Chapter Text
Ellie stood back, teary-eyed and smiling, admiring that last tree ornament. A simple, yet treasured, ceramic triceratops next to a colorful tree.
From Alan on their first Christmas.
After three years of silence, she had expected that to change with news of her divorce last year.
But nothing.
"Mommy!"
Seven-year-old Anna burst into the room, bouncing with joy.
"Alan's here!"
Ellie's eyes widened, her breath hitching. Anna grabbed her hand, pulling her into the kitchen.
Alan was knelt on one knee, hugging Charlie.
He stood up, smiling that crooked smile.
"Hey," he whispered.
Ellie's heart exploded with happiness and hope.
