Work Text:
Sitting in his studio with dim lighting and soft mellow music playing, Hyunjin was working on his final gallery paintings. It was of a silky white cat lying on a wooden floor under a window with sunbeams streaming down onto its fur.
Unbeknownst to the people who will see this painting, the cat was Hyunjin's boyfriend Felix. Now it does sound crazy when said out loud but Felix was secretly a cat hybrid in this magical world. In this world, hybrids, part-animal and part-human beings, were once more common. However, over time their numbers lessened due to mysterious circumstances and magical changes in the environment. Many believe that a great magical storm that occurred centuries ago altered the fabric of their existence, causing fewer hybrids to be born.
As such, they retreated into hiding, fearing human persecution due to their dwindling presence. The most common hybrids were black, orange, and grey cats, but Felix was a rare hybrid, being the last of his kind. He was an all-white cat with deep blue eyes and a light dusting of freckles. Remarkable truly.
Speaking of Felix, Hyunjin needed to go check on him because he hasn’t seen him since this morning. He sent a shimmery gleam of light out his hand to softly place his brush back into the cup on his art easel. Hyunjin stretched his arms out and fluttered his wings a bit as he got up, putting a little bounce into his step. He exited his studio to make his way to the connected living room-kitchen where Felix’s favorite sun spot was. As he was about to smother his beloved boyfriend in affection, he noticed that no cat or human was in sight.
“That’s odd, normally at this time of day Felix is here..” Hyunjin thought as he made his way towards the kitchen. It was lunch so he decided to prepare food for Felix when he wakes up.
He padded his way to the kitchen humming a song but right as he was about to cross over the counter he heard a faint snoring sound. Felix asleep in the kitchen, but where? Hyunjin stopped humming to listen to the sound and where it was coming from. He walked across the kitchen all the way to the air fryer and guess who was sleeping soundly on top of it, his pearly white cat of a boyfriend.
Hyunjin just chuckled and went up to him. The tips of his fingers glowed as he started to scratch the top of his fur in an attempt to wake him up and so it did. Felix’s head rose up and he looked at Hyunjin. He was now sitting on the air fryer with his little paws in front of his back legs ‘so adorable’ Hyunjin thought. He smiled fondly and moved his hand from the top of Felix’s head to behind his ear, scratching it ever so softly. A long streak of gold followed behind, Emitting warmth to Felix’s cat-shaped body. Low purrs escaped out of his throat that made Hyunjin’s hand vibrating a little.
“What are you doing on the air fryer lixie? I swear you can be so adventurous sometimes.” He said continuing to pet him. Felix meowed and jumped down to the counter then to the floor. He meowed again while looking at Hyunjin, encouraging him to come and sit on the floor. Hyunjin got down with no hesitation.
Now settled on the floor criss-crossed, Felix walked up to him and crawled into his lap. He lyed down on his side so he could get more cozy. Hyunjin’s heart melted at the sight of his pretty kitty being all comfy. “Baby you know I have to get back to my gallery pieces.” He said while stroking Felix’s fur. Felix just looked up at him and meowed lightly, as if saying he doesn’t want to get up. Hyunjin couldn’t even be annoyed at his reply but what he did do was lay back on the floor completely sprawled out in defeat. He made sure not to hurt his wings when he layed down since they can be very sensitive. Felix took him lying down as an opportunity to crawl onto his stomach and shift to his human form. A shimmering light spread across Hyunjin’s stomach as Felix shifted, sudden weight being applied on Hyunjin.
He looked up at Felix who was now on top of him, staring down at his face.
“Hi Felix.” Hyunjin flashed a small smile.
“Hi.” Felix returned.
He sat up from off the floor and let Felix fall back down into his lap. Felix nuzzled his head into Hyunjin’s neck and layed his arms around the back of it. Hyunjin ever so gently wrapped one arm around his waist and the other to entangle itself into the soft white streaks of hair on top of Felix’s head. The soft glow of the afternoon sunlight fell on the two, wrapping a warm blanket over them. It felt so cozy in their apartment that Felix just wanted to stay there forever and never leave.
Hyunjin could feel him about to fall back asleep. “Kitty, before you fall back asleep do you want me to but you in bed and I’ll come when I’m finished in the studio?”
A little whine came out of Felix’s mouth as he replied, “Noo, I wanna stay with you.”
Hyunjin chuckled as he placed a kiss on the crown of his head. “I don’t know if I could take you into my studio lixie, I have a big painting that I’m working on and it’s a secret. I can’t show it to anybody, even you sadly.” Hyunjin said. Felix looked up at him with his shiny blue eyes and pouted a little. “I promise I won’t look I’m just tired and you feel nice.” Felix said holding onto him a little tighter.
Hyunjin couldn’t deny him with that face so he just gave up. “Okay, as long as you don’t look you can sleep in my studio baby.” Felix nodded and gave him a quick kiss onto the cheek. Hyunjin placed his hands on the underside of his thighs to hoist him up and carry him to the studio. Felix kept his legs dangling from the sides of him and quickly fell asleep on the way to Hyunjin’s studio.
Once they entered, Hyunjin settled him down onto a small couch beside his easel that used to be filled with unfinished paintings. Before he could even go get a blanket to cover Felix with he felt his hand being tugged on,
“Don’t go.” Felix mumbled.
Hyunjin could cry from how sad and adorable he was. Felix had attachment issues and needed to be by someone he trusted almost all the time. He’s been trying to work through it but it gets harder when he’s at his most vulnerable. Hyunjin crouched down in front of him and looked lovingly into his eyes. “I’m gonna be right back lixie, I just want to get you a blanket so you don’t get cold okay?” His hand went up to lightly scratch behind his ears, emitting a purr from Felix’s lips. “Don’t worry Felix, i’m not leaving you.”
Those words settled something deep inside of Felix. He always knew that Hyunjin wasn’t going to leave him behind but hearing it from his mouth made it even more clear. Hyunjin smiled at him and left from out of the room to grab the blanket. Felix just layed there, relaxed and hearing the now light rain coming down.
Two minutes later Hyunjin came back to Felix with his favorite baby blue blanket with white stars over it. He warmed it up with his magic and floated it down onto Felix’s body. Hyunjin let out a large sigh and got back to his painting, turning off some lights and only keeping on a few lamps. He picked up the brush and dipped it on the palette filled with various light colors. Ever so often he looked down at his pretty boyfriend just sleeping peacefully on his couch lightly snoring, chest rising and falling.
Half an hour or so later Hyunjin finished up the painting and cleaned up his area. He picked Felix up off of the couch and carried him to their bedroom. He layed Felix down on the soft sheets and tucked him in, shortly following in after changing into pajamas. Felix wrapped his tail around Hyunjin’s waist and put his leg on top of his. They soon fell asleep soundly, cuddling each other till they wake up.
