Summary:

Seeing the Light Dragon only mean good luck, at least for those that believe.

Day Nineteen: New Tradition

Work Text:

One – The Ancient Sages

A cry echoes across the empty lands of Hyrule while a dragon flies high into the sky; completely disappearing into the darkening clouds above. None of the Sages had found the strength to leave the cliff that overlooks the palace…where they had witnessed the last connection to their lost friends leave them behind.

Qia buries her fingers into the dirt; feeling the coolness that’s barely keeping her tethered to the world around her.

The rest of the Sages seem to be in a similar state: Ardi stands the furthest from them with her arms cross and hiding behind her helmet – being the only one to not remove it. The lost of their friends must weigh heavy but losing a brother and her sisters must hurt the worst. Though, Qia wouldn’t know as she doesn’t have any siblings.

Agrasson is pretending to be busy with the small fire that he had put together; poking at the fish that he had brought at some point. He was the one to suggest that they leave as soon as the sun set. However, he would move a muscle despite being the one to suggest it. His heart has always been far to big for his body and his refusal to leave any of them warms Qia’s heart.

Rafica is the only one to change from his sage attire and leaving behind his mask. His feathers are puffed up; no matter how much he tires to smooth them back into place. Anger has always been one of his driving forces until it seems to have disappeared right after losing their last connection. He knows what a last-ditch effort truly means.

“We should return to our homes soon;” Agrasson’s voice cuts through the silence.

None of the Sages move from their places despite the sound of agreements…Even when the sun had set and the sounds of monsters filled the air…They’ll move when the time comes.

Whenever that’ll be.

Two – Divine Beasts Pilots

One last night before they face against the Calamity however even if they win, there’s still the threat from the king that appears hellbent on decommission all Sheikah tech which may be Hyrule downfall. Naboris had only seen how much the Sheikah had worked tireless for nights on end as they work closely with each pilot, along with the Princess of Hyrule and the Chosen Hero. Even now they continue to work despite their work being threatened.

Overhead, the Rito Divine Beast flies slowly around Hyrule Field with the Gerudo, Zora, and Gerudo Divine Beasts are parked close to the lab while their pilots sit on the edge of the Great Pleatu; the Hylian Divine Beasts is the only one among them, curled up in wolf form by Lunar. Naboris had taken a spot next to the cooking pot that Lunar had set up; the Chosen Hero is stirring some kind of stew that refuses to share what it made of, batting away any attempts from Medoh.

Ruta and Rudania are talking quietly about a shared festival happening in a few months. Naboris wonders if he could convince the other Heroines to go to it. The festival has something to do with the shared rain storm between the Domain and Death Mountain (the only rain that the mountain will get for the year). Ruta smiles softly when she spots Naboris looking over at them while Rudania had reach over to ruffle his hair with a bright laugh.

The only one not among them is Zelda, who was forced to attend some meeting with the king, the council, and the leaders. Naboris’ own mother is in that meeting and had only pat him on the head before sending him off with the other pilots. He wonders if his mother is keeping an eye on Zelda or not; knowing how much she cares for the princess.

Suddenly, a roar echoes across Hyrule forcing every pilot to look towards the sky where something peaks through the dark clouds. For just a moment, Naboris swears he sees a face of a dragon peering through; shivering at the feeling of being watched. Then it was gone and the skies go dark once more. No one moves for what felt like forever until Lunar suddenly cries out; shouting about his stew boiling over.

A sight of the Light Dragon – the Fourth mysterious dragon that roam Hyrule’s skies – which is known for bring good luck to those that see it.

Maybe they have a chance to win this.

Three – The Calamity Champions

Daruk’s breath catches in his throat when the blight comes roaring towards him with a rage that shouldn’t be possible. He pulls as much energy as he could into his protection, just as another roar echoes across Hyrule; shaking the ground and causing them both to fall away from one another. When he forces his eyes open, he freezes at the sight of a young Goron standing in front of him with a familiar shield surround them.

“Are you alright?” the Goron ask, glancing over his shoulder with a worry expression which softens for a moment. “It seems that I arrived just in time.”

