Going Bananas

Summary:

Apple buys a banana that Cedar cursed in potions class to get to the bottom of what’s going on between Hopper and Briar…

Work Text:

It was a normal day. A completely normal day. Perhaps it wasn't so normal if they had to keep saying it. Only one person knew it was not completely normal. Apple White strudded through the smoothie bar posted near Ever After High with a grocery bag. She set it down on the small worker table with a huff and stared at the other person in the bar. Daring. He didn't help and instead was too busy staring at his own reflection.

"Need help?" He asked a little too late.

"Nope. Would've been better if you'd told me sooner." Apple said.

"What's all this fruit for?" Daring asked, staring inside the bag.

"Smoothies?"

"No." Apple said.

Of course not. They were in the smoothie bar for god's sake.

"No I mean, you're not opening today. Why do you need fruit now?" Daring asked, confused.

"Well we're gonna make smoothies and maybe play a game.

That was ominous. Whatever did she mean?

Daring stared at a fruit in particular. A yellow juicy banana. It looked enticing despite the fact he hated bananas.

"Ew I hate those things. I always trip over them and it makes me ruin my hair." Daring scoffed.

Apple mumbled something incoherent and picked it up protectively. The way a mother would to her child.

"This isn't just any banana Daring." She grumbled.

"This, is a banana that Cedar cursed on accident in potions class."

"Daring stared at her dumbfounded.

"What?"

"It's a never liar banana. Which means any question we ask it, it cannot lie. It knows things we don't."

"A 'back to the future' banana?"

"What? No! It cannot lie. It's not from the future Daring!" Apple furiously shouted.

"Calm down Apple. And so let me guess. That pineapple was touched by Holly which means it can now grow hair and this strawberry's from 1666?" He questioned, almost playing a game.

"No. All of this is regular fruit. But this is a one of a kind banana." Apple explained once again holding up the banana.

"So are we gonna put it in a smoothie. Might make Cedar laugh." Daring suggested.

"No! It would be tragic if we ate it. The smoothies are just for fun and sort of a cover.."

"We are gonna play a game and the truth must be exposed." She explained.

"What truth?"

"Bropper."

"Huh?"

"Briar and Hopper. Bropper."

"Holly mentioned it to me once that something seems to be going on between those two." Said Apple, all of a sudden holding up a clipboard. With information.

"I mean sometimes I do think so-"

"Wait really? You too?"

"I mean maybe? I swear I once saw them kissing by the pond while we held that New Year's Bash but-"

"THEY WERE KISSING?!"

When Apple almost fainted Daring swore he heard crystal break.

"Calm down Apple I-"

"This banana is our only hope!"

"Are we making smoothies?"

They both turned their heads to find Faybelle with her arms crossed staring at them, she was not impressed and raised her eyebrow. In her arms was not a banana but instead a smoothie blender.

"Faybelle? What are you doing here?" Daring questioned, alarmed to see her. Usually when she was around she meant trouble.

"I like hanging out here dude. And it's not a surprise since everyone always knows I'm here." Faybelle boredly explained.

It was clear she was only here for the smoothies.

"Yeah Daring. Everyone knows Faybelle likes to hang out in the smoothie bar. But Faybelle, what are you doing here?"

"Huh?"

"I mean. Today we're closed." Apple said worriedly, no one could mess up her master plan.

"I know. But the manager is a good friend of mine so he gave me a key to grab a smoothie whenever I want." The fairy explained, holding up a key.

"Oh."

"So are you gonna make smoothies or something...?" Faybelle asked impatiently.

"We certainly are. Um, hey your dorm is close to Cerise's right?" Apple said.

"Yeah. We're next dorm neighbors." Faybelle explained.

"Perfect. Can you ask her to come? I'd do it but.. I clearly have my hands full." Apple gestured to the room, it reeked of fruit.

"Sure. Um, can I join you guys. To begin with, smoothies and.. and also because I have nothing else to do."

Apple's gears were having a little malfunction. She could deal with Daring in case he messed up the plan but another unexpected stranger? It was must have been evident in her face because Faybelle also twisted her face.

"Um sure yeah! Join us Faybelle. And um, please let me use that blender. It's one of the good ones." Apple pleaded.

"Sure." Faybelle handed over the blender and left the empty shop.

"Okay here's the plan." Began Apple as soon as Faybelle left the shop.

"This banana is going to be the best movie we ever watched."

"So now the banana is a movie? Did Cedar actually put in built in bluetooth speakers while she cursed it? Is it a chick flick now?" Daring questioned.

