a sharp look.
The white haired male, now identified as Touya, bit back a sneer as he straightened from the wall, making his way over to his mother. “Alright Izuku, follow your big brother.” He uttered, resting his hand on his little brother’s shoulder. ‘At least he can join the rest of the family in being failed experiments.’ Touya thought to himself as he guided his brother away from their mother.
“Okay, so you should already have a feel for your fire.” Touya uttered, his voice filled with barely withheld disdain and pity. He watched as his baby brother nodded, holding his arm out like how Touya was currently showing him, that pale blue fire sprouting up once more. “See that bush in front of you?” He asked, watching Izuku, seeing his nod, he continued, “I want you to force your fire to shoot from your arm and towards the bush.”
Touya would watch as his brother scrunched his features up and he couldn’t help but compare his brother’s appearance to himself from before his hair went white. He even had a similar colored fire, and then his little brother shot out a beam of it. When it hit the bush, instead of it catching fire in those celeste colored flames, it instead seemed to cover the bush in a layer of frost that quickly froze it over. It wasn’t what Touya had been expecting, nor was it what their mother and siblings were expecting either.
They were pulled from their surprise when Izuku looked up towards Touya and asked a question in an excited voice. “Can I be a hero?”
—
It had been two years since that day, Shouto had been burnt by their mother and Touya had begun to heavily consider running off to train again, but every time he thought about doing so, his mind was drawn back to his youngest brother, Izuku. Touya had answered positively two years ago to his brother’s innocent question, said that he could and his brother had immediately asked that he be trained by his big brother because they had fire that looked alike, ignoring the fact that Izuku’s seemed to create ice, frost and snow whereas Touya’s was defective.
Every time that the now nearing fourteen year old male thought about disappearing to train, to prove to his dad that he could be a hero that could surpass All Might and only ever return with more injuries than he left with was the fact that his baby brother was counting on him. It was odd for him to feel like this, especially with how he felt towards Shouto taking up all of their father’s attention and being the reason why their mom was no longer around.
Just then a now seven year old Izuku came running up, with Natsuo and Fuyumi following behind him quickly, their features apologetic. “Sorry, we know that you wanted some alone time.”
“No no it’s…it’s fine.” He would reply, looking at Natsuo and Fuyumi first and then down to little Izuku. “It’s alright, I was thinking of grabbing him anyways.” He gave them a light smile before holding his hand out to the youngest who took it eagerly.
“I did something cool with my powers!” Izuku began speaking, his turquoise eyes bright with excitement. “I was focusing on my fire like you taught me and it went fwoosh and then the tree turned into a popsicle.” The child blabbered on before looking at Touya with the most intense and serious look a seven year old could ever muster. “Can you make me cold soba?”
Touya couldn’t help it, he snorted. It was completely undignified and not at all what the eldest Todoroki should sound like, but his baby brother asking such a simple question as if the world depended on its answer was something that he simply could not handle in a serious manner. “Of-of course, I will make you some cold soba.” He uttered, hearing a soft and excited yay from Izuku, he couldn’t help but chuckle softly, yeah sticking around was well worth it for him if it meant he could have his little flame buddy.