From there, it takes a few short moments to finish the blight off and learn about their visitors from the future. Yunobo, Sidon, Riju, and Teba; each one excited about being in the past and meeting the Champions but there’s seem to be something unspoken between them. There’s a quiet sadness shared across their saviours from a distant future; one only seen when glanced at the Champions before. Daruk has the feeling he already knows why but doesn’t wish to speak it aloud…just in case it still comes true.

Things had quieted since defeating the blights and they had regrouped at an outpost in Hyrule Field. None of their future friends shied away from spending time with the Champions, Link, Zelda, or any of their other friends; each wanting to spend as much time with them as possible before they have to return. Yunobo have been explaining to him about him having to fight Rudania with Link’s help when a roar startles the group; causing heads to turn towards the sky where a dragon appears before disappearing back into the clouds.

A sign of good luck if Daruk ever saw one…though, he wonders what it means for a dragon like that to fly so low and so visible for the whole of Hyrule to see.

“It seems that our luck is turning in our favour,” Zelda proclaims; taking it as a sign for good. “With the help of our new friends, I’m sure we’ll be able to defeat the Calamity.”

The Champions and their friends had sound off agreement to what Zelda had said but their friends from the future don’t appear as confidant as the rest of them. That’s fine; Daruk will just have to be as confidant for all of them, making sure they know that this will work.

Four – The Future Champions

Rito Village has been busy since the Lucky Clover Gazette had bought out the old stable, which is fine since there haven’t been much use for it in recent years. Teba has been busy with going over the newest batch of paperwork and reports that Hyrule Castle had sent out to each of the leaders. It’s nothing that important.

He glances up just in time when Gale – a descendant of Revali – comes up the pathway to the Flight Range with Midna – a Depth Zonai – following close behind. It’s not surprising to see someone from the Depth Division but he hasn’t had the chance to properly meet the new leader of the Hebra Mountain Mines. Teba jumps down from the hut to greet them.

“You must be Midna: the new leader of the Hebra Mines,” Teba said.

“And you must be Teba, the newest Rito Elder.” Midna takes a moment to look towards the Flight Range; a bit impressed by it. “Nice training grounds you have here.” She notices that Teba doesn’t want to make small talk and moves onto her point. “I gotten a letter from Princess Impa that she wishes to speak to the leaders of the Mines, I figured that coming with an Elder would put me in a better position.”

From what Teba had heard, Midna shouldn’t have became leader until much later in life but with a sudden earthquake had caused a cave collapse where the old leader – Midna’s mentor – had lost their life. She hasn’t yet proven herself to her own people; now she has to face not only the Princess of Hyrule but also the other Depth Leaders…Teba didn’t even let Gale meet the Champions on her own.

“Let me finish up here than we’ll leave for the castle.”

Castle Town haven’t changed much since Teba have been here last but seeing it from the ground is a much different experience. Midna kept to his side like glue, watching the busy streets around them while Gale takes up the other side of her and explaining a few things about the town. In front of them is the famous Floating Castle where the family of Hyrule lives in.

Normally, the Ritos would have flown straight up there but that would mean leaving Midna behind.

“Woah, that’s a lot bigger than I was expecting.” Midna let out a low whistle when her eyes land on the castle. “I know you mentioned the castle before but seeing it in person is a whole other thing.” She looks towards Gale; “did you guys help with designing the bridges leading to the castle.”

Without a hint of hesitation, Gale’s pride ruffles into view due to being able to talk about her ancestor. “Revali was the one to first pose the idea of the rope bridges similar to how they were in the village. However, with the height of the castle, the bridges than have to undergo many redesigns due to winds, weather, and more until they had settled on this.” Gale gestures to bridges which were a mixed of natural resources along with the use of Zonai and Sheikah technology. “The Ritos had worked night and day on this project.”

Which almost amounted for nothing because if you didn’t know than you can never tell.

Impa have been trying to fix it since Zelda’s time but everyone around her have became quite stubborn on the matter for some reason.

“Woah, that’s cool.”

When they entered the castle, Midna was ushered off somewhere which Gale quickly follows due to them being friends since they were kids while Teba was brought to a room where the Champions are hanging out in. Yunobo and Sidon are playing some card game while Riju pretending to read something with Patricia laying on the floor next to her.

Teba takes a seat on the chair while grabbing the latest paper from the Gazette which have been talking about the earthquakes happening across Hyrule. There doesn’t seem talk about those living in the Depths but those living on the Sky Islands have already reach out support to those in need. He’ll take a moment to visit the Hebra Mines when he returns home to see what he could do to help.