"What? No." Apple shrugged confused.

"This is very confusing Apple pie." He said, cocking his head to the side, his mirror forgotten, deciding this Bropper drama was worth it.

"We are gonna play a little game of "Ask the Banana" with Briar and Hopper.  And I am gonna ask about their secret relationship in front of their faces and pray they stay quiet and the answer will come to me." Apple said a little too overconfident.

"Bropper must be exposed."

"It's not real." Said Daring, taking a bite out of a strawberry.

"But, you said they kissed!" Apple pointed out.

"I was trying to say that they didn't.. I think.. it's complicated." Daring explained.

"Its always complicated. The truth will come out today and it will come." Apple huffed.

~~~
Faybelle strolled through the dorms to get to Cerise's dorm room. She scanned the hallways and almost bumped into none other than Farrah Goodfairy. The primsy good fairy excused herself and laughed a little as she apologized for not looking where she was going.
"Faybelle?" She stared at the other fairy in shock. And weirdly enough she was still smiling.
"Yes it's me. Who else is ice cold blue?" Faybelle shrugged.
"Fair enough." Farrah nodded.
Suddenly Faybelle got an idea in her tiny head. She smirked, thinking of something.
"Hey Farrah. We're sneaking into the smoothie bar to make smoothies. Wanna join?" Faybelle asked.
"Join you?"
"Yeah! Also little ol' Apple White is up to something. Wanna meddle in her secret plans?"
Farrah piped up. That was quite unexpected of the Dark Fairy. She looked skeptical.
"Meddle? Why? Apple's turned around. What would she be up to?" Farrah asked, eyebrow raised.
"She accepted rebels into her life why would she plot something?"
"I don't know. She acted weird when she had some banana. We should check it out." Explained Faybelle recalling it.
"A banana? What for?"
"That's what I wanna figure out."
Farrah thought for a moment and then nodded. She was in.
"Great. Now I just need to ask Cerise if she wants to come."
As Faybelle prepared to leave, Farrah grabbed her arm.
"Wait? Should we ask her if she wants to join?" She asked.
"Nah. Team Fairy until the end." Said Faybelle with a smirk.
"Yeah, you're right." Nodded Farrah.
~~~

"Okay, so how do you know this isn't a scam Apple?" Questioned Daring as the princess held up the banana.

"It's not a scam. Cedar cursed it herself. It has to work. Besides I bought it for 2000 pieces of gold." Apple explained casually.

"WHAT?!" Daring's eyes widened.

"You casually dropped a fortune on this ugly yellow thing? No banana should ever be worth more than.. a dead man's shoes!"

"I already told you. Cedar the Queen of the Truth cursed it! Yelled Apple.

"This is 100 % a scam." Daring said.

"Again, it's cursed to tell the truth!" Apple reminded.

 "It's a scam Apple."

"Then it's test it out." Apple said impatiently and put the banana on this weird board.

The board was made of wood and was sort of an ouija board. It had yes or no on it. The whole thing made Daring's back hairs stand on their own.

"Hey banana? Is my name Apple?'

The banana began to turn between yes or no. It was quite a chilling site. And even more disturbing was how Apple just reamined tapping her foot impatiently as she waited for a result.

It landed on yes.

"See? It works." Apple pointed to the banana.

"Fine. Then let's just go right for the big question." Said Daring.

"Is Bropper real?"

Knock!

"Someone's coming. Hide." Apple said and put a paper bag untop of the banana.

The door opened to reveal Briar. She looked spooked. Like she just saw a random corpse on her way. They acted innocent in front of her. Hiding a corpse of their own.

"Hello?" She said, confused as to why they were there. As if her being there wasn't just as weird.

"Um, the shop is always closed on Sundays." Briar mentioned.

"Eh, I have special access." Apple said smiling.

"So um," Briar nervously shifted her drink.

"What are you guys doing-"

The door opened and in came someone everyone knew. And in came a scene no one would forget.

"Hey friends." Hopper greeted, how confident.

Wait a second...

Multi-hex Theater | Mango Shake

Multi-hex Theater | Black Soda

"Daring ohmygoshtheyhavethesamedrinksandttallywalkedintothedoortogether uh!" Apple gasped.

"Was that even a human language?" Daring gasped.

"Where have you two been? Were you in the multi-hex theater?" Apple nervously said, yet every word was smart.

"No no no!" They shrieked panicked.

