Chapter Text
“Hurry up, will you?”
If there was one thing Samus Aran knew, the minute she began training, she would have to be the best of the best if she were to fight against the Space Pirates. That, of course, led to the day she met Silas Arle.
Silas was an interesting fellow, in Samus’ eyes. On the thinner side, Silas stood tall, almost passing an inch higher than herself. However, despite the man’s skinnier frame, he packed a punch- Something Samus herself could attest to.
She remembers it like it was yesterday, of course, because it was. To determine the duos for today’s exercise, a field exercise, each student was paired up with a sparring partner. Samus was stuck with Silas, who looked like he was about to keel over at any moment, and while she wasn’t looking FORWARD to sparring with him, she’d at least have some kind of good practice.
Then, he threw the first punch, and Samus swore she could feel it reverberating through every bone.
Regardless of that, it was her and Silas on a ground mission. Their goal, at least according to their training, was to reach an old research checkpoint in an hour. Due to her history with the Chozo, her power suit was different from the regularly issued Federation armor. A sleek red and yellow hue, with green highlights glowing softly in the darkness. Silas, however, didn’t just have a set of usual armor.
Instead of the usual Galactic Federation issued greys and whites, Silas had a set of blue and black armor, with two large shoulder protrusions. The two of them came armed with an arm cannon, with the power beam preloaded.
“Hey, you listening?” Samus was snapped out of her thoughts by Silas, causing her to realize she had come to a complete stop.
“Hm?” Samus hummed, looking up at her partner.
“Caught in your thoughts, again?” Silas adjusted his pauldrons, holding his arm cannon in one hand. “Figures.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Samus asked, catching up with her partner.
“She speaks now, hm?” Silas hummed, blasting at a blue door and opening it. “Didn’t think you knew more than grunts, yells, and ‘SIR YES SIR!’” Silas snickered as he mocked her.
“Just keep going.” Samus walked through the door, keeping her eyes focused ahead of her while Silas sauntered lazily behind.
“Oh, the audacity...” Silas grumbled, following through. “So, what made you join the Federation? The Pirates?”
Samus’ eyes widened, as she whipped around to face Silas. “How do you...”
“Because the Pirates screwed me over too, you’re not that special. I came from a settlement on Cylosis, watched them freeze the planet into a giant block of ice.” Silas nudged Samus with his shoulder. “Though, not that it’s important! We’re gonna be in the Federation!” Silas grinned, before clicking a button on the side of his helmet, making his visor translucent. “Ain’t that cool?”
“Uh huh.” Samus nodded, before walking forward. “Just keep walking, Silas.”
“...Ghgh.” Silas facepalmed the best he could, before walking behind her.
