Work Text:

For weeks now all you felt was a subtle ache in your stomach and your inability to keep any solid food down. You felt nauseous and part of your body ached unexpectedly. Crocodile was concerned as he noticed how much paler your complexion had been and made sure to tell the cook to make more high iron and easy to digest foods, hoping that would easy whatever was wrong with you. And as much as the effort was appreciated, that didn't seem to ease your stomach.

You had also noticed that your monthly bleeding hadn't started either and that you were, in fact, very late. Butterflies filled your stomach at the realization of why you could be sick. As reasonable as it sounded, you and Crocodile had been so careful...except for that...one time.

"Shit." You groaned, making your way to the bathroom in your master bedroom.

Thankfully, you had a box, tucked away for times just like this. You crouched down and grabbed the box from underneath the sink. You shakily took out the pregnancy test and knew it was now or never. Crocodile was in a meeting at the moment, so now really was a perfect time, so you could have a moment for yourself.

———

Positive. The test was positive; you were pregnant with your husband's baby, your first baby. So many emotions were swirling in your mind as you looked at those two very prominent lines. You were pregnant, you were going to be a mother, and you finally knew why you had been feeling so sick all these weeks. But with all that relief, you still needed a way to tell your husband, the father of your child.

After a little while, you decided to take another test, knowing that your husband would definitely need more than one test to be convinced. You had been married to this man for years and yet telling him good new such as this made you feel incredibly nervous. You had no idea whether he would be happy or not, considering he is generally against the idea of children, considering the life the two of you live. Although, you remember the times Crocodile would randomly come up with baby names, saying how strong the names sounded and after he said them, he would go straight back to the previous conversation, as though it never happened at all. Or how when the two of you would go on walks together and how he would actually smile at the children playing in the streets.

You smiled at those memories, knowing that you were most likely the only person who got to see him like that. Crocodile had always been so sweet to you, despite his naturally gruff nature, and now you hoped the baby would see that Crocodile too.

Looking at the clock, you took notice that it was the usual time that your husband stopped his work for the day. Quickly shoving the now clean tests in a small bag, you made your way to his office at the end of the long hallway. Your pace was fast, and your excitement and nerves mixing. You knocked on his door awaiting his reply.

"Come in." His gruff voice called out from behind the door.

"It's me!" You called out, opening the big wooden door leading to his office.

"I'm nearly done my love; I was a bit behind today." Crocodile spoke, looking up from his work to look at you.

"No worries!" You said, taking a seat on one of the two plush chairs in front of his desk.

"Is everything alright?" He asked, eyes not looking up from his papers.

"I-" You started, feeling the anxiety of the situation, but without further hesitation. "I'm pregnant!" You blurted out, cringing at your own hastiness.

Crocodile's head shot up so fast, you were surprised the man didn't get whiplash. He stared at you like a deer in headlights. His mouth opened and closed as though he wanted to speak, but for once, had nothing to say about the matter. Without speaking yourself, you placed the two pregnancy tests onto an empty part of his desk, blue lines clearly visible. He carefully picked both of them up with his ring covered hand and examined them as though he were deciphering some ancient relic. You noticed his chest puffing in and out slowly, clearly taking deep breaths.

"I took those this morning." You informed him. "I guess we weren't as careful as we thought we were." You joked, trying to calm your own nerves down.

"You're pregnant." Crocodile spoke slowly, finally looking at you, eyes shining with something you couldn't quite piece together.

"Yes, it would appear so. It also explains why I have been feeling so sick recently." You commented, absentmindedly stroking your belly.

"I'm going to be a father. "Crocodile whispered as a small smile appeared.

"Y-yes. Is that okay with you?" You questioned, smiling a little yourself.

"How could it not be?" He asked, looking slightly puzzled now.

"Our lives are complicated and dangerous; I guess I just thought that you might've been against the idea." You replied honestly.

To your surprise, Crocodile stood from his chair, so big it could've been a throne, and walked around to the front of his desk. His mighty height dwarfed you as you craned your neck to look at him. Thankfully, the pain didn't last long enough to become a problem as he knelt beside you. Your eyes widened at the sight, his body now only slightly taller than yours. Gingerly he placed his massive hand on your cheek and stroked it so softly, it made your heart swell.

"You are pregnant with our child, my love. No matter what happens in this life, I will protect this child. Just as I have always protected you." Crocodile proclaimed, making the tears you didn't know you had spill down your face. He wiped them for you, making your smile widen. "You have made me very happy." Crocodile added, kissing your damp cheek.

"Thank goodness." You cried out. "For some reason, I thought you might not have wanted this." You spoke, nuzzling into the warmth of his palm.

"I only want this if it's you I'm doing it with. No one else is worthy enough or holds my affections." Your husband replied. "Though, I suppose now those affections will be spread a little to our child." He chuckled, feeling grateful.

"No one else is worthy nor has my affections quite like you do too." You spoke. Crocodile smiled at this before speaking one more.

"You seem tired my darling, care to join me as I finish up work?" He questioned.

"Naturally." You smiled, reaching your arms up.

Crocodile then carefully picked you up from the chair and carried you to his own. As he sat, he positioned you so in a way he knew was comfortable for you. You then snuggled into him as he continued his work, thankful to have such a caring husband and soon to be father.
