Martyn looked out over the ocean from the top of the Renchanting, one of the oceans biggest pirate ships. The wind was going through his hair, and not too far in the distance was an island. He could have stayed up there all day, but the captain started yelling at him. With a sigh, he climbed down the ropes.

“Martyn! What were you thinking! You know you’re not allowed up there without permission!”

“Sorry captain.”

The captain rubbed his temples. “Just go help the others get ready to dock.”

“Yes captain.” Before Martyn ran off, the captain grabbed his shoulder.

“Yes?”

“Please just be more careful. I-I can’t lose you too.”

“Yes captain.”

2 hours later, they had finally docked on the island. “Alright crew, listen up. Apparently this island is home to many rare, expensive goods. Things like diamonds, iron, rare coral, and-” the captain stopped for a minute, a big smile forming on his face, “a siren.”

The crew started murmuring amongst themselves. Sirens were incredibly rare creatures that were sold for millions of dollars. Everyone knew the captain was obsessed with getting one. No one knew quite why.

“Now, I’m not sure if that's true. It was a rumor on another island. Nevertheless, we need to be on watch. Is that clear?”

“Yes captain.” The crew all said in unison. Martyn followed the rest of the crew to the island. It had a connection of zip lines all over the top, with different platforms all around. There were two exceptionally tall towers, one was a clocktower on a hill, and the other was a slightly crooked tower with a bow tie on the front. The crew spread out over the market place.

Martyn was just walking around when someone called out to him. “Hey, you sir! The blonde one with the headband!” He turned around and saw two kids sitting behind a table. The one that yelled at him was a 12 year old with a black eye, missing teeth, and white hair with a red headband, and the other was a 13 year old kid covered in scars wearing a teal and orange striped button up.

“Why hello there! My name is Scar, and this is my younger brother Bdubs. We were wondering if you’d be interested in buying any of these rare treasures!” The older one said. Martyn looked at the table and saw it was covered in random pieces of jewelry, rocks, and other various knick knacks.

“Wow, this is quite the selection.”

“Are you from the big ship or the little one?” Bdubs asked.

“The big one.” Martyn responded.

“Wow, that's so cool!”

“So, what's it gonna be?” Scar asked.

“I think I’m gonna pass.”

“Are you sure? This necklace is actually made from the gold of a gapple.”

Martyn recognised Scars tricks. He was pretty sure that the necklace was junk. If he wasn’t also a con man, he would have believed Scar. He decided to try and out con the younger boy.

“Hmmmm, you know what? I have this ancient coin from the Gilded Helianthia.”

“Throw in 50 bucks and you have a deal.”

“But this coin is over 100 years old.”

“Yeah, but can it really compare to gapple gold?” Bdubs watched in awe as they continued to go back and forth. Eventually, the both admitted defeat.

“Not too bad.” Martyn said, looking at Scar with respect.

“Not too bad yourself. No one has ever matched me like that before.”

All of a sudden, Bdubs started yelling to someone. “Scott! Scott! Someone managed to match Scar!”

Martyn turned, and coming over was a boy his age with teal hair and bright blue eyes.

“Really?” Scott asked, eyeing Martyn up and down.

“Yeah, it was amazing!” Bdubs exclaimed.

“So, what’s your name?”

“Martyn”

“How long are you here for?”

“About a week. Maybe 2.”

“What are you here for?”

“What is this, 20 questions?” Martyn was getting pretty annoyed. Scott didn’t respond, instead turning to Scar and Bdubs.

“Cleo needs me and you Scar, and apparently Etho needs Bdubs.”

“Awe man.” Scar quickly put away all his stuff, grabbed his cane, and followed Scott up the hill toward the clocktower.

“Wanna come with me?” Bdubs asked.

“Where?”

“The ties base. My dad needs me for something.”

“What time is it?”

Bdubs took out a clock. “10:30.”

“Yeah sure why not.”
