Mateo Chavez and Alexandra Chavez (also known as Alex) met when they were 15 and 16 and they started dating at 16 and 17. At 20 and 21 they got married.
Mateo and Alex lived in a small apartment in New York. They both worked full time jobs, and Mateo was newly out of the fire academy.

Mateo was shocked and let out a shocked yelp.

So he decides to give up his instead.
“What why!” Alex said as she saw the happiness disappear off her husbands face.
“It’s. In Texas.” Mateo replied, hesitantly.

“Yeah… I will tell captain strand that I can’t relocate. I can probably find another firehouse that can take me. I won’t let you give up your dream.”
“Now hold on. We can come up with a plan” Alex said eagerly.
Mateo and Alex talked, and decided that Mateo would move to Texas while Alex was finishing her program. Alex had already started researching daycares in Austin and was excited to move. Mateo was also happy that they came up with a plan, but at the same time he was sad. He had to be away from Alex for FIVE MONTHS, and he had no idea on how the hell he was going to survive.
Mateo told Alex his concerns and they made a deal, Mateo was going to FaceTime Alex everyday and after every shift, so she would know he was okay.

It had been a day since Mateo arrived in Austin. Mateo had been saving for years to get Alex her dream house, before Mateo left he caught her looking at a beautiful house. Everyone was gathered in the kitchen, talking. When Owen and Mateo approached, “this is Mateo Chavez, our new probie” Owen said in a firm voice to het everyone’s attention.
Everyone started introducing themselves

Tk replied “Yeah that’s me, how do you know my last name? Did my father say anything”

“Where?” Marjan asked eagerly
“I read a news article around 2 years ago about you”
“How the hell d-you just remember that” Judd said
“I don’t know”
“What was the article about? I wasn’t even aware of any news articles” Tk said
“It was a rescue you did! There was a 7 year old girl hanging off the 22’nd story window, she slipped before anyone got to her and you caught her from the 18th floor window”
“Oh yeah I remember that rescue, I never knew they made an article about it” Tk replied
Everyone continued talking until Mateo’s phone rang.
“Sorry I need to take this” Mateo said before stepping away.
Alex was FaceTiming him, he answered quickly and said “Hey baby, how are you”
“I’m okay, I guess”
“What’s wrong love?” Mateo asked, his big brown eyes full of concern.
“I just miss you” Alex replied her voice breaking a little and a tear falling down her cheek.
“Aw my love I miss you too, we have to stay strong until these ridiculously long months pass”
Alex cleared her throat before saying “so you at the station?”
“Yeah, it’s very nice here, and everything is so cheap! Everyone is so nice too” a small smile appearing on Mateo’s face.
“I can’t wait to come see you my love”
“Me too love” Mateo replied before the bell went off
“I gotta go baby, I’ll call you afterwards, love you” Mateo says while rushing to get his gear on, “love you stay safe” Alex replied before hanging up.

“I didn’t?” Mateo says confused.
The shift is starting soon and everyone was arriving.
Tk joined them in the kitchen “what are you guys talking about”
“Mateo got married” Marjan replied.

“I didn’t just get married relax, we’ve been married for 6 years now”
Judd was walking into the kitchen and only heard a part of Mateo’s scentece.
“Who’s been married for 6 years?” Judd said while Paul and the rest of the crew joined them.
“Me!” Mateo said eagerly

“27 actually, Alex is 26”
“Who’s Alex” Judd said while raising his eyebrow.
“My wife, I talk about her all the time. You guys wanna say hi?”
“She’s on her way here?” Nancy replied
“No I’m on FaceTime! Babe you wanna say hi?”
“Sure!”
“This is Alex my wife everyone!”
“Hiii!” Everyone said in sync
“Wait so if y’all been married for 6 years y’all would have gotten married at like 20”
“Yeah! Got engaged at 19 and 20 and got married at 20 and 21. Also I’m guessing you are Judd?” Alex replied
“Wow that’s true love. How u know I’m Judd?”
“Mateo said u have a proper southern accent”
Mateo’s cheeks flushed as he quickly turned his phone and said to Alex “I told you to not tell him”
“Oh right sorry love”
“It’s okay baby”
“I need to go get ready for my class, call me later after your shift okay?”
“Yes I’m off at midnight, I’ll text u before I call okay?”
“Okay love you bye”
