Chapter 1: Amy Rose [Classic]

Chapter Text

Amy was always a big fan of fortune telling.

There was just something that was so interesting about being able to ‘see’ one’s own future in her mind. Using cards and various items to predict the future. A fine line between prediction and intuition Amy had come to learn over time.

To use fortune cards to perform divinations? It was a passion she had, reading the cards, making predictions on what the future may hold.

Yet in this case? Amy was confused.

Her last prediction wasn’t all that hard to read. She had predicted she would meet her knight in shining armor. She certainly did.

The hedgehog giggled to herself, she certainly knew that meeting Sonic. The fastest thing alive. Meeting Sonic was what the cards had to have meant. The cards told her she would meet someone special. Special enough to be held close to Amy’s heart.

The day Amy met Sonic? She had predicted that she would find the love of her life. That was the first time, Amy had ever met Sonic. How could she not fall in love? Sonic was just, simple, way past cool.

The cards held no other details outside of that however.

To be more precise? Amy was getting the exact same cards. The same prediction. Multiple times. Repeatedly. She tried to shuffle the deck. Again and again, only to be met with the same results.

Amy kept drawing the same cards that told Amy she would meet Sonic. The love of her life.

“I already met Sonic though!” Amy whined as she again drew the same cards. The same prediction as always.

Amy for once was growing frustrated in regards to fortune telling. She had been getting the same cards over and over again. With each time Amy was growing more confused.

“What could the cards mean?” Amy asked out loud. Hoping for an answer. With a dramatic sigh, Amy would set the cards back into her pocket, then pick up her (overly huge) hammer again. Amy decides she would try again later, once she was somewhere that wasn’t just a random forest.

Amy was not a stranger to travelling. She had been doing so for a while at this point. How long was a while? Amy was not sure, but the young girl was more than a capable traveller at this point.

Though even Amy had to admit, the inhabitants of West Side Island were…. Strange.

Nobody was causing her any trouble, but it was far more tense around the entire island. Amy liked to believe she was a nice girl. Amy was polite, yet it was as if the inhabitants despised Amy’s very existence. With everyone here, merely ignoring her at every turn even when Amy did something as simple as ask for directions.

Amy was more than able to handle herself, the hammer was not merely for show after all. The entire ordeal still unnerved Amy. Mostly though, Amy was just confused.

Gathering her thoughts? Amy would reach back towards her sandwich that she had left out while she was reading her cards.

Only for Amy’s hand to tap along the tree trunk she originally set the sandwich on. Amy blinked in confusion.

“Huh? Where’d my sandwich go?” Amy asked aloud.

Looking around for a moment, Amy was confused. Did a Flicky steal her lunch? Amy was about to curse herself for making such an easy enough mistake..

Then she heard it.

A small whine.

Amy’s ears twitched. That didn’t sound like an ordinary animal. That sounded like a mobian? From the sounds of the whining? They sounded to be really young.

Amy, of course, couldn’t resist the sound. If someone was in trouble? Amy naturally felt inclined to help. It was just in Amy’s nature.

The sounds grew louder and louder as Amy followed the noise. Then she hurried as she heard another loud, sharp noise. Amy realized whoever she heard had likely fallen down and was in need of help.

Hurrying towards the source of the noise, Amy would push aside the various branches and bushes. The light from between the trees splashing across Amy’s face. Temporarily blinding the hedgehog for a moment, making Amy pause as she looked around the small clearing.

When she recovered..

“What…?” Amy gaped under her breath, with the young girl looking over at what was clearly a fox. Amy’s hand went up to cover her mouth at what she was seeing.

A small fox that was no doubt younger than Amy. The yellow kit was clearly dirty. He was wearing torn up shoes, socks and gloves that hadn’t been cleaned in days. The kit’s fur was covered in multiple bruises, cuts and mud.

The saddest sight was how ravenously the kit was tearing into the sandwich. Like the young child hadn’t eaten properly in days.

Almost as if the kit was abandoned.

Snap!

Amy felt her heart stop as she unwittingly stepped onto a twig.

Immediately the fox snapped to attention. With the poor child looking at Amy with a mixture of fear and confusion. The kit had clearly been through so much.

Far too much for a child to go through.

Neither of the two said anything, outside of the kit growling at Amy as if the kit could be a threat. Amy knew right away the child was scared of her, despite never having met Amy before.