Hopper poofed into a frog and Briar almost tripped on her pumps.

"I was at the um.. multi-hex theater! NO! GROCERY STORE!"

Briar should've gone with Hocus Latte. But then again what? The evidence was there.

"I was with fair Hunter." Hopper manipulated.

"I went to the grocery store. They have a fruit stand called Multi-Hex Theater..." Briar poorly lied.

"Hunter took me to see Fair White Maidens." Hopper explained fruitfully.

"Huh interesting." Apple said as she jotted something (this) down on her clipboard.

"What are you writing?" Briar asked.

"I um ee I am doing a chart on what Hunter likes to do with his friends. Adding Multi-Hex theator to the list.." Explained Apple as she turned away and continued writing.

"And what for?" Briar weakly said.

"For.. personal intreast?" Apple looked away.

"No no no!" Briar quietly screamed as she took Hopper to a corner.

"What?" Asked Hopper, no longer as terrified.

Godmother, he was so cute as a frog...

"Apple's suspicious of us." Hissed Briar.

"No she's not. Everyone likes Hunter. He's a cool young man." Said still-frog Hopper.

"I told you to come way later after me." Briar sighed.

"C'mon. She's clueless of us." Chided Hopper.

"I um ee mean's it's the end of the road frog!" She cried.

"What?" Shrieked Hopper.

"It's a thing."

"What thing?"

"An Apple White thing..." Murmured Briar upset.

"What?" Finally she had turned around.

"You said my name?" She said, you're never getting rid of me.

"Right. S- so what sorta smoothies are you making?" Briar asked.

"The best ones ever duh!" Apple said.

"I mean what type of fruit but.. okay." Shrugged Briar.

