Race With My Monster

Summary:

There's a lot of speculations on what exactly is a Dreimjin.
And the only thing that Seungmin knows is that they are all wrong. And he's in the right place to say that, he's one.
Dreimjins disappeared a long while ago, and Seungmin is probably the last one of his species. And he can barely use his power. Even less control them.

That's been 3 years he moved in this city, and that every Sunday he goes to the K-Race. An illegal race that is the only distraction he has here. He's hiding from the dreimjins hunters, that, he knows, are still on his traces, even after all those years.
On day, he met Stray Kids, on of the team of racers that participate to the K-Race.

And, after that, everything goes wrong... Or not ??? Well, at least it's interesting now.

Chapter Text

There was two type of people in the world.

Seungmin always knew it.

There was the humans, the most normal one. And there was the dreimjins.

Nobody exactly knew what was a dreimjin. Some people called them demons. Other angel. Some were whispering there were just animals, or myths.

None of that was true. Dreimjins were monsters.

They had power that could destroy or create anything, they were so far more stronger than an average human. They had infinite life, so much that you couldn't kill them. They were so powerful that nobody dared to mess with them, back when they till existed.

At least, that’s what Seungmin’s mom always told him. Honestly, he didn’t feel particularly powerful. Or strong. Or even useful.

He was just some guy who could create barely more than a small charge of electricity. That was it. The only difference between him and the humans was his gods.

And yet. People were always judging. Always watching. Always dangerous. That was how he lost his mother.

The humans killed her.

But Seungmin wasn’t angry. He was sad. And bitter. But not angry. Because even if the human killed his mother, he couldn’t exactly say that he had the best relationship with her.

So, after her death, instead of grieving, he hid.

He hid who he was, what he was. He was surviving of little job here and here, and he was always moving from one place to another, scared that the hunters that killed his mom could come for him after.

And when 5 years passed, and nobody showed up at his house to kill him, he decided to stay in a town.

He found a job as a mecano, in a garage, where he was discretely using his power to fix the machine.

And then, he found the illegal races. It was so cool, so noisy, so… full of life.

Whenever Seungmin had time, he was practically running to the race location. Where there was racers, drinks, and speed. He loved sitting in the stands just next to the circuit, and watch the races. Himself was never racing, never betting, never fixing the machine.

And not because he had no experience. It was just that he didn’t wanted to. He was here to watch. And that was enough.

Because for the first time since his mother died, he felt like he could live freely, without having to hide.

_____*_____

Seungmin stepped into the crowded area, where people were placing their bets on who was going to win the race tonight.

A pink cabin on his left with written on it ‘Black Pink’ was practically hid by how many people there was. Another ones with ‘BTS’ and ‘Twice’ a little further, were as much covered by fans and bettors.

The cabins were a place to bet for the different teams of racers. A lot of team existed, and some were stronger than others.

The most popular was surely the ‘Stray Kids’ team. Seungmin couldn’t even see their cabin with how much people were gathered around it.

The dreimjin walked with difficulty through the many of people here trying to find his friends in the crowd.

“Seungminnie!” He perked up when someone called his name, and smile when he found out who

“We saved you a sit!” Wooyoung exclaimed, with a little too much excitation for Seungmin’s liking.

He gave him a half-smile, and sat next to him and Yeosang, who looked utterly bored.

“What did I miss?” He asked for greeting, addressing a nod to the Yeosang.

“Lisa and Namjoon almost fought.” His friend replied without missing a beat. “I don’t remember what it was about, but Jennie had to intervene, Kehoo’s bike got saboted, we still don’t know by who. And I’m pretty sure Yeonjun and Soobin are dating now.”

“Finally?”

Wooyoung gave him a big smile and immediately changed subject.

“Minnie, Stray Kids are racing tonight!” he exclaimed while clapping and screaming little cries of joy.

“Yeah, I heard.” He responded, flatly, while exchanging an amused glance with Yeosang.

“You don’t understand! Why are you so calm!? Stray Kids! Holy fucking Stray Kids are racing tonight!!! Why are you not screaming and throwing up of excitation!!!???” Wooyoung exclaimed while shaking Seungmin’s shoulders.

“One of us in this state is enough, I think.” Seungmin replied.

“But-!”

“Hey guys, missed me!?” Exclaimed a new boy while sitting in the chair next to Seungmin.

The three friends turned their head at the same time, to see Sunoo’s big smile in front of them.

“Stray Kids are racing tonight!” Wooyoung answered, deciding that Sunoo was a better victim.

Thanks Kërmla. Seungmin thought. And sorry Sunoo.

He slipped out of his chair and whispered to Yeosang who was fondly watching Wooyoung assault the new arrival.

“I’m going to get a drink, want something?” He asked. Yeosang detached his eyes from the scene in front of him, and shook his head.

“No thanks. Be careful.”

Seungmin nodded, knowing full what his friend was implying.

Even if Seungmin had friends, and that most of the racers were clean and just here for the fun, a lot of unfriendly people still existed.