“Hey..” Amy kicked herself mentally for the lame introduction. “It’s alright. I’m not going to hurt you.” Amy spoke as she stelled out from the bushes.

Getting an idea. Amy would take her hammer and gently set it down onto the ground. Amy took a moment to steel herself as she lifted herself back up to face the fox.

“I’m not going to hurt you.” Amy attempted to soothe the fox. This was way beyond what Amy was used too, the hedgehog girl trying her best to look non threatening.

Amy knew she was way in over her head. That would not deter Amy though with helping the young fox. The fox was still growling at Amy. Instinctively, defensively. Much to Amy’s dismay.

“Were you hungry..?” Amy hoped that wasn’t the case.

When asked the question, the kit started to calm down. Almost as if the young fox was able to sense the gentleness behind Amy’s prodding.

“I-I’m sorry…I hadn’t eaten in days…” Amy’s heart broke at the answer. Especially when the kits stomach started to growl, tears were welling up in the kits eyes.

“You poor kid..” Amy cooed with a maternal hint to her voice. Amy took the chance to step closer, slowly, not wanting to scare the kit. “It’s alright, I can eat something later!” Amy soothed the fox’s worries cheerfully.
The kit started to smile.

Then Amy saw it. Saw them.

“Woah!” Amy exclaimed with stars in her eyes, her earlier worries momentarily gone. “You have two tails?!” Amy squealed at the amazing sight, the two tails were starting to flicker about with agitation behind the kit.

“Y-You don’t think they’re….freaky?” The kit asked with tears in his eyes. Amy tilted her head at the young kit for a moment.

Amy had to suppress the urge to go down to the nearby village and bash some heads with her hammer for putting this poor child through so much.

Instead Amy answered. “Of course not, they’re so cool, I never seen someone with multiple tails before~” Amy cooed as the young fox blushed.

Then instantly, Amy had an idea that Amy couldn’t help but blurt out.

“Why don’t you come with me?” Amy asked cheerfully smiling widely. The kit blinked at Amy’s sudden offer.

“You don’t mind I’m a freak?” The boy asked weakly.

‘I mind the jerks that decided to bully a child and have have the mind to flatten them with my hammer-’

Amy smiled at the young kit. “I don’t mind the extra tail, it’s really cool.” Amy gave a sly grin. “Plus it helps you look so adorable~” Amy teased the kit who was blushing more. The fox covered himself up with his tails as Amy teased the fox.

“So what’s your name anyways?” Amy asked.

“It’s Miles.” Miles introduced himself… then looked at his tails. “Everyone just calls me ‘Tails’ though.” Miles grumbled at his nickname.

Amy didn’t notice the grumbling though. “I think Tails suits you!~” Amy admitted earning Tails attention. “I think it’s really easy to remember, it’s a really nice name~” Amy complimented as Tails felt his face turn a little red.

“W-What’s your name ms…?” Tails trailed off as Amy smiled. Tails started to get closer to Amy, step by step.

“Me?” Amy whimsically answered. “I’m Amy Rose, Sonic’s girlfriend!” Amy answered cheerfully for Tails who blinked at Amy.

“Who’s Sonic?” Tails asked as Amy gasped, Tails cringed at the gasp worried he might have offended Amy.

“Whose Sonic?!” Amy gasped out, then her face shifted into a mischievous smile. “Oh that does it, you are so coming with me mister!” Amy stated as she suddenly picked up Tails, scooping up the smaller fox.

Tails let out a surprised yelp as he was lifted up, now realizing just how strong the girl really was.

“W-where are we going..?!” Tails asked Amy in a panic as Amy started to walk off. Nonchalantly carrying both Tails and  her prized Piko-Piko Hammer with casual ease.

“First? You are going to eat something, then I’m giving you a bath!” Amy told Tails who huffed at that last bit.

Before Tails could protest? Amy continued. “Then you are going to be meeting Sonic, he’s going to love you!” Amy cooed as Tails started to wiggle in half-hearted protest.

Amy looked down at him and saw the kid smiling. It warmed Amy’s heart to know that she was going to help this kid. Amy’s mind was made up, she was going to take Tails far away from West Side Island.

Though Amy couldn’t help but wonder if Sonic would slow down to spend time with Tails. The idea of the blue blur helping raise this little fox was a very pleasant thought.

If he didn’t? Amy could always introduce Sonic to her hammer.