Apple smiled and took the girl inside the smoothie bar. This time she missed a look Briar worriedly gave Hopper.

~~~
As Farrah and Faybelle made their way to the smoothie bar they whispered among themselves.
"Okay Farrah, so you know the plan?" Asked Faybelle.
"Yes. You'll distract Apple and I'll use my magic to sneak the banana away from her." Farrah said in plan.
"Great."
They finally came to the smoothie bar where Apple was already making smoothies and handing them out. Everyone was cheery, they were happy. Unprepared for chaos.
"This looks great." Said Briar, holding up a strawberry smoothie.
"It's the love I put into it that makes it so amazing." Explained Apple.
"Hey Apple.." Said Faybelle approaching the target.
"Oh Faybelle. Hey where's Cerise?" Apple asked.
"Oh she said she didn't wanna come. Said she had enough drama for the month." Explained Faybelle.
Drama? Like there was any drama going on...
She got closer.
"Hey um Apple, I really want a strawberry smoothie." Said Faybelle worriedly.
"Fay knows what's good." Briar said with a smile.
Unfortunately, Farrah's music made a noise. Hexing took a lot of work. She let a noise secape her mouth, a giggle.
"What was that?" Apple's senses heightened like a wolf.
"I said I really want-"
"I know what you said."
Apple found Farrah working her magic and put a stop to it.
"Daring, help."
Daring approached Farrah and put her hands down.
"Hey, no magic allowed at the smoothie bar." He said.
Farrah sighed defeated. Faybelle rubbed the back of her head annoyed and apologetically. Apple was just too good. Ugh.
"Alright then. Well, now that we all have smoothies? Should we play a game?" Apple asked the group.
Everyone clamoured that no. That didn't sound appealing, that they were tired.
"I'm feeling tired." Said Daring.
Apple mumbled something  again. And Daring was forced to take it as a sign that it was not time to rest.
"I- I mean a game? Woah oh woah, that sounds. So. Much. Fun!" Daring forced out of his throat.
Apple displayed the banana on the board. Everyone widened their eyes at the sight of it.
"What's this?" Asked Farrah, eyes wide.
"Let's just see what's going on." Faybelle told her.
"This is called.. Going Bananas. Cedar Wood edition." Explained Apple on the spot.
"Cedar Wood? What does she have to do with this?" Briar asked, confused.
"Cedar cursed this banana in potions class and now it only tells the truth." Explained Apple.
She was telling the truth. There was nothing to lie about. After all, she had accepted it.
"That's very specific." Noted Hopper behind Briar.
"Let's take turns asking it questions. Briar, you up first." Apple said.
"I don't know what to ask this measel yellow thing." Groaned Briar.
After a glare from Apple Briar finally caved in.
"Fine. Will I ever break free from my destiny?"
Yes
"Huh." Briar said softly as she stared at the yes.
"It never lies. Faybelle your turn."
"Do I love hexing?"
Yes
"Maybe this is legit after all."
"It never lies." Proclaimed Apple a little manic.
"Hopper, your turn." She said.
"Alright then. Um, am I the most charming, dashing and handsomest prince you've ever known?" Hopper asked, confident.
"This should be pretty clear." Hopper grinned.
Briar blushed.
"Please!" Pleaded Hopper on his hands and knees.
No.
Hopper groaned. His hands up in defeat.
"Don't worry Hopper. Obviously it's seen me." Grinned Daring as he checked himself out in his mirror.
Hopper groaned in even more frustration. Only to be comforted by Briar's hand in secret.
Daring was eager since it was now his turn. He was more excited by the dramatic question and grew closer to the banana. But Apple beat him to it. Fake ass Apple White.
"Woah? My turn already? Thinking of a question is so hard..." She trailed on as she glared at Briar and Hopper.
"Apple.." Daring warned with caution. Because if she didn't ask it then he would himself.
"Um, I guess I'll just ask the first thing on my mind." Apple said with a huff.
Okay?
"Hey banana? Is anyone in this room secretly dating?"
Briar and Hopper's eyes widened.
"WHAT?"
"Why would you even ask it that?" Briar stuttered.
"Well surely the answer is no. Even if I asked it for shits and giggles right?" Apple said cheekily.
"RIGHT?"
"Unless. Poison the princess, rescue her, you two are secretly dating!" She said pointing fingers.
"HUH HUH ARE YOU KIDING ME? BLAH!" They said suspiciously at the same time.
"Then there should be no chaos." Apple shrugged.
Turn
Turn
"Huff."
"This Godmother-damn banana better be a scam." Muttered Briar under her breath.
Apple turned to see Faybelle. She stood before the banana, covering it with a plastic bag.
"Um Faybelle? Can you please move." Apple said in her usual fake voice.
"I must know what the banana said!"
"No!"
"No?"
"Apple, I don't know what you're up to, but it ends now." Declared Faybelle.
"No! Faybelle you don't understand!" Said Apple frantic.
"I understand perfectly, that you still don't accept us NOT signing the book!
"Not signing the book? Hopper, she knows." Briar said.
"No she doesn't." Said Hopper.
"That banana is the only one! Cedar cursed it!" Whined Apple.
"Yeah sure! It's probably worth a dead man's shoes! Farrah Catch!" Faybelle threw the banana at Farrah who managed to catch it.
"No no. Please Faybelle I'll tell you about it later. Just give it back..." Pleaded Apple.
"Sure and later never comes around. Farrah, run!" Said Faybelle.
While Farrah had the banana the tv stood to static and then put on a Just Right segment.
"This just in on Just Right. A banana that was cursed by Cedar Wood herself in potions class has been making it's rounds!" Cried out Blondie on the screen.
"And even better, an anonymous buyer bought it! We don't know who this mysterious person is but we do know that they paid a pretty penny for that nanner. 5000,000,000 pieces of gold coins to be exact."
Daring spit out his drink.
"APPLE YOU PAID HOW MUCH?!"