And here even more than anywhere else. Seungmin knew that better than everyone, a guy had tried to kidnap him one time. Not just drugging him a little or stealing his money. Fucking kidnap him.

People here were crazy. Or desperate.

And Seungmin didn’t know which one was worse.

He arrived to the counter, and addressed a smile to Lily, who was on service today since she was not racing.

“How are you?” He asked politely.

“Would have been better in my car.” She replied with a grin. “The usual?”

“Please.” He answered.

She immediately started to work, searching in the mini-fridge to find the bottle of Coke that only Seungmin was drinking. She poured whiskey with it, and gave it to him after having stirred.

“Still not betting, I suppose?” She asked with a smile.

Seungmin shrugged.

“I never bet.” He simply answered.

“I know, Minnie, everyone knows that.” She replied with a laugh. “But Stray Kids are racing tonight! The literal legends!”

She looked so fond that Seungmin couldn’t help but ask.

“You know them?” She send him a surprised look, then nodded.

“Yeah, we talked a few time. Nothing much. But there were so cool!”

Seungmin gave her a faint smile and took a smile of his drink.

Too much whiskey. But he said nothing.

“Really?” He asked, trying to show interest.

“Yes, they-!”

“Lily! Can I have something to drink!? I think I’m going to die soon if I don’t!” A guy interrupted.

The blonde turned toward the sound, and let out a chuckle.

“Speak of the devils.” She laughed.

Seungmin turned too and saw three of the most gorgeous gorgeous men he ever saw walking in his direction.

One, who was probably the one who screamed, had round cheeks, big eyes, and an exaggerated grimace on the face. Next to him a cute guy with freckles and long blond hair was walking, half laughing at the antics of Round Cheeks. The one behind them wasn’t really tall, but he had a dark frown on his face and the biggest muscles Seungmin ever saw.

“Hi Jisung-ssi!” Lily said with a bright smile. “What do you want, an orange juice?”

“Honestly, anything.” Round Cheeks, or rather, Jisung replied, as he collapsed on the counter, overly dramatic.

Not to say that it wasn’t exactly how Seungmin imagined Stray Kids.

Okay, the small one looked scary, but he was also wearing a pink hello kitty belt, with a glittery charm gangling. So, the scary effect was a little wasted.

Seungmin pursed his lips, and turned to leave them, not really wanted to having to deal with an overexcited Wooyoung because he talked to his idols. But he bumped into someone in the progress, and almost let his cup fall.

He muttered a “Sunta Terrea, why me?” and found his balance after a second.

“Sorr-”

“Hi, what’s your name!?” Interrupted the guy in who he had just bumped with a cheerful voice and a big smile.

What the- Oh.

Okay, if the others were gorgeous, this one was simply perfect.

Everything in him exuded with confidence and charisma, his racer jacket half down his shoulders was showing his biceps and Seungmin saw a tattoo on his right arm. His hair were really short, and black, and he had a few adorable moles on his face, which looked unreal. He was so handsome that Seungmin was almost sure he was a hallucination. This guy was attracting all the intention, and he was aware of that.

“Hyunjin, can you please, stop jumping on every cute guy you see?” Jisung asked in an annoying tone behind Seungmin.

The named Hyunjin sent an offended look to him and let out a dramatic gasp. But before he could say anything, Freckles Guy intervene with the deepest voice ever.

“Guys, Chris said to not fight in front of everyone.” He warned.

Seungmin had no idea of who was Chris, but it seemed to having an immediate effect on the two boys who instantly stopped their bickering.

“Here!” Intervened Lily while placing and glass of a suspicious drink who looked even more suspiciously brown in front of Jisung.

But the guy didn’t even bat an eye, and took the glass to finish it in a one shot.

Woah, okay. Seungmin thought, impressed. Lily wasn’t known for her restraint in alcohol, even less while making drinks. This guy clearly had the habits of strong alcohol. Or was completely regretting his decision right now, at choice.

He glanced around again, and noticed that Ryujin and Ahyeon finally deigned to show up to their table. Great, he had to leave, now.

He tried to walk to his friends again, but Hyunjin stopped him again, placing a hand on his shoulder.

“Wait, why don’t you stay with us to watch the first races?” He proposed, a charming smile on his face.

Seungmin wasn’t really used to someone to flirt with him. It only happened one or two time, when he had drank a little too much alcohol and was smiling more than usual, making himself looking approachable. He bowed an eyebrow, and addressed the guy a polite smile, unsure of how to act.

“Sorry, but my friends are waiting for me.” He responded.

The guy frowned, visibly surprised that Seungmin dared to say no.

“Just the first ones. You-”

Seungmin cut him off.

“Beside, my friend is a fan of you guys, if he see me talking with you, he’s gonna slap me of excitation.”

Then he bowed politely his head to Lily and walked to his table, without looking back to see their reaction.

Stray Kids were definitely something.

He couldn’t wait for the race to start.
