Chapter Text
The disgusting smell of dirt and filth the smell you've grown accustomed to it. Y/n you've lived your life like a rat trying desperately to survive in a world of predators. You were determined to cling on to anything not to die by starving on a daily basis. The one room apartment for you and your family the walls paint scrapping off the walls water from a small hole in the roof dripping down into a bucket it was in one of the alleyways to enter.
Poverty has always gripped on to you like a leech your whole life no matter how you try to escape it, it has been the bane of your existence since the moment you came into being why was it like this? Why did you have to suffer because you were poor? Is this all there was to you and your pathetic life?
Your mother was a very sickly woman with an illness it's a miracle she was able to give birth to you and your three younger sisters. You were the first to come into the world then your other three younger sisters. You honestly thought to yourself why bring in more children into a world like this where surviving is like trying to clean the floor with a toothbrush? However as the children grew you don't know how it happened you started to care for them all perhaps it was just natural instinct.
While your father he was an alcoholic and gambler yet surprisingly he was actually a very nice man who loved your mother dearly the issue however was your mother. Her sickness was a great distress to all of you while your father tried to find work he was one of those who sucked at doing almost anything. Though he still kept trying but this caused him to always be out trying to make even a bit of money for medicine for your mother. And when he was there he was usually drunk and wouldn't be so nice if you got on his nerves at this time bruises, wounds, black eyes and slap marks are what you get.
Currently you were 9 years old outside you were going into the forest hopping to find some herbs or anything you could sell to make any sort of money the grass prickled and poked at your feet your shoes had broken the other day so you had to be shoeless, there were trees everywhere along with the surrounding foliage the tree's leaves serving as a canopy to cover you from the raging sun's hot rays.
As you ventured deeper the trees and greenery lessened as you reached a large clearing, before you stood an outstanding sight of various colored flowers lilies, daisies, violets, roses, forget me not's and more dancing in place against the breeze the sun shining down on the flower field the flowers basking in it's presence. You quickly entered the field and started picking up the flowers bending down each time to pick up and try not to spoil any flowers and place them into your basket as the sun heat hovered over you. But you couldn't think of that right now this was a huge discovery you could sell these and get money out of it enough to buy bread for you and your younger sisters to the very least.
By the time you filled your basket to the brim with flowers you were drenched in sweat and your legs were sore from bending down so much. You don't know how long you've been there but it was sunset the sun was almost out of view, you didn't have time to rest you had younger sisters to feed at home two of them barely even three years old. You ran back to the town careful not to drop or damage any flowers on your way but quick enough before any of the people retired for the night and the weird people appeared.
You were able to get there at the nick of time when the people just got out their jobs and started selling the flowers. You ran down the street trying to sell as much as possible despite looking like a really dirty child you were getting a good amount of money already in fact it might be enough to get three loaves of bread and even some new shoes by this rate just a bit more and-
Suddenly some man bumped into you making you stumble and fall on to the rough pavement and you drop the money you had gained leaping on to the pavement with several TING sounds and the basket which rolled with the flowers inside some flowers escaping it's containment making a trail as it rolled on to the road and a car ran over it the basket getting squished ruining all the flowers.
The man looked down at you with his piercing eyes and said "Damn, bitch. Watch where your going. Tsk." Before he just put his hands in his pockets and walked off as if he didn't just run into you and made you lose your flowers.
You were frozen your heart sunk you had just lost your flowers you spent hours bending down and picking up in the sizzling heat and he just walked away without apologizing for ruining your flowers and didn't even feel any guilt or remorse what so ever.
But as you were doing so a few boys came along and started taking your money you gained through your hard work and then ran you prompted and quickly got up and started chasing after them. "Hey that's my money come back!"
You chased them down for as long as you could down the street to try to get your money back but they were faster then you and while chasing them you tripped over a loose pavement brick. Making you fall face first on to the pavement with a THUD as you looked up the thieves got smaller the further they got from you and the further your sadness progressed you felt like crying.
You'd just lost the money for your food for the day for you and your family what would you do now? You couldn't go home empty handed your younger sisters were so young they needed to be fed properly to not starve. You eventually got up and started just aimlessly walking as if something might fall from the sky and help you.
When you heard it. "Apples! Buy some fresh apples!" You turned your gaze to a small open street stand a woman trying to sell her apples. You made your way over to her stand and looked at the apples. You looked at the apples they looked delicious.
The woman stared at you and smiled gently and asked. "Do you want to buy some apples young girl?"
You asked. "How much are they?" As you picked up an apple and looked at it's redness it was shiny enough to see some of your reflection in it you could tell it was high quality fresh apples.
The woman responded. "$1 per apple."
You couldn't afford it not like you had anything now anyways, "No I'm not buying." You put the apple back. The woman nodded before suddenly some of the boys came over and tried to steal the apples and the woman turned her attention to the boys trying to fend the boys off her stand.
You didn't want to resort to this but what other choice did you have? While the woman was busy you quickly snatched a bunch of apples stuffed them in your pockets and ran for it, it was a moment like this you were thankful for your oversized clothes with their pockets. You ran as fast as you could, your breath heaved out of you, you felt bad but you had people to feed you weren't going to disappoint them with nothing to eat.
As you went down the alleyway until there was a door in view and you opened it and entered your family's home a dirty place that looked like it hasn't been cleaned in years, but really it always looked like that even if you tried to clean it anyways not that you'd be able to fully clean it to begin with it would always get stained there.