If Daring calls you out on overspending then you know you are in big trouble.
"So? So it was a little tax." Apple awkwardly explained.
Daring groaned.
"S- so it's actually real?' Briar said in shock.
"Briar, we must protect that banana with our lives." Hopper said.
"And deaths. Can you imagine if Apple knew the truth of everything?" She said.
"Scratch the drama and protect the banana." Hopper said in soldier formation.
"Um okay..." Briar shrugged.
"Please Farrah! I'll tell you and Faybelle. Just give me the banana."
"NEVER!" Farrah said, perhaps too confident. She tripped and it landed on Hopper.
"Run." Briar muttered to him.
Apple stood victorious. She put her messy yet perfect hair out of her face and let out a sigh of relief.
"Thanks. I don't know what's wrong with Faybelle and Farrah."
Hopper wouldn't give the banana back.
"Um can I please have the banana back?" She asked way too sweetly.
"Whatever is up with Faybelle is up with me. You're never getting this banana back please!" Said Hopper loudly.
Apple gasped, offended.
"Daring!" She called out.
Daring grabbed the banana, proving to be better than Hopper and ran with it. But Briar took it.
"Why did you let her take it from you?" Apple asked frantic.
Daring stood still.
"Briar! Here!" Said Faybelle with her arms up.
"Um no." Briar said and ran off.
But she ended up tripping and the fruit ended up in Apple's arms.
"Finally!" Apple cried.
"Uh oh." Hopper said.
"Daring, hold back the children." Ordered Apple.
Daring sat on all of them as if they were children. He was quite heavy and they were pulled quite well. They groaned in pain.
"Come on everyone, on the count of three, let's break free!" Said Hopper.
"One, two,"
"Three!"
They groaned in even bigger pain because it was impossible.
"Get off of me you Bookball elephant." Said Briar.
"Guilty as charged." Grinned Daring.
"Now, if everyone has something to say. Confess now or forever hold your pace. But just know, this banana will break your will." Said Apple.
Crickets chirped. Seriously this place hadn't been maintained in a week.
"No one? Fine. Time to confirm this news with the banana." Apple said.
"Seriously? If anyone was in fact secretly dating why do you have to know about it?" Briar groaned.
"Yeah! Haven't you accepted we'll write our own destinies?" Faybelle added.
"No! I have accepted that." Said Apple furiously.
"I just hate shady secrets."
What? Everyone looked at her in confusion. Who in the world did not have shady secrets? They were normal! And what drugs was Apple on? They wanted some.
"Because secretly dating is a shady secret and it's suspicious and I hate suspicious things..Like, don't you have something to confess to the classroom?" Apple said
Simple math,
"Um okay.. but.. why?" Briar asked.
"So, if someone wants to say something. Say it now." Apple said ignoring Briar.
Chirp chirp chirp.
"Oh well, your own executions."
"Wait."
Brave Hopper stepped up to tell Apple.
"I have something to confess."
"Hopper." Hissed Briar.
"What is it?" Apple asked.
"Can you let me out of here first?" Gestured Hopper to Daring.
"Free him." Apple told Daring. Falling for it.
Once free Hopper stood up to Apple. Her gaze was sharp and almost scolding.
"I haven't been honest with you guys." He admitted.
"I've been secretly in love."
"What?" Faybelle and Farrah gagged.
"I knew it." Daring grinned in triumph.
"I now see your point. Shady secrets can be hurtful."
It made Apple's heart sing to see Hopper agreeing with her. She always knew he'd be the first to break.
"I- we haven't wanted to tell anyone because it doesn't have to become such a big deal. It's two unlikely people who like each other. Nothing too special." Hopper said.
"But sometimes things must change."
He looked at Briar.
"Come here."
"Really Hopper?" She said.
"Please, I need support."
She was freed even if she'd rather be trapped.
"I am madly in love with.. that lily pad smoothie you made me."
...
"It was so good I forgot to thank you for it."
"Huh?" Apple's face scrunched.
It was off.
Hopper soon had the banana. And Briar was behind him.
"I got it!"
He dashed and Apple fought to get it back.
Soon they were battling it out, the banana acting like hot potato and being passed through the three.
“Hey Daring, wanna join Team Fairies? I mean, could you imagine if Apple knew the truth of everything?” Faybelle said, gesturing.
Imagine if she found out you were fancying that Cerise girl behind everyone’s backs?
“I-I never really thought of that. Apple!”
He got up, they were free.
“Apple this is getting too crazy!” He said.
Apple was frazzled.
“I know but I have to know the truth!” Said Apple.
“But don’t you think the truth should just remaine unknown siemtimes?” He said.
“But this is IMPORTANT!”
She won.
“Hah!”
NO!”
“Hey banana, are Briar and Hopper dating?”
Suddenly everyone crashed into the board. The made the banana fly out of anyone’s grasp. It landed in….
…Cedar?
“Oh hey a banana? Great I was so hungry.” The girl said.
And she ate it.
“NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!”
Apple gasped, she demanded Cedar give it back. But such a thing was impossible. And nobody wanted it back.
“That was so delicious. I am happy I came.”
And like she came she left.
Daring was on the floor. So much cash cash money cash cash down the hole. That was Cedar herself. His eyes saw stars.
Hopper and Briar were a little relieved.
“Hopper.” Began Briar.
“It’s up to you.” He said, to give her space.
“I just… I just don’t know about it yet…”
“Now we’ll never know!” Apple cried out.
Apple looked at her friends from the corner of her eye. They looked… cute.. in spite of the drama Apple nodded to acknowledge them.
It was just one big shady secret! That was up! Who cares if they get married?
“Okay but we can all agree Bropper is real right?” Farrah whispered to Faybelle, who was tired of all the love drama.
“Of course we can.” Said Faybelle agreeing.