Suddenly, the ground starts to shake and Teba quickly pulls Riju out of the way of a bookshelf that went tumbling over. (Despite being in sky, the castle still gets effected by the earthquake but worst than anywhere else in Hyrule). Yunobo brings his protection around them until the shaking stops and the worlds goes quiet…that’s when they heard a dragon’s roar that felt like another earthquake of its own.

Riju pulls away from them and went to the window; calling them over in time to see the Light Dragon flying back into the sky. A sign of good luck but what luck do they need right now? Teba just hope that seeing the dragon doesn’t mean another calamity.

Five – The Future Sages

One last night before they finally take down Ganondorf once and for all. Lookout Landing is buzzing with warriors, merchants, and even the reporters from Lucky Clover Gazette are here. Mikau has been leaning against the railing and watching everyone below until he turns around and almost gets smack in the face by a Mushroom Rice Ball; not his favourite but still pretty good.

Riju, Tulin, and Yunobo were quick to apologized while trying to hide the other rice balls from view. The trio quickly went about handing out the remaining rice balls to the others hanging around the balcony. Riju had went inside where Sheikah are busy working:

Purah has barely notice any food place on the table that she’s working on while Robbie accepts the food and shares half with his son, who’s busy with creating a map of the depths. Jerrin and Symin are busily discussing about the new school year – which have been postpone due to the Calamity and the new wave of monsters.

Tulin had went bounding over to Teba and Gale, who were talking about Rito Village and Medoh. Gale ruffles Tulin’s feathers while Teba gives his thanks to his son, making sure to included the kid when he points out something in their plan which could go wrong. It’s nice to see the children’s voice had heard somewhere. Tulin pulls away from his family to go over to Sidon; already talking about his newest flight lessons that he has to take due to becoming a sage.

Which left Yunobo giving the remaining rice balls to Daruk, Mipha, and Urbosa where they were talking to Princess Impa. The Champions are standing away from all of them which Mikau understands; losing members of their group was hard enough but now having to face a whole second Calamity without them…he can’t imagine.

“Have you heard from the Depth Division yet?” Impa ask; easily sneaking up next to him with her back leaning against the railing to watch their friends in front of her. “I’m worried about starting anything until we know they have their people safe.”

“Not yet but they said we’ll hear something by morning.”

That’s when they hear a familiar roar that echoes across Hyrule, causing everyone to turn towards the sky above the floating castle where the Light Dragon comes through the dark clouds and moves through the towers before disappearing back into the sky once more. The remaining Champions’ faces soften at the sight of the Dragon while the Sages and others watch in amusement at the sight.

“Maybe, we’ll be okay…” Impa said, though not convinced.

“Yeah, hopefully…”

Plus One – Light Dragon

The first thing that Zelda gets to see since closing her eyes is the setting sun; washing the world in soft light. Cold air breathes into her lungs, burning her throat, while warm tears stream down her face. Her hands, rough from the scales that refused to disappear, wipe away what it could but more follow which she couldn’t stop. Forever changed but her one decision should have save everyone from Ganondorf.

Forcing herself to look away, she froze at the sight before her.

A Gerudo with blonde hair and familiar blue eyes staring down at her; the Master Sword is held firmly in his hands. It’s obvious that it has been damaged and repaired due the fixed areas are translucent.

Next to the Gerudo is a Hylian with long blonde hair; her hands are over her mouth and staring at Zelda with disbelief. Their faces appear familiar to one another but she’s unsure on why that is. She didn’t have a moment to process until the Hylian is suddenly hugging her…which is the first hug that she had gotten since being sent into the past and giving up the chance of a mortal life in the hopes of defeating Ganondorf.

“Impa,” the Gerudo’s voice is soft when he speaks but he wasn’t looking towards her…but towards the Hylian holding her gently like Zelda will break if she doesn’t. “I think we should find Purah and tell her what’s going on.” He looks towards Zelda when he said that, which makes sense since Purah and Robbie could tell her about what’s going on.

Impa pulls away and offers a hand for Zelda to take; “yeah, that’s a good idea.”

Zelda takes the hand in the hopes of figuring out what had happened…and maybe if she can figure out a way to fix this.
