“But that isn’t…
Chris let an eyebrow go up, his arms crossing his chest.
Time to tell the family how he and Merry actually met came, and his mother reacted as he expected, her eyes blinking as what Chris said took her back. “That’s not what grandfather intended.”
“And what do you think he intended?” Chris asked.
“For you to do it all yourself,” his mother said.
“I disagree,” Chris said.
“You disagree?”
“What he wanted was for us to make many more memories together,” Chris said. “But I knew going into hosting Christmas, I lacked the skills to do the same thing as him. So I hired somebody I knew who could.”
“What if the lawyer found out. I mean…”
“I think grandpa’s lawyer would have said something when I invited him, but he was glad I got Mercy for the job, as she did such a fantastic job at his daughter’s Bat Mitzvah,” Chris said. “And in the process I ended up falling in love. Actually, I think it was almost love at first sight.”
“Really, Chris,” his mother said, still in disbelief.
“Which, I think grandpa wanted me to meet Mercy, though he didn’t realize when he set up the will that it would happen the way it did.” Chris let out a laugh. “Really. Even I know if it wasn’t stipulated in the will, it’s not a facotr, but had hosting it myself and not paying for help been a stiplation, you would have been told and it would have been passed onto me.”
“I figured I wasn’t allowed to know the details,” his mother said, still confused.
