Chapter Text
Life was going fucking amazing for Rodrick. He had a killer job, a sick band, and best of all, the freaking girl of his dreams: Regina George. She moved into town after a fiasco at her old school involving some bitch with a vendetta and some rumors getting out about people’s best kept secrets, but if you ask him it was the best thing to ever happen to him. She was pretty, smart, hot as hell, and just Fine overall. He could not ask for anything more perfect. Because even if the rest of his life went downhill or stayed in that weird middle ground where you weren't sad enough to feel like shit but you weren't happy enough to feel whole, he still had Regina (even if she's a brat sometimes).
But after this he may lose her forever.
Rodrick had always had trouble with relationships. Ever since he had a crush on Kathy Hallister and his best friend (at the time), Travis Callings all at once in the 7th grade, he thought something was wrong with him. That he couldn't like both he had to choose one. Gay or straight. Pick a side.
Later he learned it was ok that's just who he was and there were others like who were also bisexuals. His fears shifted from there. Being afraid that no girl or guy would ever like him because he was to gay or too straight. That even though he and a handful of others were okay with it didn't mean the rest of the world was. Then he got a girlfriend and it lit up his entire world. She made him feel normal, like a human being. Not just another straight or gay dude, just him, just Rodrick.
But he can’t lie to her forever. She's the only person he trusts with this. Don’t get him wrong, despite popular belief he does love his family but his dad would get all weird and tip tow around his love life like the plague, his mom could either go super gooey lovey dovey on him or ask all the shitty questions like, “Are you sure?" or, “ But you're dating a girl.” (and he’s not ready to deal with that), Greg would just write about it in his stupid diary and tell his chubby little friend about it, and Manny wasn't the worst choice out of the bunch, he was still little and wouldn't really understand, but it would be nice to get it out. The only problem is his tendency to parrot whatever he hears to his mom and that was not a risk he was willing to take.
So yah Regina was the only option (other than his douche bag friends that can’t keep their mouths shut for shit, and never let him live it down). He also read somewhere you're not supposed to lie to women you're in a relationship with and from most of the stories he’s heard from more or less credible sources, She is not someone you want to cross.
So there he was at 12 o'clock at night finally gaining the courage to tell her about his flexibility when it came to what gender he fancied. The day before had been rough. None of his band mates were able to make it because they all got pink eye from farting on each others pillows or something else idiotic, he got a shitty grade on his math test at school, but that usually doesn't bother him to much as it’s nothing new, but his parents got on his case again, then him and his dad got in a screaming match because of it, and to top it all off he could hear his brother and his stupid fucking friend talking about people being gay and stuff and Rodrick knew they weren't trying to be homophobic but they sure as hell came of that way. But of course he couldn't say shit about it without outing himself or Greg snooping into his personal life (which frankly he could not afford), and with that Rowley kid always creeping around he doesn't know how much that goody two shoes will convey to his crazy ass parents.
Now he’s outside Regina's window waiting for her to answer her fricken phone or at least open the damn window so he can stop weighing the pros and cons of him chickening out on this and resigning himself to a humble life of secrecy before it inevitably blows up in his face one way or another sometime in the near future.
“Fuck Regina answer your damn phone!” he yelled, not worried about her mom as she tries to be “cool” which is short for, "I wont give a shit what you do as long as you like me and maybe give me a hug once in a while.” Not too bad of a set up if you ask Rodrick but he digresses.
He heard heavy footsteps and saw the light from the window turn on before a raging blond clad in a pink night gown slammed the window open and whisper yelled,”What the hell are you doing? It is 12 o'clock at mother fucking night!”
Not gonna lie this is about what he expected to happen when he devised this half baked plan,”I need to talk to you about something. It’s important I swear!”
“Uhg, fine. Get up here, but you better be bleeding out or confessing your secretly gay or I’m dumping your grungy ass out in my neighbors back yard and letting their noisy dogs eat the skin off your bones.” she said walking away from her window as Rodrick climbed up the latter conveniently placed right next to her bedroom window.
She wasn't too far off,“Damn. What a colorful insult from a person whose room looks one jar of glitter away from being classified as a crime scene for a unicorn explosion.” She just scoffed.
“Just hurry the fuck up.”
He was now up in her room sitting on the familiar pink bed sheets that adorned the bed. This isn't the first time he’s been in her room and it sure won't be his last (maybe, if he doesn't blow up the entire relationship with 2 words).
“So what’s up because if you want sex I already told you no,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
“ Wait what? Hell no we talked about this! It’s a different thing,” he defends.
There was silence for a moment before she said, “Well you're here so you might as well spit it out.”
“Okay. I-I, uhhh. Fuck! Okay. why does this have to be so Fucking difficult? Shit.” Rodrick stuttered trying to find the fucking words he practiced oh so hard for on the freaking way over here.
Regina sneered at him, “Spit it out already.”
She always has to be so infuriating, Rodrick thought, but she's hot and means well. She has to mean well. Please mean well, “ God, I’m trying. This isn't easy to admit to.”
“ Are you cheating on me!?” She yells looking for the nearest item to hit him over the head with.
“Oh my- GHAAAA! NO! Will you shut the hell up for a minute?” rage fills him. All he wants to do is tell his girlfriend he is not a fucking heterosexual.
“ Then what is i-”
“I’M BI, OKAY! I’m bi. I just don’t have anyone to talk to about this a-and some girls don’t want a guy who swings both ways, so I j-just thought I’d give you a chance to…” Rodrick looks down at his hands with a hint of shame painting his face. ‘He shouldn't have said anything. He should have kept his mouth shut and waited for her to find out or just dumped her to save her the trouble of having to. He shouldn't have even started dating her in the first pla…’ he was broken out of his spiral with a soft hand tracing the lines on his palms.
She puts her hand on his chin raising his head to be eye level with her’s. Her face was visibly softer than previously giving him a small smile, “Hey. It’s ok. Look at me,” She lays down next to him in bed taking Rodrick down with her as she tucks his head underneath her own and strokes his hair with loving fingers. He loves when she does this.
Taking a deep breath Regina starts,” I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions. I really am trying to get better at this whole being a good girlfriend thing. It was always eat or be eaten at my old school, Probably because of me, but just because I was a bitch in the past doesn't mean I am now. It also means I’m not going to ditch ya because you like girls and boys.”
Rodrick sighs in relief, closing his eyes and leaning further into the warmth she provided. He was so worried about this and how bad her reaction might be that he didn't think about the fact that she was trying to be a better person. A person who’s there for him and him the same for her.
“Besides, it would be mighty hypocritical for me to dump you for being bisexual when I am too.”
Rodrick's eyes flew open, shooting up in Regina’s bed and looking at her with wide bewildered eyes, “wait, really?”
“Yes you big idiot, I’m bi and proud of it because Who could resist all this? So I have to give the people what they want.” She smirked, easing him back down into her bed and covering them with a blanket.
“Yah. You're right about that,” Rodrick said, eye lids slowly drooping and mind going foggy,” I love you so much. Thank you for being the best girlfriend ever.”
Regina just smiled snuggling up closer to Rodrick's back,” I love you too, Rodrick.”
And with that they fell asleep wrapped in each other's arms. With Rodrick feeling safe and the most comfortable he’s been in his own skin now then he has in a long long time.
