Work Text:

All exorcists were called for the extermination. The date had been moved up and there were talks that Hell planned on fighting back. Every exorcists had to be ready. That included Abel.

Abel had only been to a few exterminations. It made him sick to his stomach and he was never really needed until now. He wasn't sure exactly what was happening, just that another more extreme extermination was happening. One against the princess of Hell no less. Afraid to disappoint his dad, which Abel knew he did every time he didn't go with the other exorcists, Abel joined the front lines. He was going to be brave for once. He was going to make his dad proud.

Adam led the fight at the hotel. He took down some red scrawny sinner and had finally come to face Lucifer. The king of hell was a slippery one, but Adam wasn't letting up. Every insult only fueled his fire and hate. If it wasn't for the damned snake he and Eve would have stayed in the garden. They would have lived in paradise. Their first born sons would have lived in paradise. In peace. Maybe then...

The brief pause lost in horrible memories gave Lucifer the chance to hit him hard. Adam crashed to the ground not far from the front of the hotel entrance. He got up on all fours coughing up blood in his mask. Everything around him was chaos. Angels and demons alike laid dead, but Adam didn't care. All he wanted was to finally kill Lucifer and his bitch of a daughter.

There was a familiar yell to his right. Adam turned to see Abel on the ground trying to back away from a sharp toothed sinner closing in on him. Abel wasn't wearing his mask. The kid hated the thing and probably took it off the moment the fighting started. Which meant Adam had a clear view of the fear in Abel's eyes. Of the blood that dripped down his face from a hairline wound.

Adam suddenly couldn't breathe and the world around him slowed. His heart froze in his chest. He heard Eve screaming and crying their son's name. He felt the dead weight of Abel's body in his arms.

Adam moved. He slashed through the sinner with his guitar, cleaving them in half in the greatest force he had ever mustered.

"D-Dad?" Abel called out. He started to stand, gasping with pain as he put pressure on an injured ankle. Adam still wasn't looking at him and guilt washed over Abel's entire being. He hung his head. "S-Sorry," Abel couldn't help but say. He picked up his weapon. "I'll get the next one! I promis-"

"No." Adam cut him off.

"What? Dad, I can still fight! I can st-"

"No!" Adam cut him off even louder. His voice made Abel jump. It didn't sound like his father, only the hash voice of the leader of heaven's armies. "You are to fall back to heaven now."

"But-" Abel's mind was racing. His dad was sending him back!? "I'm not just going to leave you! I wanna help! I can still fight!"

Adam finally turned to him. "Are you fucking stupid or something!? I said fall back! We don't need a fucking coward like you in this fight! So get your ass back to heaven. Now!" The 'now' was yelled so loud the whole battlefield must have heard it. Abel felt tears rolling down his cheeks. Yet, Adam didn't waver, staring down at him. Abel sniffed back as many of the tears as possible and flew away.

Adam lingered, his breathing heavy. He balled his hands into tight fists to stop them from shaking.

"You shouldn't speak to your kids like that!" Charlie suddenly appeared and punched Adam across the face with such a force it sent him spiraling back a few feet away. Adam cursed loudly, choking for a moment from all the dust and rumble uplifted by the punch.

Charlie approached him, fist ready for another punch. Meeting Emily had changed her opinions on angels and hearing Adam's words to his own son spawned a new rage inside her. She knew Adam was horrible to sinners, but to his own family as well!? How heartless could one person be!?

She waited for the dust to settle ready to kick Adam's ass again. This man had killed her people, allowed Vaggie to be hurt, and belittled his own son. Her mercy was reaching its limit. Charlie took a step forward feeling her horns growing.

She stopped.

Adam, the biggest asshole Charlie had ever meant, had tears laced in his eyes. His mask had fractured apart and Charlie could clearly see the pain in his golden eyes. A pain that wasn't from any injury.

The anger she felt slipped away. She reached out a hand in sympathy, thinking of her own father. How he had been protecting her in all the wrong ways.

Before she could say anything, Adam charged at her, yelling out in raw emotion and swinging his weapon. Lucifer appeared attacking him before he could land a hit. The two continued to clash and battle raged on. Charlie took a deep breath, looked up to heaven, then back to where her father was fighting with Adam. She spared one more thought about Abel and what she saw, then joined the battle once more.

Notes:

Take a shot everytime Adam cut someone off. I also had no idea how to end this fic hope it was okay.
